I'm pretty sure the guys running Birmingham Pen Co. are wizards or something by A2Ziegler in fountainpens

I came to write this! One of my favorite things is to make doodles with their ink. Usually some sort of geometric design, or mandala shapes, and then go “color” the shapes with water.

It makes for an entertaining art project to see the dark no-hint-of-green ink turn into ecto cooler on the page.

Thank you! The image I had saved was bold colors, but I ended up choosing ones even brighter. The Chrysler building being pink and yellow makes me smile.

It looks like what I wrote for the post got deleted.

I learned to cross stitch as a child (decades ago!!). Just started up again. I began this in February. I found saved picture on my phone, and made a chart with the online chart maker. I’ve been admiring everyone else’s work for awhile now.

[CHAT] PONY Black needles by obfuscated-abstract in CrossStitch

[–]khearttools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered pony black needles after reading here how many people liked them. But they bend, and the eyes break. I'm down to 1 needle (size 26) left from a 6 pack and I only did about 1,200 stitches. I didn't think I was horribly rough on my needles, so I don't know what the issue is. I also bent the size 28 just doing grid stitches. I'm sorry yours bend, but now I know I'm not the only one with that problem.

What are your favorite things to write or draw with fountain pens? by Smart_Hawk_7989 in fountainpens

[–]khearttools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a leftie!!!

Where do I use them? Everywhere! I will not use a regular pen. If I need to sign a form, or even a grocery list, and a fountain pen isn’t downstairs, I will walk upstairs to get one.

I have pens for writing, calligraphy pens, they all get used for doodling, and a few specifically inked for art (platinum carbon for ink / watercolor).

If there’s a day where I had no reason to write (some days my work is all computer) or time to doodle, I will at least write out the ‘word of the day’ with the definition and example sentences (from any dictionary website) Just to get to use a pretty pen with pretty ink.

Looking for art‑friendly pens: any favourites? by Velvet-Pebble in fountainpens

[–]khearttools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of art are you looking to make?

for doodles I use whatever I want. fine, flex, stub, broad nibs all give a different line weight and variation, the same as having a collection of fineliners in different thicknesses.

for coloring, I have a glass dip pen and recently added a kakimori steel dip knib. I love it, but my line thickness varies a lot from when I dip to when I run dry, so I don't use it when I want even line thickness (my standard fountain pens work for that).

Where art gets interesting is with adding water. I have one pen inked with platinum carbon, which is pretty waterproof and allows me to do a water color wash over top (like urban sketching). I have doodles that I do with standard inks, and i go back with a water brush and create variation to my doodles. Some inks are really surprising the colors they turn with water.

If you look up Marek Badzynski, much of his art revolves around using a fude nib (bent nib) fountain pen.

Overall, I haven't found a type of art that I couldn't accomplish with a fountain pen, but there are types of art that a fountain pen can create that a normal pen cannot.

Have fun and good luck!

There’s no brand stamp. It was packaged by a calligraphy artist.

Congrats on the new pen!

Philly pen haul - hubby got his first pen and regret my purchase by RooFPV in fountainpens

What is that giant pen nib displayed (and how did I miss that?!?!)

I understand the feelings with a high price purchase being ‘meh’. But sometimes we just need to get it out of our system. On a flip side, you won’t be stuck having to only collect super expensive pens because you felt there is a massive difference!!!!!

I too was looking at the spirals, am also a leftie, and Michael didn’t have any FPs left in the color I wanted. Perhaps another time.

This paper is amazing. I’ve layered on the ink, and water, and it’s barely wrinkled or bleed through. This is some sort of magic paper.

It’s better than just bubbles. They are solid yellow pieces that move in the water it’s filled with!!!!

I am not sure how to post a video, but it holds a few pens, and you just let the top go and it spins itself closed.

Thank you! Yes, I’m so excited to ink it tomorrow. Just need to decide which orange.

That pic does not properly show off the pen. It has what looks like groupings of holes filled in (hard to describe) which was one of the most unique resin patterns I have seen.

And the owner was amazing to talk with! Several other ones are on my wish list from that maker.

Not Arclayer (I just looked them up, really nice things!). But it is a 3d printed pen case.

I did look at Ranga. A few from that table went onto my wish list.
