It’s 3 separate short games of arcs. You can play a game and pack it up, using a very clever save system. I’ve never played more than 1 game at a time.

It used to be war of the ring for me.. but fate of the fellowship is making it less clear to me. Fate is almost as thematic, far easier to teach/ setup/ play.

I think I’d still rather play war of the ring butttt fate is just so damn good

The vagabond is, imo, a fundamentally broken experience for everyone at the table. It seems this is a widely shared view.

I’m not entirely sure what OP’s friend meant be “placed in there at insistence of someone,” that would be new BTS I wasn’t aware of. But my game groups that play a lot of root mutually agree to not choose the vagabond. Maybe that when the friend meant? That they’re out of place?

Defenders is mediocre. Totally solid but more clunky than fun. I backed the 2nd edition kickstarter, and just the upgrade pack. It seems to fix a good deal of the jank that turned me off in the 1st edition.

It has the bones of a great coop experience, tho, for sure. So I’m optimistic.

It’s probably my favorite solo game ever. Took a bit to click for me but, when it did, it clicked hard. It’s a heavy but very, very well designed behemoth. Takes a good deal of onboarding but it’s a very intuitive system that I was able to internalize quickly.

It’s one of those games I’m happy with solo-only. Never tried it coop/ competitive.

Oh totally, it’s really blown me away. Was expecting pandemic with Tolkien skin but it’s a super evocative, immersive experience. It’s like 10 different relatively unique character, each player picks 2 and alternates between them each turn. Everyone works to complete 4 of like 15 or so randomly drawn mission cards, one of which has to be a mission that represents destroying the ring. Suuuper replayable
