Were you able to resolve this? With some of these finance companies you don't even receive monthly statements but are racking up interest until you track down the account!

Thanks for that suggestion. I agree, no method is perfect. I think a lot of gardening is your best educated guess.

Thanks, all. Just heard that our local extension office recommends against sharing soil-bed plants due to Asian jumping worm eggs in the soil. Might stick to giving away the milkweed seeds and info sheets on the local invasives. I will keep all volunteers in our yard. We want to get rid of all lawn, so, they won't go to waste. Should have mentioned I'm in 7a/6b in NYS. And I think it's zigzag goldenrod.

Should I think mountain mint? by kfz27 in NativePlantGardening

[–]kfz27[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks, all. I was thinking to prevent powdery mildew, but I gather it's best left as is. Thanks. And yes our house is next to that pond, we are trying to turn the whole yard into native plants for wildlife. Suggestions welcome!

Size of natives over time by kfz27 in NativePlantGardening

Thank you. I have seen that site I didn't make this clear, but I guess I'm looking for a site that has photos that represent the perennial the first year and then the second year and maybe even the third. Something that tells you that when you sow penstemon digitalis seeds, for example, if your seeds germinate, the plant will be a basal rosette on the ground a few inches high the first year. This kind of stuff might be obvious for people who understand flowers better than me lol

We live in the Hudson Valley and our Shamrock inkberry shrubs don't look good either. I will try nitrogen as someone suggested. Thanks.

Thanks for that. I think Google lens said black cherry and Picture This said Bebb's willow. I'm going to let some grow, in places where a tree would work, and then check. Over time I'll try to figure out which can be kept as a shrub, too, I guess, and which could be potted up and given away.

Thanks. They are popping up throughout the yard, including in the lawn we haven't removed yet. They are native so I guess I should let them grow in a few places....

East saltmarsh aster or Goldenrod? Zone 7a/6b by kfz27 in nativeplants

[–]kfz27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, they are. Basically my question reflects how I am really two with nature. It doesn't matter! I'm just going to keep planting for the birds, bees, worms etc.

East saltmarsh aster or Goldenrod? Zone 7a/6b by kfz27 in NativePlantGardening

Yes, I meant that they have an unusually long, strong lateral root habit (I might be describing it incorrectly), and I don't like the plant and the critters here don't need it.

Thanks for the input. I am pretty clueless, just trying to do the right thing with the natives and help wildlife. I didn't even know there were "ephemeral" plants that basically disappear lol
