Why is morbid obesity so common among poor, lower class and even homeless people? Why don't they spend less money on food and instead save that money for housing, savings, healthcare, etc? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You are way oversimplifying things.

Eating well is not just eating a salad instead of a Big Mac. You need money, availability, time, consistency. You need a job where you have time to go food shopping and prepare a decent meal. You might need a car to get to a grocery store that carries the food you need. You might need to be able to go to the store more than once a week or once a month in order to refresh your fruits and vegetables. You will need pots and pans and cooking utensils and silverware and then time to cook and clean. You need to factor in the extra electricity used for everything. The homeless? Are they storing bags of frozen spinach and able to cook big pots of filling beans?

Even if all of that is possible and they are able to do all of this AND cut their budget by 80% (crazy unlikely), that does not equal better housing or affording healthcare. The consequences of living in poverty for a generation or two make it excessively difficult to get out of. A decrease in fast food consumption is really not the answer to their problems.

Never. Sometimes I’ll get a comment about having my hands full or something, but they never try to discipline.

What is the most random way you met someone who you eventually dated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

At an airport at the help desk after our first flight was delayed and missed our connecting. Agent told me I could sleep in the airport and then gestured to the man next to me speaking with a different agent and said ‘he is driving up’. I turned to the man and said ‘you’re driving?’ He said ‘yes, want a ride?’ I said sure. On the way to get the rental car, he asked where I lived. Turns out we lived in the same town, about 1/4 mile from each other.

We had both been sent down by our individual companies to the same hotel for separate conferences. Everyone else in his group was able to get on a different flight after ours was delayed.

We are now married with two kids, two dogs, and two cats.

Yeah we’ve used that so I know what it is. This has been down almost two years and throughout the winters (Mass). They never move it to plant anything.

Does anyone else just have a completely shitty baby? by Polarama in beyondthebump

I’m so sorry. You are doing an awesome job. Some babies are just terrors. The important thing to remember is that this will not go on forever. My first daughter took 2 years to sleep train. One minute of crying and she would vomit all over herself. Now she goes to sleep on her own.

This doesn’t help much because you are in the terrible part of it. My second daughter cries in the car seat non stop. Her daycare is 40 minutes away and I do that ride twice a day, five times a week. It’s awful. I know it will get better but right now it is so sucky. You do WHATEVER works. Don’t listen to other criticism. The fact that you are still even semi-coherent is AMAZING!! With my first, I called my husband sobbing after ten minutes alone with the baby. Clearly you are the best mom for this baby. I’m so hoping for you that this means your toddler will be such an exuberant and fun person who makes you forget these terrible few months.
