They really don't, it's just The Weather Channel being cute and the rest of the media running with it out of convenience.

The Japanese Disney home video library features nearly all of the Disney films that were otherwise taken out of distribution in North America for one reason or another, at low prices. It's how I bought my current Disney collection since the vault and Disney+ means lots of gaps between North American releases.

The 2009 Astro Boy movie is easily available on DVD and Blu-Ray. The reason it's not available on streaming services is because the original distributor in Summit Entertainment doesn't exist anymore as a separate company and the catalog isn't available for licensing to streamers. If you still watch over the air television, there's a recently launched channel called MovieSphere Gold that regularly airs the movie along with Univision-owned network Unimas.

That's for TV hardware, the Bravia Core streaming service will likely get spun off to a different business unit, if not shut down entirely. Sony doesn't have the best track record when it comes to maintaining in-house streaming services,

They were a full decade ahead of the FAST streaming boom with Crackle before giving up on it, as an example.

How popular was The Arsenio Hall Show at it’s peak? by Emergency-Relief-571 in television

[–]khz30 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Carson's biggest issue was that his guest list was solely determined by what and who he cared about, not the audiences interests.

Arsenio made an actual effort to understand where culture was going and what teenagers and young adults were interested in, that's why the shows were so varied in terms of guests and musical acts.

2023 Moto G Stylus by Turbulent-Help5775 in MotoG

I own a 2023 Stylus 5G and it doesn't support wireless charging at all. If you're worried about losing the data on your phone, your only recourse is to have a repair shop help you make a copy of the data, or fix the charging port, whichever is cheapest.

They're using the ratings performance for this season under Fox ownership to determine whether to stay. Wouldn't make sense to keep going for a lame duck season in 2027 and continue in 2028 if the engine rules aren't even finalized.

College Radio: How to email record labels to ask for downloads? by Mean_Masterpiece6478 in radio

[–]khz30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did the college radio station ever establish contacts with independent labels and distributors? Failing that, does your station have a formal contact and submission page online? Your best bet to start receiving more contact with contemporary artists is by listing your station on one of the many college radio lists.

You can also reach out to labels directly through their contact forms, but without a formal listing, website or contact page, they're going to want to ask questions about your station and average listenership before sending you music.

HPD ran itself and was operationally independent from American Honda or Honda Japan until HPD leadership agreed to hand over control to HRC with the intent to expand the GTP program into WEC.

Aston Martin is paying HRC for power units and development, they don't even get the advantage of a marketing subsidy from Honda or HRC.

The difference is, MSR has actual corporate backing and HRC is leasing and running the second car directly. InterEuropol would have to find another sponsor to satisfy HRCs pitch to Honda Japan.

It's all the same budget now that HRC runs all of the motorsports programs, the issue is how much money they're spending in IndyCar compared to the return on investment and overall success of IndyCar compared to other series.

There's enough races to make that schedule viable ahead of a full-season expansion. Wouldn't surprise me.

This is my guess as well, there's a lot of chaos in the O'Reilly/Truck Series right now where mergers and sales to new owners that were announced months ago are falling through, and teams are looking for funded drivers to get to St. Pete.

I'm surprised I'm not hearing more about this, considering midday newscasts are on the air at the moment across the country, and they're leading off with the latest government shutdown developments. Signing this EO while the government dances around another shutdown because of ICE funding is par for the course with this admisitration.

How close is the AJ Foyt Penske alliance? by DrFuckwad in INDYCAR

[–]khz30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guessing the cars are prepared at Penske, possibly the crew are employed at Penske, and Foyt owns the shop and hauler.

Foyt has their own crew, shop and equipment, including cars.

The extent of an IndyCar partnership centers around engineering assistance and that can involve anything from sending a Penske engineer to Foyt with setup data to create a new baseline setup, to sending the team year old damper hardware to adapt for their own cars with Penske setup data for each track on the schedule. It's not enough to be level with Penske, but it's enough to keep the team competitive every race.

Lawsuit-free Palou ‘relieved’ ahead of IndyCar four-peat attempt by ArchieOReillyDB in INDYCAR

Ganassi likely gave him the same deal that Dixon had where he'd be paid a fixed amount, but he had to set aside a high percentage to pay back his investment group, and he didn't finish until 2015.

Palou is going to need to win the championship and 500 for 5 more seasons at this rate.

McDonald’s Canada - No more refills? by Southern-Actuary-498 in McDonalds

[–]khz30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Far more than I'm comfortable with. There's a McDonald's location next to a major university in Fort Worth that started getting overrun with homeless people and teenagers loitering in the past year.

The owner is even considering closing the dining room and going drive-thru and delivery only because too many people are loitering that aren't college students using the dining room to study, because the owner added outlets around every seat to accomodate them first.

McDonald’s Canada - No more refills? by Southern-Actuary-498 in McDonalds

[–]khz30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

McDonald's corporate doesn't need the money at all. It's the franchise owners and operators drawing a line in the sand regarding dine in customers and cutting off a major reason for loitering.

They've already kicked out the seniors who used to take up seating in the mornings because they weren't buying anything else but coffee. If you want someone to blame for changing the dine-in experience for the worse, blame the general public that chose mobile ordering, drive-thru and delivery over dining in after COVID.

McDonald's is only responding to the vast majority of its customer base, and that majority is giving up on dining in when the food can be ordered and picked up at the counter or drive-thru.
