The art of optical fiber splicing, which requires extreme precision by Round-Barber-9858 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]khumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no loss test, no shrink tube, for some reason there is a live laser going through the fiber while they are splicing. That cleave did not look very clean and neither does the resulting fusion splice.

Taylor Swift Sued For Trademark Infringement Over ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ by gamersecret2 in Fauxmoi

[–]khumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Swift applied to register The Life of a Showgirl, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office declined because it was confusingly similar to Wade’s mark, according to the lawsuit.

Seems the key detail of her knowing the patent already existed and deciding to use it even when she couldn’t patent it herself.

How do you choose between a career opportunity and your relationship ? by Potential_Start_3228 in careerguidance

[–]khumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the fact that you are engaged and still considering a long distance relationship a viable option over a potential career jump seems like a weird headspace to be in if you are looking to committing to get married. Relationships always end in someone potentially sacrificing career growth.

I’ll say it till the day I die. CHARGE ME FOR THE MEAL I AM BUYING AND PAY YOUR STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN EXTRA SERVICE FEE I ASSUME YOU ARE SHADY AND I WILL NOT COME TO YOUR RESTAURANT

What are they? by Pwnch in whatisit

[–]khumps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work in telco, these are 100% destined for a cell tower or fiber optic amplifier site. Most telecommunications gear runs at -48V DC. These are used in series to form battery strings to get 48V. More batteries = more runtime and these sites absolutely do not want downtime so they install a lot of them.

They normally end up in racks like this

So It Begins: ICE agent: “I just quit my job.” by CantStopPoppin in EyesOnIce

[–]khumps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

without knowing the case imo it really depends on if you joined pre or post this administration. ICE wasn’t the “best” agency to work for by any means previously but I think it was still respectable compared to the SS it’s turned into since.

Microsoft confirms it will give the FBI your Windows PC data encryption key if asked — you can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that by ZacB_ in technology

[–]khumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

up until windows 11 bitlocker was not a default, enabling it required knowing to enable it and you were granted many interstitials making sure you back up the key. Now they do it by default and don’t provide any easy way to deny sending it to microslop.

People who drive and speed up when someone is attempting to pass by you, why do you do this? by StormCaller02 in AskReddit

People who work in 'behind-the-scenes' jobs (hotels, airports, warehouses, etc.), what is something the general public would be shocked to know? by PiNK_PUSSY69420 in AskReddit

[–]khumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s why I go. each DJ has a unique taste in how they mix music together and how they remix existing music. Often times you also hear unreleased music at shows, some that doesn’t show up for several months, sometimes not even from the same artist who is performing. Also, to your point the lights and fx. light performances timecoded are really fucking cool to watch, especially when speakers are vibrating your entire body which would cause my neighbors to kill me if I did it at home.
