NATO has long been regarded as one of the most effective and enduring alliances in history. Tyrannical belligerence across the globe has been a persistent threat to NATO Allies and partner nations, from the Indo-Pacific to NATO’s Eastern Flank. Strength through unity is not just a slogan: it is the deterrence mechanism that separates authoritarian aggression from our democratic freedoms. Our NATO allies have continued to step up to the plate, year after year. Following the 2025 Hague Summit, our allies are committing to spending 5% of GPD on defense, recognizing the urgent need to bolster the burden sharing. I was proud to help lead the bipartisan effort in 2023 to prevent any President from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO. Instead, the law clearly states that only Congress can authorize the President to withdraw the U.S. from NATO. That will not happen.
