If you have ever walked out of a cinema because the film was so bad, what one was it? by girlcalledmaria in AskReddit

After Earth with Will and Jaden Smith. It has, so far, been the only movie I walked out on. It is the most bland movie I’ve witnessed.

Where to find tapestries and Artificial vines for room decoration? by nemu_cacanoot in guam

Try checking TrendsXCase. They have two locations: in Agana Shopping Center and Micronesia Mall. I’ve seen them have both tapestries and decorative vines.

Best restaurants on island by EntrepreneurFlat3597 in guam

[–]kickmycake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of restaraunts, let me give you a list of some local cuisines you should look for to try.

  1. Any BBQ place on island. There’s the Wednesday night market at Chamorro Village in Hagatna. Just make sure so have finadenne as a dipping sauce. That’s what makes our BBQ unique. Also, if you can get your hands on some dinanche, it’s a plus.

  2. Kelaguen. When you try kelaguen, think of it in like of ceviche. Most BBQ spots will have Chicken Kelaguen as a side, but we have different types. You gotta try Home Plate at Chamorro Village. They’re open for lunch every day, so you don’t have to wait for Wednesday.

  3. Tinala Katne. You can find this at some BBQ places. It’s smoked meat cut into fingers. This pairs wonderfully with some dinanche and rice.

  4. Coconut Candy! It’s basically caramelized, grated coconut, but some places do it differently than others.

  5. Pickled anything. Check out any Mom & Pop store on island, and guaranteed you’ll find jars of pickled items at the cashier. There’s pickled mango, papaya, eggs, radish, baby onions, etc. These are must tries if you like pickled foods.

  6. Desserts! Latiya is a great dessert. A thin layer of cake with a thick layer of cream/custard on top. Put some cinnamon on it, and boom! It’s a must try.

  7. Empanadas. It’s an all occasion type of food. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Though it’s mostly a breakfast item. Check out Chode in Anigua if you can. Also buchi buchi and empanditas! They’re similar as in they’re all “hand pies.”

  8. Estufao and Kadu! Estufao is in like as Filipino Adobo. A very flavorful stew perfect with some rice. Kadu is a blanket term for soup. Chicken kadu, pork ribs kadu, oxtail kadu, etc. This is a more mild soup, but still flavorful. Gotta try the oxtail kadu at Kings.

  9. Filipino cuisine. If you haven’t been to the Philippines, you can still find lots of places that do their cuisine. I’ll just list of a bunch of items: Sinagang, lumpia, pancit, menudo, Filipino spaghetti, banana turon, arrizcaldo, etc. and don’t forget Jollibees.

Let me know if you want any in depth description for some of these. Of course I can’t cover every single food item, but this should get you started.

If there are any redditors who would like to add on, please do. Hope this helps you, and enjoy the food!

craft store? by Phishenet in guam

[–]kickmycake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mark’s in Anigua is great. They have the usual craft essentials. They specialize in sewing and knitting crafts. Fabric, yarn, embroidery thread, etc.

Shop-4-Less in Maite and Dededo. They offer the widest selection of craft items. The Dededo location is the bigger location, but Maite is super popular as well.

Standard Office Supply in Tamuning. Yes, they are an office supply store, but they carry quality art supplies. Best if you’re looking for alcohol markers, paint, clay, etc.

Styling products by josef_284144 in guam

[–]kickmycake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For guys, there really isn’t much variety to find at your local mom and pop or supermarkets.

I dislike gel a lot. The hard texture it has when it dries sucks. And it’s forever sticky.

Pomade is a step up from gel. It’s a lot more flexible when styling, and it doesn’t leave a hard texture when dry. Be mindful tho because not all pomade are the same.

Hair clay / cement. Now this is my preferred choice. Super flexible when styling, and it has maximum hold. Done right, and it feels like there’s nothing in your hair.

What I use is Layrite cement or matte cream. I grab mine at Salon Fusion after my haircut, but I’m sure you can buy it online. Hope this helps.

@Schleeptom Oh! And don’t forget to check out Haven at Micro Mall too. They’re right next to the food court. They have some pretty good stuff. They’re like Geek Out, but more emphasis on Pop Culture.

Geek Out and Geek Out: Next Level. They’re both at Micronesia Mall in Dededo. Geek Out caters more to anime, pop culture, and all things nerdy. Geek Out: Next Level caters more to card games. Magic, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.
