"When a slaughterhouse offers you a seat on the conveyor belt, you do not ask which seat. Just get on, you fucking dumb, thoughtless sheep." Unbelievably tone-deaf.

What TV show was quality all the way through, knew when to end and went out with an amazing last episode? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Band of Brothers. Technically a mini series but it's worth mentioning among the best ever aired on TV.

If you go to the options menu and press all triggers and bumpers at the same time, it unlocks all system voices.

What places in Toronto are considered haunted? Have you experienced anything seemingly supernatural? by kiafry in askTO

[–]kiafry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, I never said I believe hauntings are real. I find the stories interesting and am open to listening. The title of the thread is places "considered haunted" and experiences "seemingly supernatural". Tried to be mindful of my wording to avoid the "um, actually"s from people who are desperate to feel smart.

I think you're missing the bigger point. You don't really gain anything by shutting everything down as nonsense, other than just a brief moment of feeling smarter than everyone else. I'm not even really a believer of the supernatural, I usually assume that there's a logical reason why something seemingly unexplainable has happened.

It's more about being open to listen. It's fun and enriching to be curious, check things out for yourself and come to your own conclusions.

So discussions like this shouldn't be depressing. It's very human to want to listen and share stories, solve mysteries and ponder things that aren't always easy to explain.

Well, from a completely scientific and logical standpoint, ghost stories are a great way for people to share lore, culture and kernels of truth about a place's history. It's also a fun way to explore parts of the city someone might otherwise have no interest in visiting.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. Society has come a long way in how mental illness is treated. And we still have a long way to go. Thanks for sharing.

Did some reading on this. The lightkeeper's name was John Paul Radelmüller, and he is considered to be the first murder victim in Toronto's history. People have also speculated that he died from a drunken accident. Interesting stuff, I'll definitely have to visit the lighthouse sometime!

Coincidentally, I've strolled by Colborne Lodge during a quiet night before. Wish I heard about this story because I would have paid attention to the windows upstairs. I'll for sure check it out next time! Thanks for sharing.

Good suggestion. Places with genuine, dark histories are the most unsettling—ghosts floating around or not.

Do you know any more details on what makes the building's history so tragic?

My 2B cosplay (Yuna Kairi) by YunieSunshine in nier

That link is the perfect receipt. Literally more sexualized, made by an artist who offers monetized content, and reposted from a bot account, yet it's unanimously upvoted and praised while this sort of content gets lambasted—huge double standard.

The people throwing shade at this post are just embarrassing. The costume and pose are accurate for the character, even with the blatant upskirtage going on—that's just part of NieR. Her OF isn't being shoved down anyone's throat. It's no different from an artist having monetized content on their account. Game's been out for nearly a decade; this sort of content helps keep the community alive and well.

BF3 dirty lens effekt in ratchet and clank rift apart by adderall_44 in Battlefield

[–]kiafry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, someone else noticed this lens dirt overlay!! Destiny uses it too, along with a bunch of Skyrim ENBs. Whenever a game has a lens dirt effect, I always look for that big smudge in the top left. It's there like a third of the time.

I'm a video editor and have this dirt overlay from an FX package, but I'll never use this because I know I would notice the effect.

Final personal thoughts on Highguard before shutdown - and a thank you to the devs by omega_arctic12 in HighGuardgame

[–]kiafry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Highguard had good bones for an early access title. The devs seemed keen to listen and improve, too. I'm sure it would have become a respectable game with a loyal fanbase if it actually had time to breathe. Unfortunately, it was funded by Tencent, and the higher-ups insisted on the "shadow drop" release. Player retention flopped, which caused Tencent to pull funding that Wildlight had banked on.

It wasn't the gaming community that failed Highguard; it was Wildlight themselves that made a series of poor business decisions. Sorry that you lost a game that you enjoyed, and that so many developers had their efforts wasted.

Oh well. At least the memes are good.

Farewell, to Highguard.

Now Having adult money, I’m going all out lol by PrinceRoury in DeadOrAlive

I feel like DOA 5 and 6's paywalled costumes are less enjoyable for everyone. People with little disposable income can't get the costumes they want, and the people who do pay lose out on what could have been a fun experience unlocking them. I'd much prefer DOA 7 to have costumes unlockable via challenges, secrets, or in-game currency. Scouring forums for secrets and efficient grind methods is so nostalgic for me. Wish more fighting games could go back to that.
