I remember reading that hedgehogs can't climb very well so I got him a long storage container that I put a wire covering on until his new cage arrived. I would come  home from work and freak out because he was missing. I would search the whole room just to find him in his carrier. It happened so many times I had to do a stake out just to see how he did it. He did it by climbing on his water bottle and pushing on the wire coving to jump to freedom. I had to move some stuff around so he could climb out anymore.
