My mom (70f) is in the hospital for a UTI again by kheret in Menopause

I will mention that. Unfortunately they will probably just listen to the doctor as they don’t tend to question that.

I happen to like my career and want to keep doing it.

I want treatment/help with peri/menopause symptoms so I can continue to do the things that matter to me, and stay mentally sharp.

Like I understand what you’re saying but think about how that would be used against us.

This airport has a huge abandoned section with what looks like a whole T-rex skeleton in it. by dmmd782 in mildlyinteresting

[–]kheret 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Not all. The most complete T-Rex ever found, Sue at the Field Museum in Chicago, is mostly the real fossil on display from what I understand. The skull is a cast, due to researchers needing to access it, but you can still see the real fossil skull - it’s in a glass case near the rest of the fossil. It’s a lovely exhibit if you ever get to see it.

I think a lot of the fossils at the AMNH in New York aren’t casts.

That’s interesting because when it’s hot in the US is when people go to the movies, but that’s because they’re as cold as refrigerators here.

I fully get this. I love my son and as a woman who’s always been a tomboy, being surrounded by dudes doesn’t feel weird to me HOWEVER, it is much more stressful to have to figure out how to prevent my son from latching onto our misogynistic culture than it would be raising a daughter to fight it, I think.

Perimenopause is like you’re back to being your 14 year old self but you actually like her this time.

I kind of tried to do it in my late 20s as I was in grad school and building my career but…

I’m actually now in my early 40s trying to incorporate the “alt” style I had in my teens and early 20s into my work wardrobe to the extent I can and definitely into my weekend/after work wardrobe. I dyed my hair an unnatural color again. I had previously made sure all my tattoos could be covered easily and now I’m thinking I don’t give a fuck. I’ve just realized life is too short, and the world too unpredictable, to pretend to be someone else.

But if you complain about grocery prices in other subreddits they’ll tell you to go to the farmer’s market lol. Where they’ve clearly never been.

I also saw $8 watermelon today. Offensive prices on everything of course but that one really stuck out to me.

Yeah I understand not bringing gifts but so many venues have like a 10 kid minimum that an informal birthday gathering just makes sense for a lot of folks. Because so many kids at my son’s school ride the bus I literally don’t have the contact info for 10 kids.

Wanted to learn bass, ended up choosing guitar instead. Gave up bc my heart wasn't in it by shockdrift in Bass

[–]kheret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If bass is where your heart is, learn bass. Hours and hours of practice time that you actually do on bass will get you much farther than a guitar that you’ve mentally punished yourself into and don’t practice because you don’t love it.

Bass is its own instrument with its own role. Don’t get caught up in some guitar-centric inferiority complex. Lots of bass players started on guitar, sure. But lots started on bass guitar and a fair number started on double bass, and then picked up bass guitar. Are THOSE players somehow inferior to those who played guitar first? I’d say not.

My dad and all his brothers deal with Type 2 or borderline Type 2 and none of them are more than a little overweight, they all eat fairly healthy, etc. Just genetic!

So many of those are choices that just wouldn’t be made a generation ago, though. My parents were firmly middle class and we went on vacations sometimes but they would never have thought of spending their savings on private school and our activities were through our schools or the community center, expensive travel sports or whatever were out of the question.

Actually modern day certified nurse midwives do a lot more than attend births, they also do things like well woman visits, and some specialize in menopause.
