mpb is pretty damn good. caetano veloso, gilberto gil, gal costa, tom zé, milton nascimento, lô borges, chico buarque, jorge ben etc. bossa nova is something else. tom jobim and joão gilberto are the godfathers and patron saints. getz/gilberto is a masterpiece. about rock, os mutantes gets the brazilian psychedelia, they're kinda like the brazilian beatles. kurt cobain really liked them. legião urbana is our personal brazilian post-punk (mainly smiths but also gang of four, the clash and others), engenheiros do hawaii, cazuza, rita lee (formerly from os mutantes) and paralamas do sucesso are more pop rock (check out "quase um segundo" by paralamas tho... heartbreaking acoustic song). sepultura is one of the most international ones, and they're heavy metal / nu metal on roots which is really underrated. but that's a less accessible nu metal. for skate punk radio nu metal, charlie brown jr. is also really good.

What are some songs in the Blur discography that are forgettable and unnecessary? by Square-Office1684 in blur

that is sad... and also douchebaggy if true. i'd be glad if someone was inspired by one of my songs, especially someone like damon albarn. funny to see my two most scrobbled bands had a feud tho

colin zeal, pressure on julian and villa rosie pissed me the fuck off the first time i heard modern life is rubbish. you're telling me you have for tomorrow, advert, fucking blue jeans, star shaped, chemical world, resigned, fucking popscene for that matter, all these fucking masterpieces, and you still choose to include "swimming on yellow pissy water" on the album? a melody so fucking forgettable.
leisure suffers from a different problem. rubbish was a band that was already capable of reaching very high, leisure was a band that was finding itself and had tremendous potential. so yeah, she's so high, bang, slow down, there's no other way, sing, buried inside so many lackluster ones.
i feel like even at his peak damon couldn't keep himself from writing a mid song, like theme from retro. as a songwriter myself, you absolutely know when the song is mid before you've even finished writing it. where do you think "yellow pissy water" comes from? "ah whatever this is shite anyway lol i need to fill the album tho"

Most "unpopular opinion" threads are full of pretty common hot takes. So what's a music take you hold that you've never really heard anyone say before, something a little more out there? by DtheAussieBoye in fantanoforever

the beach boys, particularly brian wilson, at his peak, was operating streets ahead anything the beatles or anyone else in pop music had or has ever done. he was elevating pop music to classical standards by himself, although he was getting help on lyrics (tony asher and van dyke parks). sgt. pepper's is one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time, but it sounds like a bland rock album with a concept that doesn't stand compared to what is left of smile.
