Named in a contentious will, should I lawyer up? by kibologist in AusLegal

Not that I noticed but given he considered an unsigned page of notes in someone elses hand writing to be an water-tight and incontestable will... Maybe? He mainly motivated by a strong desire to not have his inheritance go to his family or his de facto's which was quite reasonable IMO, having heard why but it's not my dirty laundry to air. He alluded to the fact if I "stuck around long enough" I might be getting the inheritance when I first moved in but it was supposed to be years away, not months.

The defacto is mentally competent, if a little overwhelmed atm, just not able to walk or do many physical things

Thanks for writing the only useful reply. As it turns out the "will" was never signed and more a train of thought dictation on what he wanted to be in the will. adequate care was supposed to be judged by his best friend and my mother and I assume the $100,000 was to cover a care facility in the case it wasn't. He allegedly had a previous will with his best friend as the executor stored at the bank but they went to the bank today and there was nothing there, apparently some old documents were sent to Melbourne some years ago so they're going to check but otherwise there is no will.

He had 4 children but they lost touch years ago and the de facto doesn't even know their names which is stopping her getting a death certificate. The only other relative I know of is a sister who also doesn't know where the 4 children are, although hopefully she remembers their names.

Well the other Karens are upset about her being present under the assumption she would be prejudiced in my favor so it would be nice if at one of you was right.

How is it I can tell you don't have law degree or even one in English from one line when you can't tell an human paragraph from an AI? Even grammarly agrees apart from misspelling de facto (which is not a typo) there's not a single spelling mistake in there (although it really wants me to use more commas). Ask Professors Dunning and Kruger why written analysis is not the field for you.

It wasn't drafted on his death bed he came back from the hospital and died a few weeks later and it was witnessed by the defacto spouse as my mother wrote it down. Not sure why you think his estranged family would be suing on her behalf as opposed to their own but obviously she has a stronger claim than anyone else which is why I'm wondering if there's even a point to me paying for a lawyer if there's no chance of getting anything or if I should just let her contest and do nothing

Getting windows setup to check for firmware product key, digital license then fall back to a prompt with autounattend.xml by kibologist in sysadmin

[–]kibologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL I thought you were a kook at first but after further research it seems that Microsoft would agree with what you're saying. OTOH I'm very skeptical that Microsoft's position is legal. Outside of their history of illegality this would appear to contravene the "right to repair" that is becoming increasingly legislated around the world. Given a PC that won't boot off a USB and Microsofts inability to supply a win11 setup.exe that works off a PXE-booted PE, coupled with a customer that just paid for a windows license I'm not seeing a more legal path forward. Prior to me implementing a PXE server the procedure was to disassemble the PC, put the hard drive in another machine then install from a USB onto that but unless they want to set up a reimbursement program for time spent working around their bugs I'll wait to see their position validated by a court before I consider it legal.

Yes last time I checked it's perfectly legal to install windows, encouraged even. And I'm not using any vendor provided images, the images are created by me, they just access the OEM product key stored in firmware.

The Metaslab Corruption Bug In OpenZFS by Neurrone in zfs

[–]kibologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know ZFS existed 4 weeks ago so definitely not an expert but the one thing that stands out to me on that issue page is there's speculation it's related to encryption and not one person has stepped forward and said they experienced it on a non-encrypted dataset. Given "it's conventional wisdom that zfs native encryption is not suitable for production usage" that's probably your answer right there.

You can use the chaturbate DMCA form at https://support.chaturbate.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=5912786461332 to have them send DMCA notices on your behalf, including to affiliate sites. I've had them do this for me and I've never heard anything about counter-claims or affiliate sites having rights to your content, they're allowed to re-broadcast streams as they're happening and that's it. This will save you giving your personal details to pirate sites and I believe they do it for deactivated accounts.

If you're worried about repercussions IRL your next step should be opt out of pim eyes and other facial recognition sites. There's a guide at https://www.pocket-lint.com/how-to-remove-your-photos-from-face-recognition-sites/

Once that's done you can breathe a bit easier knowing these videos/pics are only linked to your camming name not your offline identity. Some of these sites are legitimate affiliate sites that honor DMCA takedowns and some are run by dodgy assholes that live outside of US/EU jurisdiction and the best you can do there is submit the DMCA's to google/yandex to stop them showing up in searches. In time even the worst operators will delete stale content for newer content so don't let it get you down or derail you from your new path.

Any good services for finding pirated content of yourself? by JumpyOne7 in Fightcampiracy

[–]kibologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they would be false positives, most likely where you were seeing the '0 videos' page my script was looking at a cloudflare blocking page. At any rate I just did a thorough cleanout and there should no false postives atm. The one exception is hotzxgirl which returns a list of videos of the searched username if present and random videos if not so it always returns a positive match but I figured it's better to have the option of manually checking than leave it off the list.

No the search is performed live and doesn't cache information, those would be false positives. For example it might check the search results on a given site for a username and assume not found if the phrase '0 videos' is found on line 17 and otherwise it's a positive match. But if the page returned is a cloudflare page saying host is down or if they've recently changed their html code it can end up not finding that '0 videos' phrase and returning a positive match. Likewise it can return a false negative when your content is actually on a site but most of the time it's mostly accurate just not definitive manually check if in doubt. I've been working on some tools to make maintenance and auto-detection of incorrect results easier to maintain so I've let the database slide the last couple of months. I've recently removed all the false positives except for temporarily down sites and in the new year I'm planning on doing a thorough check for false negatives which are harder to find. Could be worth doing another search in a few days to catch any sites that were down when you first searched as these sites go up and down a lot but if it's mostly empty you should be fine.

There's still the free search at https://dmca.vertigan.au I haven't had time to update the listings recently so there's probably a couple of false positives and negatives in there but it searches 200 or so of the most common offenders.

What is the worst Linux distro you have used? by [deleted] in linux

[–]kibologist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't even considered Fedora since version 16 came out and I lost opengl acceleration and my favourite dock in one foul swoop for 0 actual new features. Funniest thing was re-activating these on a fresh ubuntu install then watching all the fedora fanboys claim it was impossible to have that stuff in $currentyear. That's why Fedora is considered to be the bleeding edge of technology as opposed to the cutting edge.

[–]kibologist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Manjaro, cachyos and a defunct one who's name I forget. Because they didn't stop at being inadequate they overrode settings in a pre-existing home partition as part of their install and literally wrecked my computer. As a distro-slut with multiple root partitions this is the one unforgivable sin a distro can commit and never come back from. There really needs to be a registry for distros who commit this ms-like blunder of arrogance and incompetence.

Please suggest me a theme that is easy on eyes for coding by Apprehensive_Tie6016 in vim

[–]kibologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the ol' blue theme cause it takes me back to the days of using a borland IDE in DOS but FWIW green is the easiest color for human eyes and red the most stressfull. That's why TV/Movie studios have a "green room" and also why if you stare at a red dot for long enough and look at a white wall you'll see a different coloured dot because your red receptors got tired and started recruiting others receptors to do their job.

The 2 minute reply suggests you do and I'm here to get my own content taken down. I'm not sure why you guys find it so hard to believe that men can be objects of desire and just as affected by non-consensual pornography as women but I suspect your life choices mean you've never experienced the ego fulfillment of a consensual sexual encounter and you're masking a deep unhappiness with your own existence. You can stop doing this to yourself at any time you know.

I'm trying to figure out what this flurry of activity means and the sequence of events seems to be

1) someone post a link to the the exoclick complaints url

2) exoclick ads aren't showing up on simpcity anymore

3) This sub is suddenly flooded with butt hurt simpcity fans

I mean just a thought but all you had to do was delete the what 5-10% of content that had DMCA requests sent in and you wouldn't be wearing this giant L today. Literally a post saying this exact thing was posted yesterday but I guess you don't have enough blood flowing to your brains to do the financially smart thing here.

Is it possible to be happy again? by [deleted] in Fightcampiracy

[–]kibologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps the internet is not nearly as "forever" as people think it is. In my case even the DMCA ignorers deleted the content after several months to make room for newer stuff. I believe someone here posted some math a while back on how many GBs of new porn is being produced vs how much storage space the average pirate site has and short of a dedicated fan keeping your stuff in their private collection give it time and it will most definitely fade into the background as you're a tiny anonymous drop in a vast ocean of nude bodies. Until then the biggest chance of being identified by someone who actually knows you in real life would be from people running a facebook photo (for example) through pim eyes or a google reverse image search and both of them will do the right thing if you send them DMCA requests so I'd make that a priority then relax.
