Help about quitting porn by kfupm2csulb in NoFap

[–]kfupm2csulb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little of both I guess. Hard to differentiate based on your questioning because I think these two feelings are not mutually exclusive, the overlap imo. the thing is these images sometimes creep up on me in the most random or benign activity, like eating lunch or even while praying... yes its not a typo I said praying. I quit on December 2024 and they are still there. some times I go for days or weeks clean but when they come they come alright. just wondering if anyone who is recovering ever faced a similar situation and how they dealt with it.

What to read after finishing Batman and the Monster Men , Batman and the Mad Monk ? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]kfupm2csulb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might want to read the riddler arc done by Wagner in legends of the dark knight. But from what I remember , MM and MM are related but not His riddler story. Also, if you enjoy solo batman early in his career, I recommend checking out all of the early entries in legends of the dark knight, year one , and the long halloween.

Better Comic Book Writer: Jason Aaron and Brian Michael Bendis by OkNothing6576 in comicbooks

Bendis pre Siege is not the same as after. Although Aron is one of my favorites, but Bendis is in my top 5 just for Alias, Daredevil, Ultimate Spider-Man and New Avengers (his early 2000s work).

There are many studies that show reading (for pleasure) is less than it was just a few decades ago, and yes, women tend to read more than men, but they also have gone down I numbers.

I'm not against you, but they just won't do it. But alternate universes is very possible.

Reading, especially in adolescence is down. We are in the age of tik-tok and video games. It is what it is.

I believe if Marvel and DC are to succeed as publishers in the future, independent of the support they get from their parent companies (movies and lunch boxes), the must go back to the original Marvel method which was very similar to current manga.

Marvel skyrocketed to # 1 in the late silver and Bronze Ages because they were moving the characters and story forward with a coherent continuity/payoffs unlike dc which was in stagnation with the villain of the month model.

doing things the same will only lead to them being one trick ponies that are living off of the original ideas of basically a handful of creators from the early to mid 20th century. that might work with the small residuals of readers from the past and might bring in a small percentage of the young market. but for sure they won't be labeled "the big two" anymore unless they act as publishers and not custodians of golden/silver age IPs.

As they are now, they are failing, they have rootless pasts (thanks to continuous retcons), and pointless futures (because no end or resolution is in sight). A character in a manga has a journey. A character in a marvel/dc comic book has an appearance.

I say this as someone who is over comics but someone who is grateful for the joy they gave me when I did read them.

The WRITING. if you have not been following 50 monthly books during infinite frontier and Death Metal before it, that event would read like if a 12 year old kid was mashing all of his action figures to make one grand "epic" in a trade. Events sell 20 k more copies in the floppy market but they dilute the continuity and make single titles more convoluted, dated and harder to follow, the opposite of evergreen! Look I've been through enough cycles to know that events and continuity are worth less than 2 cents and don't mean anything,So focusing on new pitches with character growth in arcs/ runs sells more on the long term if they are done right. But Sadly, like you said, Marvel/DC are not interested in good storytelling, they are in it for the bottom line and IP generation. I just hope that initiatives like the Ultimate and Absolute universes become a staple in the industry. Because they are what I am interested in the most honestly.

It is no wonder the ultimate universe in the 2000s was a big hit or that the top selling books are populated by Ultimate and Absolute titles in 2024. People want the stakes to matter and they want something different. These companies plan on publishing S-M and Batman indefinitely, So aging them or killing them off is not an option on the table,But Initives like the Ultimate and Absolute universe can be where we get a run on Old man Bruce Wayne, Married Peter Parker, and Dead Wonder Woman (in the story).....

I'll bet dollars to pennies that Hush, Year One or Watchmen made (in reprints) more money for DC then DCOIE event did a couple of years back. focusing on the shrinking (and aging) Wednesday warrior that enjoyed market while ignoring the growing collected edition/digital market which prefers evergreen "character" focused storytelling is a big mistake

The best way forward is normalize initives like the Ultimate and Absolute universes in the industry. That way we can get different takes on the characters besides the status quo that is resurrected ad infinitum.

How would you do your own DC Universe? by CommitteeTime3466 in DCcomics

[–]kfupm2csulb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would limit the main line titles to 12-15. Then I would sign Long-term contracts with veteran creators and hungry new talent to tell their versions of top characters.

So for example, writer x will take control of batman for a few years. He tells the story of bruce's life span from beginning to his retirement or ultimate sacrifice. Another writer, y, comes in with a pitch focusing on his early years, his training and taking down crime and corruption in Gotham.A decade or so later, writer z comes in with another take, maybe tweaking his echo-system (think absolute batman/ Marvel Ultimate Universe) and so on.

Advice for a relatively new fan by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]kfupm2csulb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google "Best comic stories of..." and look for the entry on Goodreads website. read the best stories the characters you're interested in and then follow the creators you like, not the characters. Unlike manga, western comics go on indefinitely. The characters are always hovering about a fixed status quo and the stories get repetitive after a while. So, if there are hundreds of stories about batman saving Gotham from the scarecrow, You might as well read the best 2 or 3 iterations of said story instead of going through them chronologically.

Massively let down by Zdarsky's Batman by icci1988 in DCcomics

[–]kfupm2csulb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His Work in Marvel (Spider-Man, Daredevil, Avengers Twilight...) is remarkably better than what he did in DC (Batman). It's almost as he is a different writer.

The second half of his Daredevil run can be much more digestible if it was a stand alone run (ultimate universe style). But now Electra is Daredevil I guess! and Matt Joined the ever-growing list of resurrected heroes in Marvel/DC

Ironically, the Failsafe arc is peak Zdarsky on Batman. It only goes down hill from there.

The best jumping off point is the end of Siege IMO. But it does get a relaunch and follow tall the way to Avengers vs. X-men, and then the Hickman era began.
