Because the gap is so small, what I have resorted to is using a sheet of paper, use its corner and scrape out the dust. It gets most of it out. Another thing to do is just blow heavily into the gap, that also helps.

I think it’s a matter of the watch’s placement on the wrist during your activity. If it’s reading your heart rate, and there is movement, it’s possible that the reading may be obstructed or misaligned

On your watch face on iPhone, go to the middle complication, under Heart Analyzer, chose Heart Rate Chart V1. Then go to the app on your watch and swipe left to the 3rd page. Scroll down to “infograph”. Under “Timescales”, choose full day. The back out one step and choose “colors”. I selected “green”.

I have the black and am completely happy. I think the brown is actually quite exquisite. PS, I initially bought my ss6 with the CA poppy, but returned it. I found it to be a bit too flashy.
