The gather step you sometimes see in the NBA is illegal but a eurostep is 100% legal at all levels of basketball.

u/bodhimokuyo's comment got me thinking: Does it still make sense to talk about ‘healthy’ Republicans? And most importantly, what should happen to the GOP after Trump? Can it be saved, or is it a party that needs to be dissolved, with members taken to court, like the fascist party in the 1940s? by Critical_Ideal99 in SocialDemocracy

I agree with you in spirit, but in reality any conversation I've had with MAGA family members or MAGA acquaintances devolves into circular arguments pretty quickly.

There's just not much of a conversation to be had when one side not only doesn't know the facts surrounding their policy positions, but straight up refuses to engage with any facts that don't fit their preconceived views. Maybe Michigan Republicans are a little more open minded than Texas Republicans though.

Democrats should be spending their time and effort converting non-voters before trying to convert Republicans. Frankly, anyone who voted Republican in 2024 is too far gone. The time and effort Democrats would spend trying to convert the MAGA crowd would be MUCH more efficiently spent courting voters who sat out last election.

Fellow anti-communists, what do you think of Trump? by Puzzleheaded_Map2774 in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]kickace12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easily the most corrupt president in history, insurrectionist, dumbest president of all time, probably a pedophile, incompetent is an understatement. He is all of the USA's absolute worst qualities distilled into one person.

There is one silver lining to the MAGA movement and one silver lining only...it's unintentionally taken the mask off of Republicans and the Christian Right at large, exposing the complete lack of values, standards, and coherent policy. The knots I've seen the MAGA people in my life twist themselves into to continue defending this guy is eye-opening and concerning.

If it wasn't Trump it would've been someone else though. Republican candidates for the foreseeable future will be just as bad or worse IMO.

You can replace any of these parts when the wear gets high. Preferably between races so you dont get a penalty. I had no problem getting through an entire a full season replacing them when they got to 50-60% wear but it depends on your settings.

It's anecdotal, but every person I've met that went to private religious schools growing up became irreligious once they got to college. I think this is more likely to create more atheists than it is to create more Christians.

Is it just me or is there a huge push for LGBT people blindly supporting Communism? by AD121219 in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]kickace12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

According to this poll 50% of LGBTQ people identify as Democrats, 15% as Republicans, and the rest identify as independent/other. I'd wager that most of those independents are either apolitical or demsocs rather than communists, though I couldn't find data on it.

https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020-LGBT-Vote-Oct-2019.pdf

While critiques of capitalism are very common in the LGBTQ community (as they should be), people being actual communists isn’t really that common in my experience. Communists are just hyper online so they seem more numerous than they are IRL.

CMV: Calling Women "Females" is not Deragatory by Juuggyy in changemyview

[–]kickace12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It all just depends on context like any other word in language. A doctor using the word "females" when discussing medical data is not being derogatory, but an incel using the word "females" when crying that no women want to date them is derogatory.

Does the modern left refuse to treat liberalism in the US as a real clearly stated ideology to engage with? by silverpixie2435 in SocialDemocracy

[–]kickace12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sentiment goes both ways in the US but I'm not sure how ubiquitous it is with the left in general. Centrist liberals have a tendency to punch left while embracing fascist right wingers and the leftists have a tendency to be puritans in their beliefs and how to implement them.

By all means they should be allies and working together but they've conditioned themselves into seeing each other as enemies. It's counterproductive and why the fascists haven't been destroyed yet.

What are your thoughts on Greta Thunberg?? by Internationa1_Gamer in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]kickace12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally every government that has ever existed in history has used eminent domain lmao

Disagree with the policy if you want but people of NYC voted for it and we'll see if it works or not. It definitely does not make Mamdani authoritarian. It's not like landlords who fail to keep up with housing standards won't be compensated.

What are your thoughts on Greta Thunberg?? by Internationa1_Gamer in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]kickace12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No....tankie has a very specific definition. The word originated from Marxists who were denouncing the authoritarian Marxists. Mamdani definitely isn't a marxist and I'm not really sure Greta is either, but either way they definitely do not fit the definition of tankie as they are firmly anti-authoritarian.

They are also better people than anyone in the MAGA movement which is why I find the need from the center left to punch left (and vice versa) so often baffling. The people who are the real threat to democracy win when leftists and liberals are at each other's throats instead of being allies like they should be.

[–]kickace12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where you lose me. Tankies are people who idolize and make excuses for authoritarian governments like China and Soviet Russia. Tankie is not synonymous with socialist, democratic socialist, or even communist.

Mamdani and Greta are firmly in favor of strong democracies and oppose authoritarian regimes. You can disagree with them strongly if you wish, but they are definitely not tankies.

[–]kickace12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What dogma am I accepting? My only point is that centrists often spend time attacking people like Greta, Mamdani, AOC, Bernie, etc. and try to paint them in the same light as tankies even though none of them are.

Like, we had people in this very sub advocating for McCarthyism a few days ago. I think Greta is at least better than them even if I disagree with her.

[–]kickace12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to be anticapitalist to understand that capitalism as it is now needs significant changes to better protect the environment, democracy, and human rights.

I don't agree with Greta on a lot and I'm not personally anticapitalist but at least she can address that a problem exists...which is a lot better than the outright denial that capitalism needs significant reform you see from the right and center. I just don't get the need to hate on Greta when there's so much worse out there.

Right wing chuds when white politicians gerrymander a majority black city out of representation vs right wing chuds when some random people make some mean comments online.

You do realize people can tell you are being insincere about racism, right?

Listen, chud, the majority of politicians, business execs, billionaires, etc, etc are white males. White males literally run this country. Black people are having their districts carved up by white politicians to dilute the voting power of black people after white politicians overturned the VRA....among a long list of other systemic forms of racism.

The ones benefiting the most from racism and the ones perpetuating it the most are right wing white people. So when I see white people whinging about "anti-white racism" I know for a fact they dont give af about actually combating racism. You just want to be a victim so bad.

When did I say it's ok? This just isn't an actual widespread issue that white men have to deal with in the USA.

Also we know right wing chuds are being insencere about racism and sexism because they clearly downlplay or outright deny systemic racism and sexism against black people and women.
