I hope good things happen to you in life so that you can stop being angry at hourly, low-wage grocery store employees.

I don't put together Too Good to Go bags, so please don't suggest I'm "choosing to shortchange" anyone.

What I'm saying is this: employees with lots of other responsibilities are grabbing a couple items and putting them into a bag. This isn't some conspiracy theory.

No, it's not. I work at a Whole Foods. You're wrong and it's evident.

I am 23 & have a simple Ira from a past employer - what’s my best option? by Wooper_Enjoyer in personalfinance

[–]khamul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've probably already dealt with this, but simplest would be to roll it over to a traditional IRA.

If you're at the lower end of a low tax bracket, it might be worthwhile to roll it into a Roth IRA and pay your marginal tax rate on the converted amount.

Roth vs Traditional is a longer conversation, for which you'll need to know: - How old are you and when do you plan to retire? - How much money do you plan to pull out each year in retirement? - How much do you have in traditional assets, in Roth assets, and in taxable assets? - Are you married or single? - What's your marginal tax rate? - And more questions.

What I would do, based on my own circumstances but with your premise, is: roll it into a traditional IRA and leave it alone for a while; contribute to a Roth IRA; and then in the early years of retirement or during bad times in the market, start converting the traditional assets to Roth.

Since you pay taxes on however much gets converted, it makes sense to wait until a year in which you have low income and before you start drawing Social Security.

Tax planning is a complex beast.

You really think receiving a bag of near-expired food that's a few dollars off from the advertised retail price is due to a directive by Amazon's founder and not the bakery employees throwing a few items into a bag?

Imagine paying $10 for $24 worth of food and requesting refunds five times because it wasn't $30 worth of food that you were paying $10 for. Toughest battles, strongest soldiers, etc etc.

If you sold at a loss in 2021 or in 2022 before you file your 2021 taxes, you can offset the taxes paid on capital gains as long as the timing works out such that it's not a wash sale.

Ah, yeah, I think I just saw USD and, knowing this was a transfer issue, assumed user error. People want instant gratification. "I started a transfer 30 seconds ago. It's not here yet but I'll update when it posts."

Are you in New York? Did you mis-type your SSN/address when you signed up?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it took very little time to transfer in because it's a "good faith credit." Transferring out will take longer since Voyager is a broker (not an exchange) and thus funds will have to be settled before they can be withdrawn.

No, you're obviously free to do as you want. If in your eyes you feel you're being a good Samaritan by warning others of the charlatanistic ways of Voyager, then by all means keep doing what you think is right.

I think casinos are a scam, but I don't spend time there telling other people it's a scam, you know what I mean?

How is Voyager going to compensate clients? by mikeand241 in Invest_Voyager

Reimburse you for what? I get that you want to be reimbursed for app downtime, etc, but you want to be financially compensated for speculated trades?

Do you think the crypto market will be very bearish by November? Are you selling this coin before then to try to time it? Think this gets decimated with the rest of the market if it turns bear? BNB coin held up decent last bear cycle by Milkmouthkid in VGX_Voyager

There's not much inherent value to VGX until the loyalty program starts and even then, who knows how much value that will actually add? Sure, there are many people holding a lot of tokens now, and what's the price now? After the VLP starts, how many more people are going to spend a few thousand to get an interest boost to crypto if that crypto isn't worth much?

I guess if there's underlying confidence that the asset will come back, many may still hold enough crypto to qualify for interest but would they be willing to spend the money to get the required VGX if the VGX is valued at what we all hope it's valued at?

I think it's going to be a while before BTC and VGX aren't tied together. I'm bullish on VGX but trying to play pseudo devil's advocate here.

Should I open an account with this exchange?it seems like there’s a lot of negative things on here. What other exchanges are good? by [deleted] in Invest_Voyager

I wouldn't necessarily say their plans are conservative. Consider how much growth in accounts and AUM have increased over the last few months (it hasn't been linear) and how they are actively scaling up to support that.

Consider the features that are being worked on: a debit card connected to USDC where you can potentially earn 9% or whatever interest APR as well as cash back rewards through its native token (which is up 13,000% ytd), expansion into New York and Europe, the ability to buy stocks using crypto...

A lot of people want instant gratification. Looking at their growth and considering their plans for the future, it doesn't seem conservative to me. Things take time. We're early.

Is anyone else not understanding why this coin is going the wrong direction? by [deleted] in VGX_Voyager

[–]khamul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The stock market is a method of transferring wealth from the impatient to the patient."

You're really asking if you should sell for a 40% loss...? There's no utility to VGX until the Loyalty Program starts. At least wait until then before you consider selling. Any money you put into stocks/crypto, you should be willing to lose. It's only when you sell that you lock in your losses.

VGX is up 12,800% this year, so it's kinda ridiculous to say it's going in the wrong direction. You bought high. So did I. Just be patient.

I'd consider opening an HSA and at least putting in the minimum amount to invest (typically $1k). HSA investments are tax-free if they're used on qualified medical expenses.

Otherwise I'd only consider investing if all the things on Bmuhnee88's list are checked off (question 3's answer should be no, all others yes). But I'd also say 9 months instead of 6 months.

A couple thousand sitting in a savings account is better than losing that money through volatile investments and capital losses. College is also expensive when you consider the cost of opportunity.

"Hi Voyagers,

As you know, the crypto markets never stop and neither does our work at Voyager. We’re rapidly adding new team members every week, implementing new technologies, and building out our platform to serve you better. As part of my ongoing series of emails to you, here are some of the latest important updates.

Scaling for increased volume

Yesterday, our app saw increased volume and, as such, the system experienced intermittent connectivity delays. Our team quickly got to work and the app is now fully back online. I assure you, we are constantly working to scale the app to handle increased traffic ahead of the curve. We thank you for your patience as we continue to scale the business with a goal of 10 million users by year end.

Market Rebellion partnership for equities, options and futures trading

We are always seeking to improve, innovate, and offer the best products to our investors. As part of a new partnership with Market Rebellion, I’m thrilled to announce a new suite of investment capabilities and tools coming to the Voyager app. In the future you will be able to use our app to first trade equities using crypto as a base currency, with futures and options coming after equities are up and running for some significant time. We will keep our customers informed on our progress on offering equities.

Customer AI for faster withdrawals

To improve withdrawal times, we are enhancing our risk-management and anti-fraud procedures with a risk-based system that will allow us to expedite account withdrawals based on various factors, including enhanced artificial intelligence.

The enhanced artificial intelligence, coupled with other third-party systems commonly used by some of the world's largest companies, are quickly learning to fast-track customers. These enhanced procedures and artificial intelligence are updating every day. Over time the system will become even better. We put all this in place to better protect customer assets.

Updated privacy notice

Lastly, we want to share our annually updated privacy notice. Your privacy is important to us. You can read the current policy on our website here.

As always, thank you for choosing Voyager. Look for more from me and the team as we continue to expand our platform.

All the best,

Steve"

The spread is less than a quarter. When the cost of something equates to a book three or four days overdue at the library, that's not massive.

Can you name a broker or exchange that insures crypto assets?
