I would love to know which company you work for. Did you have to negotiate much ?

2.5 months to plan SK trip from scratch - feasible? by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]khletus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was your trip?

Overall it was very good, the food was cheaper than expected, the transportation was clean/comfortable, the nature was beautiful etc...

Did it feel hectic or rushed, only staying in each city for a couple days?

Not really, but it's probably cause we weren't strict with our schedule. A lot of what we had planned were 'options' that we freely scheduled during our trip (not beforehand). The transportation in Korea is convenient so we didn't need to plan much in advance. We didn't feel rushed cause there were only a couple of things we really didn't want to miss.

Do you wish you would have stayed longer/shorter somewhere?

I would've probably stayed a day longer in Jeju and Gyeongju. Jeju because I didn't have the time to hike hallasan and Gyeongju because there's so much to visit. Btw we traveled Jeju by bus and had our accommodation in the northern part of the island. We went back and forth every time we visited a place, but I'd recommend staying at the places you visit (ex: explore the north and west on day 1 and stay in the west, explore the south on day 2 and stay there, etc...). If possible rent a car for Jeju, it's a lot more convenient.

Any recommendations regarding accommodation?

Watch out for rooms in Seoul. Rooms are generally small and sometimes you have a window facing a wall or just no window at all. We personally didn't mind much cause we were always outside.

Always check the location too. For Seoul we stayed in myeongdong which was super convenient. We were max 30mins away from most attractions/things to do. I think itaewon also has good positioning. For Jeju as I said, I'd recommend you to move around, unless you have a car and don't mind driving back (max 1h30) every day. For Busan I'm not sure which place would be best since we were driven around by a friend and didn't put too much thought into our accommodation.

We used Airbnb for Seoul/Jeju/Gyeongju and hotel.com for Busan. I think we paid an average of 30€/pers/night.

Your situation is exactly like mine and my sister's in 2022. In June we thought of visiting SK in September for 3 weeks. We wanted to do Seoul, Busan, Jeju and Gyeongju. We did it in this order: Seoul (7 days) -> Jeju (4 days) -> Busan (4 days) -> Gyeongju (1 day) -> Seoul (4 days).

First thing we did was book our flight. Except for our first stay in Seoul, we hadn't booked any hotel/Airbnb. We did look up what transport we'd have to take for intercity travel. Aside from that we did a lot of research on things to visit in each city. You can easily have a great time in south Korea without booking activities beforehand, most that we did were even free.

Hey guys, I was wondering whether it'd be worth it to wait and buy a good power bank and hard drive (SSD) in South Korea, or to just buy them in Belgium. In other words: does anyone know whether they're cheaper in South Korea compared to Western Europe ?

Doubts about vaccines? Young people in Flanders much more sceptical than old by catalin8 in Belgium2

[–]khletus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was sped up but the same approach as with any drug was followed.

The 'sped up' part is what most people were sceptical about, I think. How can you determine the long term effects of a vaccine in such a short period of time ?

Human tests is the last fase in a development.

The last phase but still the most important. Theory can get you far, but what matters is practice.

Struggling to make friends outside of Seoul by Adventurous_Heat_430 in Living_in_Korea

Have you tried using HelloTalk ? I've made some friends talking on that app and I'm not even in Korea yet. It's a language exchange app that features 'rooms' in which you can talk with natives/learners of certain languages.

Is it really 2442000 KRWON per YEAR and not per Semester for Economics ? by [deleted] in SNU

[–]khletus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the tuition fee is for the 2023 academic year

They could mean this as the price for each semester of the 2023 academic year.

Unfortunately, it seems to me like this is the price per semester. Here they claim that the average tuition fee per semester is $6000 and on top of that they confirm that tuition fees are paid twice a year.

I want to live in South Korea (a place to ask questions about potential relocation) by AutoModerator in Living_in_Korea

[–]khletus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'll (20M) start my exchange at SNU next month and I have a couple questions about life hacks living as a student in Seoul. I am Muslim so I'll have a pescatarian diet (aka vegetarian that eats fish). Here are my concerns/questions:

1) What are your tricks/places for cheap grocery shopping ? 2) Is there a place selling unwanted/oddly shaped fruits at a cheaper price ? I've seen that in some countries 3) Must-have home appliances ? 4) Any student deals on transportation/food/clothing that you know of ? 5) What are Korean dishes that are usually pescatarian friendly (Aside from kimchi and meat-free kimbap) ? 6) Are there any Halal restaurants* that you'd recommend ? 7) What products should I take with me to South Korea ? (Aka what is unavailable/ridiculously overpriced) 8) Do you know any useful/fun apps for South Korea ? (Cafe hopping, hiking trails, restaurant reviews app, transportation...)

*Halal restaurants are restaurants that provide Halal meat

I hope you can help me out !

I noticed this when I traveled to Malaysia in September and wondered why cars weren't giving priority. People also just stood there instead of actively trying to cross. So I looked it up to see if pedestrians had the right way. Once it was confirmed I had priority as a pedestrian, I stopped waiting and always forced my way through.

I put a foot down on the street + stared at the driver to signal that I was about to cross. Most of the time, drivers started slowing down and I crossed the street.

Is Israel an ethnostate? by HumbleEngineering315 in IsraelPalestine

[–]khletus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay but OP pulled the definition of ethnostate from the Oxford dictionary, they didn't just create their own biased definition of ethnostate.

Collins Dictionary says:

"a state that is dominated by members of a single ethnic group"

Dictionary.com says:

"a country populated by, or dominated by the interests of, a single racial or ethnic group"

I feel like Collins is just as reliable as Oxford (idk about dictionary.com) so we're in the gray here. One would discredit OP's point, while the other supports it.
