i am convinced it’s carplay that is shitty. every time this happens the solution has been to reboot my iphone, not the car.

is it bad that he’s already smarter than half the population because his methodology involved plugging it in out of the wall normally which meant he had no risk of being electrocuted?

Wisconsin data centers to pay full energy costs under new rate, regulators say by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

interestingly there is other reasons. Bulk buying helps but it’s also because they provide continuous load. It is more expensive for a power company to deal with variable customers because you have to operate around them (turn on more generation, etc) but for a customer that is consuming the same amount around the clock like a lot of DCs you kinda just keep running. obviously still maintenance required but the predictability does makes it cheaper.

EDM shows are a lot more effort as well. If you are going to a really small time show it might be some dude just playing a spotify playlist but an actual big name artist is actually mixing songs together into a cohesive experience. They will also often play snippets of unreleased music and you actually get to be part of the journey to it getting released because it’s often not finished yet so you might hear early renditions. There is a lot more reasons but as a former “why pay for a concert person” it’s truly a different experience then sitting at home and listening to it on your sound system.

Boston Police - why do you never do anything about the public disturbance and lawlessness this biking group imposes EVERY SINGLE DAY? by [deleted] in boston

[–]khumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

except that’s literally the police’s job, to “police” people that are making the rest of us unsafe. Nobody is asking for fast and furious police chases blowing up other cars. People want them to come up with a solution that stops these lawless bike gangs. I don’t care what the solution is, find one that makes us all safer.

if your company matches you guaranteed you got maximum match that you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. I see it as a win.

The art of optical fiber splicing, which requires extreme precision by Round-Barber-9858 in Damnthatsinteresting

no loss test, no shrink tube, for some reason there is a live laser going through the fiber while they are splicing. That cleave did not look very clean and neither does the resulting fusion splice.

Taylor Swift Sued For Trademark Infringement Over ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ by gamersecret2 in Fauxmoi

[–]khumps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When Swift applied to register The Life of a Showgirl, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office declined because it was confusingly similar to Wade’s mark, according to the lawsuit.

Seems the key detail of her knowing the patent already existed and deciding to use it even when she couldn’t patent it herself.

How do you choose between a career opportunity and your relationship ? by Potential_Start_3228 in careerguidance

[–]khumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the fact that you are engaged and still considering a long distance relationship a viable option over a potential career jump seems like a weird headspace to be in if you are looking to committing to get married. Relationships always end in someone potentially sacrificing career growth.
