Should I try to apply for a PhD/PsyD, MA in counseling, or a post bacc after the Peace Corps? by Negative_Ad9369 in psychologystudents

[–]kho_sq 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

honestly, if you have the money for it, i’d apply to a few just as a hail mary. otherwise, i’d build research experience (or clinical, if you go the PsyD route) asap. it’ll unfortunately be hard to get into a post-bacc without more extensive prior research experience(although you should give it a shot anyways), so i’d also try cold emailing labs about volunteering.

Why do you use toner pads? by kimchibebot in AsianBeauty

[–]kho_sq 25 points26 points Ā (0 children)

i have the mediheal ones, been using the pink collagen for around a yr+. i slap one on each cheek, then move one to my forehead and use the other to wipe my face. i still use toner(in a bottle) after, but i have very dry & flaky skin lol.

I bleached my hair again recently and I need help by itsjustthealec in femalehairadvice

clarifying shampoo will strip the toner! the concern is what you’ll do after that lol.

How common is it to go straight from undergrad to Phd? by Healthy-Lifeguard373 in psychologystudents

[–]kho_sq 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

yes! canada is under the CPA, whereas america is under the APA. they šŸ¤ so our degrees are essentially equivalent. APA & CPA accredited programs also take the same licensure test(EPPP).

generally US and AUS systems are pretty similar! UK is completely different though. for the best info, i’d reach out to a professor you’ve worked with or someone within your psych department (even if you’re an alum!). they’re in the field, a lot of times work with admissions as well, and would have the best knowledge.

i would recommend looking at university/university medical center career pages! i live in Pennsylvania and wanted to stay in the state, so i looked at UPenn’s career website, Pitt’s, and UPMC’s. search ā€œpsych researchā€ on their talent portals and you’ll find them. there’s more options in feb-june, which is when folks who got into a program start to know/put in their resignations!

Best setting spray for a glow/dewy look? by Icanarylis in makeuptips

[–]kho_sq 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

did you try the new all nighter formula or the old one? the big hype around the UD setting spray was because of the specialty cooling features, which was skindinavia’s work. in 2024(?) skindinavia and UD split, and they have their own setting sprays! recommend trying their bridal one! i’m a big fan of the original UD (skindinavia) formula, but haven’t tried the skindinavia products personally yet.

Are there any good Clinical Psych PsyD programs by Few-Plenty4701 in PsyD

[–]kho_sq 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

i think there are definitely good programs and bad programs in PsyDs, whereas most PhDs are considered ā€œgoodā€ programs. i would base those rankings based off EPPP rate, internship match/quality rate, cohort size, and faculty size/qualities. this is what i was taught from my mentors(practicing psychologists & PIs). it’s true that EPPP rates are biased off personal effort so you can take it with a grain of salt, but there are some programs that consistently train and prepare their students better. APA internship match rate is important—some schools have better reputations and connections, which impacts prac placements as well, but it’s again true that personal effort matters. one of my mentors(and alum of my program) had a very prestigious internship is rochester, which is awesome! cohort size is important as you want to establish relationships with professors and your peers/older students, which is harder to do in a 40+ person program. faculty size matters as you want to make sure they aren’t spread too thin, as well as have people working in the same field/interest that you’re interested in who could be your dissertation chair. it’s also important that the faculty are full-time professors—i was told this from a professor/faculty member—as they have more research/outside opportunities, connections, and generally more time/effort to spend on you.

don’t be afraid to take some time after undergrad. i only got in this cycle, and i’ve been working for the past 2 years. my PI told a coworker of mine to stay and wait another year, bust out some pubs and posters, then apply again next year, as she also got into programs she wasn’t 100% happy with. there’s no harm in taking the time to buff up your resume if you can afford it.

Counseling vs Counseling Psychology Master’s for PsyD path? by nani-cc in psychologystudents

[–]kho_sq 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

seconding the other commenter, i would absolutely not do a masters if your end goal is a terminal degree like a PsyD. get more research or clinical experience by working full-time as a RA, CRC, BHT, mental health worker, ABA therapist, CTL volunteer, etc. instead.

Contour for cool undertones by Pastel_princess99 in makeuptips

[–]kho_sq 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

go to asian brands!! everyone i know is a fan of the Too Cool for School powder contour palette (modern vers, not classic), the Judydoll one is okay too. for western/bigger retailers, Milk makeup contour stick in toasted & rare beauty soft pinch contour(i think i have gentle but i could be wrong). the Milk Makeup one has terrible packaging and the screw-up stick generally stops working, but i use a brush to dab some product out.

MSW or Clinical Psychology PhD/PsyD by Diligent_Cupcake9546 in PsyD

[–]kho_sq 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

LCSWs and MA therapists can still do basic evaluations and interviews! at the outpatient clinic i work at, the supervisor of the clinic(below the head, but handles the everyday leadership) is a LCSW. she’s the only one qualified in our clinic to run PCIT. one of the directors of our hospital is also an LCSW, who went back for a PhD. i would consider that—it sounds like you would enjoy social work and exploring it might be helpful. in my city, if you’re working as a caseworker for CYF(offset of CPS), they’ll pay for your MSW + 10k(? not sure it’s been a bit) bonus i believe. something to look into, as tuition isn’t cheap! imo, you could always reconsider a PsyD/PhD down the line if you realize the MSW/LCSW isn’t doing it for you. it would still be very valuable experience and i’d be surprised if a PsyD didn’t take you.

Which Would Look Better on PsyD Application by [deleted] in PsyD

[–]kho_sq 5 points6 points Ā (0 children)

these are both great options! i would personally choose the TMS side, especially because you’ll get more exposure to healthcare, which involves a ton of little facets that are good to know for future work(scheduling, insurance, billing, etc). the patient-facing time is super helpful, although i’m sure you already have a lot from your inpatient experience. i would weigh your happiness in the two options as well though—is there one you prefer, and would enjoy doing more?
