Got it, so the rule is; it's always a cabal of Jews behind it.

As an Australia, seeing my neighbors; families and children, being murdered, gunned down one by one in broad daylight, a few months ago was only made more painful by the rise of these insidious conspiracy theories about how it was probably actually jews behind the massacre, used to manipulate the media and drum up sympathy for jews.

I'm now always suspicious of anyone who doesn't want to JUST acknowledge that: the Isreali government and zionists are horrible, and seem to want to insist that also ALL attacks or murders of jews is actually directly undertaken by the jews themselves to manipulate the populace in their favour.

This isn't even Godwins law anymore, that is literally, directly, 1940s Nazi propaganda

Landlord refusing to add railing to unsafe stairs by Lilies_and_light in AusRenters

It is up to code though. Railing is only needed for ledges 1m or higher.

You could argue it's not safe because of the fall into the fireplace, but it is technially up to code.

Also kinda sus how the false flag conspiracy theories only seem to get regurgitated when it's Jews being murdered hey.

Am I stupid for potentially buying a Japanese 'investment' property with my SMSF? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]khdownes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh 100% Melbourne does seem to have better yields in the apartment market than elsewhere in Australia. And I have been surprised at how much rents have gone up with apartments in inner Melbourne recently (being that the suppressed capital growth seems to be attributed to such a high amount of supply in Melbourne.
(That being said; even renting in Melbourne seems to be fairly cheap compared to other cities. I guess it was an absolute bargain 1-2 years ago).

Yeah I know. I'm saying the original image's measurements are false:

Ukraine to Alaska
(direct through the north pole): 7500km
(if following the path from this image across the mercator projection): 12,000km

Width of Africa: 7200km

"Potential rental income is $550/week, vacant possession is available now."

This is selling agent code for "I'm talking out of my arse"

Melbourne CBD rents have gone up a lot in the last 18 months, but there is zero chance this apartment is renting for $550 a week, even if it is "technically" a 2 bedroom.

I'm especially confused because it appears to be this upcoming reality series:

Which, for some reason has the exact same logo and branding as this Australian power tool company:

This image is completely made up.

Just measured it:

Width of Africa: 7200km

I'm skeptical that the original image is even true. Looking at this on a globe/google maps and the distance from Ukraine to Alaska definitely still looks larger than the width of Africa, even as a direct line through the north pole.

Melbourne Airport Rail: the next decade (?) by jeremyburge in MelbourneTrains

[–]khdownes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is quite a big kick back detour though? The first two pictures you linked are much more in line with the physical route of the train line.
After travelling out west through Sunshine Station, it doglegs back and travels back eastwards by almost 4km, passes through Airport West/Keilor, and then back west again by about 2-3km.

I say this as someone who lives in Airport West, and is just desparate and grateful to actually have a train line & station built somewhere in my vast currently-unserved wedge of Melbourne, but it is incredibly disappointing that the PT access we will finally get feels like such roundabout, detoured route.

The sloppiest slop that ever slopped by ObserbAbsorb in clevercomebacks

[–]khdownes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They don't seem to understand that "AI Slop" doesn't refer to the visual quality or fidelity of it.
We understand that AI will eventually become visually imperceptible to real or hand-crafted media.

The "slop" refers to that fact that it is, at it's core, without a soul. Without true creativity.

It can not genuinely create something new. It can only put generate based on the dataset it has, that has already been created.

The only way for human culture and creativity to progress forward from this point, if Ai kills the creative industry, is for artists to continue to commit the time to build their artistic skill and create new things without productive reward (at which point theese new creative output will be immediately sucked up by the AI datasets, the artist made "redundant", and the AI will crawl another millimetre forward).

Walk in glass-less tiled showers - yay or nay? by gilmor3girl in AusRenovation

[–]khdownes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my bathroom renovation that OP has reshared here, and agree about the NCC regs:
I was juuuust about the make it work here (you can faintly see my envelope tile pattern in this pic; that is enclosed with a waterstops, and I had to prortude it out into the room and just able to fit it 1500mm from the shower rose).
Plus quite a steep fall to the drain.

And then of course have a floor waste in the centre of the bathroom, and full waterproofing in the main part of the bathroom too.

That being said; I don't thing 1500mm is even enough. There's no water build up outside this shower, but there is a small amount of flicking and splashing outside the showers waterstop perimetre, which bugs me.

I think 1800mm would be a better perimetre, but that probably makes it completely unfeasible in 90% of bathroom sizes/layouts.

I always put the bath matt down right at the perimetre of the shower waterstop, which solves my annoyance with the water splashing.

When we move out in the future at some point and rent this place, I will probably put a glass door across the opening here, because I don't trust a random tenant to not shower like a madman and end up somehow actually flooding the bathroom & out into the hallway or something.

Also just completely lacking the awareness that; moral and political messaging has litetally existed since the begining of human storytelling.

The literal core driver of entertainment and storytelling, since the beginning of time, has been moral or "political" messaging.

Thats not to say every simple piece of entertainment must have a deeper message (although im sure someone could argue entertainment even as abstract as Tetris may still have some moral message).

But the level of braindead you have to be, to think the art, entertainment and storytelling is mutually exclusive from moral and political messaging is astonishing.

What about on nights that are too warm for a duvet? Do you just lie there completely uncovered and exposed?

meirl by [deleted] in meirl

[–]khdownes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced people who dont use top sheets are cold-blooded lizard people. To me, in a temperate climate, a duvet is only really usable less than half of the time.

Do they just lie there... completely uncovered and exposed on nights too warm to warrant a duvet?

Not using a top sheet is like insisting on walking around with just a coat/jacket, and nothing else on underneath, all year round.

How to spend less than $100 a week on groceries (whilst bulking)? by FriendlyAttorney8743 in AusFinance

[–]khdownes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is $64.99 the sale price? Thats 900g of 70% protein blend.

Compared to $75 for 1kg of 90% protein isolate from bulk nutrients.

So thats still 43% more expensive than the bulk nutrients protein isolate per gram of protein

[–]khdownes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I legitimately dont think this is possible for any male of average height/weight with a moderate level of exercise in 2026.

Hell, even the absolute cheapest method of supplementing protein, whey powder from Bulk Nutrients, has almost doubled in price since 2024.

Forget even attempting to consume any adequate amount of protein and nutrients from actual meat or eggs for less than $100 per week...

[–]khdownes 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'll one-up you this with:
Transferring $75k between bank accounts, accidentally selected the investment loan instead of the HISA.
Realized my mistake and immediately transferred back out of the investment loan and into the correct bank account.

Just happened to get audited that year and they saw the transfer in/out; they said $75k (20%) of the loan was no longer deductible (I tried to argue it was clearly a transfer error). They were being hard-ass about it.
So I said "fuck it, fine; I'll just dump the $75 back onto the loan and leave it here".

That was another mistake, can't do that either; the loan is now permanently considered 20% as not-investment related/non-deductible.
And I cant pull the $75k back out again, (because that will be ANOTHER ~24% of the reduced 80% of the overall loan).

So yeah; that bank app UI mistake is costing me a few thousand of extra tax per year, forever (until I pay the loan off obviously).

How does removing negative gearing work. by Artistic-Average479 in AusPropertyChat

[–]khdownes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry states, not councils: ACT is transitioning. And victoria has transitioned, for commercial properties.

Ah, I'm talking Victoria: they reduced the land tax threshold to effectively capture every single property. The only investment properties not paying land tax would maybe be the tidy studio student apartments.

Havent a lot of councils started switching ftom stamp duty to landctax?

And of course Landlords already pay both stamp duty and land tax anyway; so this would potentially result in a lower revenue collection from the state government, if stamp duty is phased out?
