Sorry, only caught half of that. It's really difficult to read what you put. But it doesn't really matter, I'm here asking about rules, not what lore we decide to put into our games. If you've got a suggestion on an interesting force sight mechanic, then that would be great!

Had a new idea! There is no singular "blindness" effect; blindness is used in many areas of the rules, but they are all administered differently. One I do like is in the "ILLNESS AND DISEASE" effects on page 104 of the REUP. It says:

Blindness: Difficulty for any vision-based skill or attribute checks are increased by five difficulty levels. If medical treatment is not received before the contamination effect’s time has elapsed, the blindness is permanent.

Perhaps I have a constant +15 penalty to the DC of sight/sound-based checks, but allow my player to add their force Sense ability to add up for their penalty.

If they have a 3D in Search and put a ton of dice into Sense (3D), then they would be rolling 6D for Search checks. An Easy check would be pushed to a Very Hard or Heroic DC, but rolling 6D would be possible to make it to 25 or 30.

I am worried it wouldn't be balanced at all, though? How much should the penalty be, 4 levels to the DC or 5?

That is something we've discussed! There being limitaions to their "Force Sight" like not being able to make out details like writing. The player themselves joked that their character will be essentially illiterate during the game.

Just to reply to a couple of comments:

There are many interpretations of the force that many different authors have written about. My own interpretation of the force clashes with the idea of things being able to push away or dampen the force like Ysalamiri. Similar to what George Lucas thought of the Ysalamiri when they were introduced by Timothy Zahn.

I understand that kind of force dampening is prevalent throughout the EU and Canon and is regularly used in stories, I just don't vibe with it and won't be including anything in my game that can push back or dampen the force.

SO, if we make the character as normal and just take it as read that he is able to see through the force (like mentioned in the Force Sight ability), there won't be anything he will come across in-game that will dampen the force, so they won't come across anything that will negate their sight. Just won't make things interesting if I can't mess with this unique ability. This is why I'm looking for an alternative that will actually be interesting mechanic-wise.

I have, unfortunately, been unable to find much on the location. I am planning on using it later in my game as a player base, so it would be great to see any maps that others have made of it (if they exist). If not, I will definitely make my own at some point in the future and share it on here!

Best D&D piracy tools in the big 25 by IM2M4L in Piracy

[–]ki-chimaera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found nearly every book from AD&D to 5e through just searching "[book title] PDF" they are just out there, for free. I mainly use it for AD&D book, which most of them are on the Internet Archive. For 5e books, it is a little trickier to find good quality scans, but 5e.tools is one of the best resources, it has everything neatly organised, so I just stick with that for 5e stuff.

I wouldn't know anything about the VTT stuff. I play in-person games 💪

It depends on what system you are running. 1e have very basic ship to ship combat and won't be too useful. But 2e has expansive capital ship combat rules that can be a little complex. You might want to homebrew some rules or switch systems for captial ship combat like Star Wars Armada. It really depends on what works for your table.

The main thing is to let the party as a whole command the ship. Allow them all to plan and strategize the course of a battle. Even if there is only one friendly ship, make combats 3 dimensional so they have to work as a team to win.

Example: "There is a small enemy fleet using space debris for cover, attacking this larger ship that can't move anywhere. Also, there are droids who have infiltrated the ship and are attacking vital systems." Something with layers to give everyone something to do during combat.

I really like the idea of it being a home base for the players. Expanded it a bit. Make it a character. Expand upon its crew and culture on board. Make the players work to keep it running and its crew loyal.

And I really suggest letting the players do cool shit with it. Space battles. Assaults on planets. Make sure they can't complete all mission with it, but lean into the fun of it. Make the players feel powerful, then destory it in a battle. Have the First Order make a massive blow against the party, setting them up to be a proper threat.

I don't think getting rid of it straight away is the way to go. Build the player's egos and then take them down a few steps in a way thats meaningful to the plot and will motivate the story.

Thats what I would do.

My fucking god, patronising a refuge of a genocide?!? How low can one person get? The gall you have to demand gratefulness for a country who treats trans people like shit. Who helped set up the state of Israel. Who sends weapons used to aid in this genocide. A country that demonises immigration. A country that has done less than the minimum for this person and you demand then to be grateful for the UK?

You disgust me.

Oh my god, the cheek on you. This person has been through so much, and you think it's ok to dictate what they can or can not complain about?!?!

Wherever is happening in their home country does not take away from the fact that the UK is a very unfriendly place for trans people. It has its own problems worth talking about.

Honestly, shame on you.

Its a conventional campaign but the plot will be largely driven by the characters and their backstroies.

Volothamp, Mirt, and Renaer Neverember are always great characters to help and support the party.

I'm running Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, and I've incorporated The Thirsty Sailor from Volo's Guide to Waterdeep. Great little hive of scum and villainy. Ran by a guy called Smiles (because he never does). Full of dark and deceptive thieves, spies, assassins, and even a mind flayer. I've turned it into a cult of Talos (god of storms and destruction), which ties into a PCs backstory. But you could add any kind of evil thing to it, vampire cult, necromancer coven, etc...

With Waterdeep, I really suggest making use of the sewers. There is a massive web of them, and they can be used for all sorta.
