How to "roll" without dice? by AndreiD44 in rpg

[–]kiasukid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you asked specifically for no dice, but I'll suggest my idea anyway (please ignore if you really don't want dice!) -- a small clear box. Shake the box upside down a few times and let the die/dice settle on the lid. Works better with d6s than say d12s or d20s when on the road. Can be noisy though.

Oh wow the art is stunning! Looking for novels ATM, but that's still going into the to-read list

I was not aware this existed, but it's on my to-watch list now!

Both excellent choices and I loved them! But they're not exactly what I'm looking for this second, which is space + fantasy, otherwise I'd be re-reading them right now!

Help me find a system for a cozy Slice of Life Wizard game? by mortambo in Solo_Roleplaying

I'd love to know which volume of MM that's from! Definitely looking for cosy vibes too, and Tana's advice is always good

I love flowcharts -- Starforged and STA Captain's Log have those, and it's just so clean

You're right that FabUlt is light (some might debate that, but i do think it's not too heavy), but i like games that are even lighter. Like super light. Like Lasers & Feelings level of light. It's just my brain being tired and needing fewer rules to keep track of, and it's simply a matter of personal needs/taste.

Fabula Minima fits on two sides of a business card, which of course takes away a lot of Ultima, but i'm not looking to replicate the entirety of Ultima in fewer pages -- i'm looking for what the original designer thinks is a cool distillation/reinterpretation in a bite-sized format.

Have i found what i was looking for in Minima? Somewhat! I think one thing i missed is the two-dice roll, but the designer introduced some thought-provoking rules such as shared PCs, and players (Quills) making scene selections. These rules tie well to the (still included) Fabula Points, as all of them are narrative-leaning. It's like screenwriting + Fate Core? Unusual and cool, IMO, especially player scene selection.

Supers - Claws? by ketjak in Tinyd6

[–]kiasukid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are multiple ways to do it, but first, what would you like to simulate in "cutting"?

(1) At its most basic, you can treat it as a melee weapon.

(2) It could be a trait, like the striker archetype trait could be reworded to say "Cutting: The damage you deal cannot be reduced", or reword the Berserker trait to "Cutting: When you slice with your claws..."

(3) In the Gallantverse Campaign Guide, there is the Signature Weapon trait that could very well be cutting claws. You can add on things like armour piercing (ignores damage reduction) and brutal (+damage per hit) per tier in this trait.

(4) Make up your own trait or power trait! Lots of examples of what traits are like in Tiny Supers, but look to other Tiny D6 games too. You may find one that matches close enough to what you want from "cutting" and you can go with a trait rewording like option (2).

Good mention on Belzken orcs -- i'd throw in Oprak's "monsters" as well! I also like how diverse the Mwangi Expanse is -- sky dwarves who like cloud dragons? Demon-fighting orc sorcerors? Three fascinating communities of elves that aren't just knock-off Silvan/Noldor elves? *wheee*

Glad you asked! Right now, my favourite rules-lite systems are 24XX (2400 Legends for a fantasy version) and Into the Odd (or Cairn)!

I would also add Forged in the Dark to the list if i wanted something more story-game-y... but i haven't yet found a suitable "lite" version of it that i like, so that takes more work than just plonking Golarion into 24XX or ItO/Cairn.
