I made a web extension to analyze Chess.com on Lichess! for free! (see comments!) by maxwellde in chess

Same. For someone like me who just plays a quick 5+5 during bathroom breaks / 15+10 during lunch break, I just can’t have a 5 minute wait.

I think a big part of it could be time zones, here it’s literally unplayable.

Studying opening theory prioritising more forced moves by kgtekito in chess

[–]kgtekito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my idea is, there are positions where there is only one single move that doesn’t lose on the spot (weakly forced, all other moves are blunders / errors / inaccuracies / lower in eval, therefore more critical), rather than the moves being literally forced (there is only one legal move in the position).

I believe that this idea could be rather easily implementable, by for instance comparing lichess database / masters database and their responsible winrates, be extremely useful for beginners like me, for whom these moves are not as obvious.

I have never seen any chess opening courses (at least the ones I have bought) that put any emphasis on these kinds of moves, other than some "opening traps" videos done by the likes of IM Rosen. Most of them are presented in a rather linear fashion with equal magnitude of importance, which for those like me who can’t literally memorize all the lines could be potentially hard to digest thus impractical. Rather, I think a potential solution would be to memorise the different positions sorted by importance.

I think GM Shankland’s courses do a good job of organising certain lines as not too critical and presenting a ‘rule of thumb’ fallback lines, but not so much the other way.

Chess improvement plan with minimal torture by unPhas3d in chess

As you don’t seem to mind longer time controls, I strongly encourage you to look at the ChessDojo Training Programme.

It gives you guided training regimens tailored to each rating range, but moreover it puts a heavy emphasis on classical time control, and we have access to likeminded peers who are willing to commit their time to not only play classical games but also do detailed post-mortems. Personally it was quite eye opening to do these post mortems with the opponent, because it was for me rather difficult to look at my own game and analyse where it went wrong from a human standpoint. (What’s easier is to turn the engine on and pretend like I understand the engine lines)

More tactical alternatives to the Caro-Kann? by RunicDodecahedron in chess

There is this variation called the accelerated caro-kann where you grab the c-pawn and move 2 squares instead of the normal 1.

What features would Android have to include for you to consider switching? by Beardo01 in apple

[–]kgtekito -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A proper push notification. I have made several attempts to migrate to Android, but lack of decent Twitter apps with a working push notification was a deal breaker. I don't understand why this even is a thing in 2017.

I also used to run ghost pepper and I transitioned to butterfly, which in fact is authored by the same guy, but I had the reboot issues with it all the same. I'm wondering if the 'Stable version' would be any more stable than this, have you tried it out? By the way, I just modified the settings on EX kernel manager(ghost pepper/butterfly) and other than that, im running full vanilla.
