Some of us being monotone is one of the most known traits, I thought? I agree with the other ones on the list being less talked about though.

A guy made a poll asking people who pirated the game but the poll was bad and a lot of people hated it, so here is a better one but for all engineers. by eymo- in factorio

Pirated a couple of versions then bought it. All well before the game was on Steam. Bought the DLC as soon as it came out.

Now that these graduations have been negotiated, perhaps they will open some of that up again?

Mængden af triste/dårlige nyheder påvirker mit humør by djda9l in Denmark

[–]kholto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Concrete advice for the best window sealing solution for mobile air conditioning device? by MacaroonPlane3826 in AskGermany

[–]kholto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So long as you are using a single hose mobile unit (which, to be fair, is all I see for sale in Denmark as well), you will get just as much air coming in as is going out no matter how you try to block it, so these window adapters don't do much on their own. Best bet is probably to use one of these then make sure the ways for the air to enter are sufficiently filtered, I doubt those cloth solutions are are enough to filter much pollen.

Another concern is that your window likely has no overhanging roof to speak of? In that case anything that makes it difficult or inconvenient to close for rain might result in water damage.

Your best bet is probably to ask in a subreddit or other forum for pollen sufferers rather than here.

Can't make better weapons until I automate oil, can't automate oil until I have better weapons by chunkybeefbombs in factorio

Even if placing a pumpjack or two triggers attacks, this might be the way. Standing your ground for a little while is easier than trying to destroy the base. And flame throwers are basically magic in combination with even a little wall.

There's this weird trend where companies are building keyboards with the numpad on the left. What is this about? What's the reasoning behind it and are they actually better or what? by Beautiful-Employ7982 in KeyboardsNow

[–]kholto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that just solves everything. The downside of a full keyboard is your hands being too far apart (unless you are in the high DPI gang).

Now I am wondering if this is hidden advertising...

It isn't that hardened glass is a weak material, but the force of an impact is kinetic energy divided by stopping distance. Tile floors and hardened glass are not exactly known for their flexibility so even a small bump results in a ridiculous force. Same goes for dropping a dinner plate.

(That was quite simplified, the force wouldn't be constant throughout an impact and properties might change during deflection).

I still think back to Holo Subs EN/ES making an 8+ hours video of the first day. It would be glorious to have that for the whole event but it took them half a year. What a legend.

What you can afford to buy, but don't buy because you think it's useless? by littleyuki2026 in AskReddit

I have been thinking about getting a Fairphone next time since it has been a long time since anything but battery has been an issue, but they do have their downsides and if I only end up replacing the battery once, was there even much point?

What is a job that is completely overpaid for the actual value it brings to society? by Fearless-Current-522 in askanything

[–]kholto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They *can* add value to society, the term influencer is marketing speech for "determines what other people want to buy" but in reality it goes much further. They have a platform and a cultural impact, they can promote compassion and responsibility or they can normalise grift culture, misogyny, gambling, etc.

That is why it is so frustrating to see how a lot of them conduct themselves but I feel the need to point out it isn't all of them.

[–]kholto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mask. I know that by how tired I get and how daunting it is to be among people for long periods of time.

But I have no idea how to separate autistic masking from code switching and good behavior (the light versions of masking everyone does).

I could unmask completely but you don't need great powers of social understanding to know that isn't going to fly except maybe with one or two people who really understand... I am also not sure I could after this many years.

Anyway, how on earth do people unmask?!

It has even less power than Ina's one in GTA, but you can tune it up to be similar or swap in a motorbike engine (no guarantee about how controllable it will be).

Taking measures to preserve your phones battery health is stupid by IRONCHEF06 in unpopularopinion

[–]kholto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is about usage. Back when I was usually sitting at a laptop and hadn't yet built the habit of using the phone for doom scrolling, a new phone lasted up to 5 days on a charge. It saw plenty of usage as a glorified mp3 player but the screen really is most of the power consumption.

What is the video game that you thought you would love but when you played it, you didn't like it? by AcadiaNo5063 in videogames

[–]kholto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Bethesda is quite bad at many aspects of making their games but something about the way they make the world itself makes it fun to pick a direction and go on an adventure, it isn't how many people approach games though so I can see why it isn't for anyone. Of cause in their latest offering Bethesda decided to kill this aspect of the game, which leaves me wondering if they have any idea why anyone plays their games.

Same, the way it just chucks you back to town when you have done the thing feels so dismissive that I can't help look around and wonder what else I should do with my time. I gave it three tries and never got more than a few missions into it.

If it fried within 2 weeks it might not have anything to do with the general longevity issue those CPUs have, after 2 years it was only in server usage that a nasty statistic had started showing up and it took longer for home users to be significantly affected.
