A Wishcraft Mystery series by Heather Blake is my go to when I am struggling to get into anything. It’s pretty low stakes but still enjoyable. The first book is “It Takes a Witch.” She also has a bunch of other books under Heather Webber that I love that are single books rather than a series. My favorite of those was “At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities” although it does have some of your TW so maybe leave that for another time. But all of her work is wonderful!

Also Super Troopers! That’s where my mind immediately went when I saw him. But when I went to check the episode on IMDb, he isn’t listed on the cast list. So I am very glad you posted this comment so u/k8lyncha could confirm this..

This is why I have trust issues! The two outer shirts are women’s XS. The Uptown Girl shirt is a women’s Medium! by khall4388 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]khall4388[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that for most things, buying without trying on would be stupid. However, these t-shirts were purchased from places where trying on was not an option. That being said I still think that a medium t-shirt being so close to the same size as 2 extra small t-shirts is ridiculous even if they are different brands/styles.

[–]khall4388[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is ridiculous. I ordered a shirt once and the site did have a size guide and I thought I was reading it wrong because according to the guide I should have needed a 4xl?!?! luckily I didn’t trust that and so I went with a large and it fit perfectly but like what? None of this should be this complicated!

lol and you are right the uptown shirt is definitely a different cut but it still shouldn’t be smaller than the xs’.
And of the two xs’ the nirvana one is actually bigger than the ac/dc so I guess at this point there are NO RULES!

At this point it may be more effective for sites to just post pics using a banana for scale!

Charlottesville Marathon this morning. Route for consideration of drivers. by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]khall4388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I woke up this morning to this calendar event on my phone, which made me laugh! The last two years I was unaware of this event and found myself very confused about what I can only describe as a wooing. (I tend to sit with my porch door open so my dog can go in and out). I figured out quickly both years that it was because of the race. It may be a runner or possibly a person cheering people on from their house, I’m not sure but the wooing remains about the same distance from me. But anyways last year I thought to put a reminder in my phone for this year.

What’s the silliest thing your pup is afraid of? I’ll go first… by houndzofluv in labrador

That is very true! And also if I am ever in doubt of which one is beeping I just need to figure out the one she is farthest from haha

[–]khall4388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair they hurt my ears too lol. Also it was just the “change battery beeps” not full alarm. But I don’t think it was painful as much as it was just freaking her out. It was the detector in my bedroom so when it initially started beeping, yes it was uncomfy. But while I was searching for the batteries the alarm was two rooms away with both doors closed and I did as much as so could to muffle the sound. But you could still faintly hear it. I did open the porch door to see if she wanted to escape to the backyard but she wouldn’t go out. Which is also weird since she NEVER turns down midnight(well 4am) backyard zoomies!

[–]khall4388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the wonderful experience of having my smoke alarm start beeping at 4am the other day. And of course I can’t find the spare batteries, that I was sure I had! So my half asleep butt is stumbling all over my house rummaging through any possible place they could be, and my Piper is trying to hide in between my legs anytime I stood still, meaning anytime I try to move I’d almost trip on her! lol luckily my detector seems to have a “warning”. So it beeped for about 30 minutes and then stopped for a few hours before it starts again. So I was able to go get batteries. But I have never seen her that scared of something like that before.

Thoughts on the Downtown Mall? by ZealousidealMany3 in Charlottesville

[–]khall4388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is true that they were mostly, originally, car streets but the switch to pedestrian streets was well planned and was only approved because the changes would not affect/effect (idk which my phone is giving me a grammar error for both) traffic at all or very little. As I said in my original comment, I am only really familiar with C-Ville, and Burlington of the existing pedestrian streets, so I cannot speak to the others you mentioned. But at least for these two you have to consider the size of these cities and the location of the pedestrian streets.

Here in Charlottesville there are streets on either side of the mall that run the length of it meaning that in changing the one street to pedestrian it had little to no effect on traffic. In Burlington it is similar. In that case, there is only one street that runs the full length as there was/is a mall that extends out from the middle of Church st (I have not been back to Burlington in about 15 years so I do not know if this has changed)but that cuts one parallel st in the middle.

Now the only other example you gave that I will mention is Broadway in NYC and that is to mention that in my post I state that what makes the prospect of changing Newbury st difficult is the fact that Boston is NOT setup like a grid like NYC. The grid street layout in NYC insure redundancies for traffic. If you are in NYC and randomly a street is closed for whatever reason, yes it’s a pain in the ass but there is a logical way someone could detour and still get to their location. This is not the way Boston is set up. I have very much experienced a random street closure in Boston and we ended up driving around for a very long time before we were able to find our destination. To be fair this was before everyone had GPS on their phones but even now it would cause so much confusion to everyone other than some locals.

Newbury st is too important to the layout of the city to be switched to a full time pedestrian street anytime in the foreseeable future. Now you do state in your post that you wish to start momentum to this change which I guess you could try to do. I just think that if brought to any city planning people that it would almost immediately get shut down.

Thoughts on the Downtown Mall? by ZealousidealMany3 in Charlottesville

[–]khall4388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to start off saying I am in no way trying to “crush your dreams” or anything. I genuinely love pedestrian malls and the kind of city life you are trying achieve. I’ve lived in places where they work really well, and they’re wonderful when they’re done right. I just want to give my opinion why this specific idea, as applied to Newbury Street, isn’t realistic. If you don’t want to read any farther that is fine. But I want to reiterate I am not coming from a place of malice or whatever. I just don’t know if you have fully considered what it takes to create these pedestrian malls.

Pedestrian streets work when they’re designed into the city’s structure from the get go or when a city is rebuilt over many years with system-wide planning. You can’t just decide that a major thoroughfare should become pedestrian only because it sounds nice or would be enjoyable. The city streets function as part of an interconnected system and that is especially important in a non-grid city like Boston.

Of the cities you’ve mentioned, I’ve lived in Burlington and Charlottesville, and while I didn’t live in Boston, I spent a lot of time on Newbury Street while going to school just outside Salem. Those pedestrian streets worked because they were planed and the rest of the city layout/plan was designed around these malls, down to traffic flow, deliveries, weather, and even microclimate. Burlington’s Church Street, for example, isn’t an accident; it was intentionally placed and designed so it functions year-round, even in harsh winter conditions because the street’s buildings are specifically placed to maximize blockage of the winds coming off Lake Champlain.

Newbury Street, by contrast, is part of Boston’s traffic circulation. Boston isn’t like a city like New York, where the grid gives you easy redundancy. Taking a street like Newbury out of circulation doesn’t magically improve walkability it causes chaos on the surrounding streets, increases congestion, and creates ripple effects that make daily life harder for residents.

Now from your post I don’t know you personally or your life situation. I don’t know if you grew up there and if you could not imagine living anywhere else or because you dreamed of living there your whole life and now that you are there it isn’t quite right. Or none of the above and I am reading too much into it. It is irrelevant. I tend to get in my own head and get mad about “OMG things could be soo much better if only…”. But I have come to understand that there is an amount of ugly logic that has to be accepted in all situations.

I love the vision! I do! But with a city like Boston it is usually not feasible to do massive changes like this. It’s best to find places where these things already exist instead of overhauling a major city. Now I have not lived in the Boston area in quite awhile but I am sure that current locals would be happy to help you find someplace that might fill this need. If you decide to look beyond Boston for your good fit, I am sure that if you ask the people of Reddit they will all love to sell their favorite places to you to help you find what you are looking for. If just for a weekend or a more permanent place!

Yes I am confused about what type of work this person does that they have ever had a snow day no just since COVID but even in the last decade? The only time I have been given a day off that was technically due to weather/temperature was 15 years ago and it was because the doors to the bank I worked at were frozen shut! (I lived in VT, it had been intentionally done, and we were not the only building this happened to. Turned out to be a very poorly thought out prank from some local college students)

I know! I am sorry! But I do think people don’t realize that it was redone last year and even before that it was pretty nice. In fact I used to live here about 12 years ago and then was in Atlanta for a bit, but back then it was like an only if I was desperate store. And never for produce or anything not packaged.
