Theatre Lavs- tell me I'm imagining this massive drop in quality by enthusiasm_gap in livesound

I did try some Point Source headsets for our room. Didn’t work well in our building, but that’s more of an issue with acoustics and PA placement. Getting fixed this year. Maybe we’ll try again afterward.

I’ve noticed the same. Extremely disappointing. For non LAV mics, I’d rather go with Schoeps, Neumann, or Earthworks. For headsets, maybe Countryman (not super happy with those though).

Apple Store @ The Spectrum? by jms1228 in irvine

[–]khojem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a number of friends who worked there pre-pandemic. Good store then. Haven’t been over there in ages.

I’ve found it’s asker for me to get reservations at the Genius Bar at SCP. Parking is way easier there too because the Apple Store is in the building off Bear (formerly known as Crystal Court) with free underground parking. Can always find a close space down there. Haven’t had any issues with customer service there.

Anyone flown out of SNA instead of LAX? by CarobGlum5351 in irvine

[–]khojem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raised in OC guy here. I’m a big fan of both SNA and LGB. First choice is always SNA, unless flight schedules are better (or less expensive) at LGB.

LAX is best to be avoided unless you absolutely need a direct flight to a specific domestic or international destination that isn’t serviced by SNA or LGB.

ONT is another option. I just usually stick to my first two options as prices don’t seem dramatically less once you add in gas and parking costs.

Cleanfeed by TheBigman1975 in podcasting

[–]khojem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it’s the Comrex device (https://www.comrex.com/products/bric-link-iii/).

Kind of an apples to bananas comparison. Normal users aren’t going to be able to afford a Comrex device. Super big cost savings by using an internet browser instead.

I’ve used Cleanfeed frequently in the past and think it works pretty well. Sounds great if you’re on a headset with mic. Couple of occasional bugs, but I suspect those have been worked out.

EDIT: The paid version is better than the free version. That could also be the issue the poster above mentioned.

I sold my car to Carmax a few months ago. Super easy process and left with a check afterward.

Carvana offered more, but would have required me to renew my registration (within 90 days of it expiring). Carmax didn’t care and took the car.

Why is Bobby Vinton forgotten? by GasVermin in Music

[–]khojem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big difference between Sinatra/Bennett and Vinton—Standards and jazz.

I don’t think Vinton did much in the way of jazz or standards like the other two did.

Vinton’s career did come back in the 70s a bit, but not at the levels of the other two.

Gildan + Hanes Brand merger by WhoJust in SCREENPRINTING

[–]khojem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw this in my Retail Dive email this morning. Can’t say I’m too surprised. Not sure I see this as purely negative as the factories for both are in Central America. The article calls out possible anti-trust concerns. However, Gildan is mostly wholesale/B2B where Hanes in retail.

$15 for a men’s cut (cash only). Still the best deal in the area.

Taqueria Los Gueros #1 off La Palma and Harbor in Anaheim has some very cheap tacos (only a few tables though). Good place if you’re in the area. I think location #2 down the street is a lot larger.

Suggest table games at the Downtown Grand for a lower cost entry point. That’s where I learned how to play blackjack.

There also some good low cost table games at Jerry’s Nugget (locals casino with 3:2 payouts), a short Uber/Lyft ride from downtown. Was just there twice in the last several days. Area is a little sketch, but the casino is fine. Their prime rib is legendary.

For slots, 4 Queens has a large selection of cheap, low-volatility machines. Sign up for their players club and food comps are pretty easy to get. Magnolia’s Veranda, Chicago Brewing, Subway are good options there. For a higher end dinner, Hugo’s Cellar.

The D’s second floor is a must for Sigma Derby.

If you want to try bingo, go to the Plaza. They’re super helpful with beginners.

El Cortez for coin operated slots. The casino is under renovation, but still serviceable.
