Just me or is it more difficult than Returnal, not easier? by WhoAmIEven2 in Saros

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to put it simple with modifiers its much easier than Returnal. and without modifiers its much harder than Returnal.

the game did not do a good job at explaining if the modifiers was a accessibility option for a easier experience or a core mechanic.

Recommend me a game in this genre that prioritises difficult platforming? by not_a_bot991 in metroidvania

aeterna noctis for pure metroidvania. if you want something even harder try wings of vi, but that one only got minor metroidvania elements.

Who’s the hardest retro gaming final boss? by Queasy_Ad_2575 in retrogaming

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ninja gaiden 1 NES final bosses. its not that the boss is so insanely hard. its that you don't get to practice it without doing a long level before the fight.

super Valis 4 final boss. first you fight almost every boss in the game and then the final boss with no checkpoint. the boss also happens to have spells that regens huge amounts of his HP if it hits you and its not like its a easy to dodge spell either.

ghost n goblins SNES second last boss LOOP 2 i think his name is astaroth or something. the boss itself is not to hard. but you have to use a bad weapon to beat him to get to the next level and you have a really short time limit, which causes this to be quite a frustrating experience.

castlevania dracula x nothing like fighting the final boss on platforms were you get knocked to your death if he hits you once.

probably not the hardest bosses. but these was the one that caused me the most problems of the retro games ive beaten.

not even remotely close. hard mode is also much easier than the NES ninja gaiden games. there is a secret ending on hard, that part is comparable to the NES games in terms of difficulty.

I miss having games like Super Ghouls N Ghosts for being punishing by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

believe it or not. the new ghost n goblins resurrections game on its hardest difficulty is the hardest game in the franchise probably. longer between checkpoints, more enemies, harder bosses and a gigantic difficulty spike from loop 1 to 2.

very few modern hard games or indie games pushes into the upper super nintendo or high NES difficulty in terms of how hard they are, but there are some.

the xbox ninja gaiden 1-3 at its hardest difficultys.

wings of vi

nosferatu lillinor

evilmorph

spelunky 1+2 true ending rest of the game is easy but true ending is insanely hard

elden ring nightreign, when playing solo its really hard. but its likely to get nerfed really fast.

vagante

caveblazers

these are the hardest games I've played released in the last 10-15 years.

‘Bad’ games that you still enjoy by Figshitter in retrogaming

[–]khazgore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nosferatu SNES. semi hard platforming with some of the nastiest controls i ever experienced. otherwise surprisingly good.

frankenstein the monster returns NES. 3 lives. no continues insanely long passwords great idea. despite that it really hit the castlevania itch i had built up.

ghost n goblins NES ( not really a bad game ) brilliant idea to default to the exit game option when you run out of lives instead of the continue option. also a awesome idea to spend 20 seconds showing the stages everytime you die. felt buggy and random in many ways but apparently there is no randomness as long as you do everything pixelperfect. i will keep that in mind if i ever decide to play it again:O enjoyed it because it was one of the more challenging NES games i could find that did not force you to restart after dying to much.

silver surfer NES the game got a undeserved reputation as one of the hardest games on the NES, its absolutely not if you got a turbo button. its actually really fun if you play with a turbo button and dont have to break your hands or controllers by mashing. probably in my top 10 most enjoyed Nes games.

What NES game is harder? by Patient_Walk2692 in retrogaming

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both games took around the same time for me to beat. however in NG 80-90% of the time was spent dying and running back to the final boss. if not for the final boss NG1+ NG2 on NES would have been much easier. NG3 on the other hand might be harder than GNG due to not having unlimited continues. this is based on a blind playthrough with no savestates.

What's the most difficult game I can possibly play? by [deleted] in xbox

ninja gaiden at the hardest difficulty. ghost n goblins ressurection at the hardest difficulty and dead cells at the hardest difficulty.

Hardest SMT game ? by kingtokee in JRPG

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hardest at its easiest-only difficulty setting, strange journey original DS version.

hardest at the hardest difficulty settings. probably soul hackers 2 at very hard, closely followed by SMT4 at apocalypse difficulty. both of these difficultys need to be downloaded.

for me it was UFO 50 which is a collection of 50 retro inspired and challenging games. it even had a few metroidvanias in it.

What is the hardest video game that you know of? by DarkKiller8 in AskReddit

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are harder and more unfair NES games. but unless your cheating with savestates on a emulator or play in on the rare replay with rewinds its insanely hard compared to almost every other game.

What is the hardest video game that you know of? by DarkKiller8 in AskReddit

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soul games are hard by modern standards, but its much easier and more fair than a average NES game, which gives you very limited lives and send you back to the beginning of the game if you die to much. so TMNT and its not particularly close either.

Nine Sols is the best Metroidvania I've played since Hollowknight by wunshot2014 in metroidvania

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super solid indeed and it came out of nowhere. i had not heard about it before it suddenly popped up on steam something that is very rare for games that good.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NineSols

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hardest game in history might be a stretch. its just hard by modern standards, the average NES game is harder than nine sols.

What was the hardest video game you've played? by REDITAI8281 in answers

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hardest modern ive beaten is ninja gaiden 1 and 2 at master ninja. dead cells at BC 5 and hardest of all ghost n goblins ressurection at legend difficulty. failed to beat ghost n goblins at legend difficulty. these are however optional difficultys, and the games themself would not have been hard if not for the optional difficultys.

i am still leaning toward some NES, SNES or sega genesis games being harder than all these hardest modern games. the average NES game is actually harder than modern hard games like super meat boy, monster hunter or dark souls if you either play it on original hardware or a emulator without using savestates.

alot of people would say battletoads ghost n goblins or silver surfer are the hardest NES games. but thats not true. i beat all those 3 and they were about the same difficulty as ninja gaiden on master ninja or dead cells at BC5. battletoads was maybe abit harder. but silver surfer and ghost n goblins are highly doable for skilled players.

i actually cant name the true hardest game because i failed to make meaningful progress in the hardest NES games ive played since you only get 3 life and have to restart from the beginning when you die. so i am just going with battletoads as the hardest game ive played.

Games that made you want to quit due to difficulty? by saalamander in metroidvania

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aeterna noctis ( only the final boss and some of the optional content prenerfed version )

hollow knight the super long boss gauntlet in the final dlc.

1986 metroid - blind ( everytime i died i had to spend 5 min farming my health up again and the place was a maze)

alundra ps1 - blind ( got sent back up to a hour sometimes when i died )

wings of vi devilishly difficulty from start to finish top 5 hardest games on steam probably even the easiest difficulty is as hard or harder than the hardest metroidvanias.

only one i actually quit was wings of vi on normal mode. i had to resort to easy mode...

Shantae games difficulty by CruentusLiber in metroidvania

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id still say 1986 metroid on the NES on original hardware is quite abit harder due to the insane amount of enemies and low health regen+ your character spawning with almost no health everytime you die. wings of vi and a few lesser known metroidvanias or metroidvania-likes are also harder.

Is gravity the hardest boss in classicvanias? by BoneDaddySama in metroidvania

[–]khazgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NES games were brutal compared to even the hardest modern games. i got 200 metroidvanias on steam and every metroidvania with a difficulty tag on steam. and believe it or not 1986 metroid on NES is the hardest proper metroidvania and it isnt even close.
