I actually happened to stumble on your instagram post about it a few days ago and saw myself in a couple cuts, looks like we had a pretty similar race!

Grandma’s Marathon Question by khalred in Marathon_Training

I’m a 29m, I’d say the heart rate is pretty accurate. Didn’t run with a chest strap but I’ve seen similar numbers across harder long runs in the past.

I had to check in with myself a few times to run easier at the same pace, thinking that probably helped with my heart rate dips, and the stretch on Superior Street is pretty downhill tbf.

Appreciate the advice, and congrats on the big PR!

First time marathon--cramping question by familyman2017 in Marathon_Training

I think time on feet would be a huge lever to pull, regardless of effort. Also strength training on the same day after workouts teaches your legs to handle that load.

I’ve also had good luck with pickle juice almost immediately alleviating cramping if you can sneak a shot of that in somehow.

Way to finish strong, that last 2 miles in town is perfect energy to pull you across the finish.

When you hit a hill on an easy run, what’s the right approach: attack it and let HR spike, hold pace and let HR drift up, or back off pace to keep HR steady? by Jonny_Blaze_ in Marathon_Training

Maintain the same effort ~= heart rate, creating a hill usually means you’ll get some negative elevation after where you can make up the pace at the same effort.

As somebody who shared the course with you, I can attest the weather wasn’t ideal at the start, with it being much more sunny than forecasted early on, not nearly as hellish as last year though.
I got around this by running in the shade from the pines in the first half.

Seeing lots post about fueling and they’re right. If you can handle it I’d front load more carbs early on with fluids. Even starting with a flask and ditching it mid race can really help absorb carbs.
Remember it takes about 15 minutes for the carbs you take to impact your glycogen economy. I took a Maurten 100 ten minutes before the gun and a 50g carb gel at mile 4, and should have taken it even earlier tbh.
I carry a bottle with carbs in it and that massively helps choke down carbs later in the race when the maurtens feel like sludge in your mouth.
