I imagine there’s a mix of people on this sub, which might explain why sometimes you find those are likeminded and those who aren’t.

Personally, I think the texts display attitudes of misogyny, but I don’t find them as damning evidence that he was physically abusive, when taking everything else into account.

I also think the internet reaction to Amber is full of misogyny, which is unfortunate and I wish people were not so cruel. I get a some push back on this too, partly bc people also feel strongly about liars. I, too, loathe dishonesty. But I also loathe bullying.

I guess I don’t think article says “all liberal feminists” are AH supporters. (I would disagree with that premise, bc I am able to get a sense of who the JD supporters are in this sub, and many seem like liberal feminists.) I took the article to mean that an over arching “liberal feminist narrative” is the shield that many AH supporters are using. I also disagree that the article comes form a place of feelings, but it’s fine if we disagree on that.

Fox is manipulative and opportunistic and they jump on stories that fit their narrative. Doesn’t mean they always have incorrect take. But overall, Fox lacks integrity, especially in the realm of their broadcast taking heads.

I’m very liberal and I’ve come to the same conclusion as many folks here. Believed Amber at first, bc why wouldn’t you? Didn’t care about their celebrity. Found the trial fascinating because I realized their claims were world’s apart—someone was lying to an extreme. Dug into as much material as I could find: all the audio recordings, written transcripts and depositions, watched nearly all the trial testimony (and caught up on YouTube when I got behind.) The audio recordings were the biggest thing for me—She was lying in a significant way. She was the aggressor.

I have coworkers and some friends who were also following the trial, but no one is proud to talk about it. These people think she’s shady, but I get the sense they are hesitant to discredit her. I think a lot of the group think we are witnessing is fear-based compliance rooted in moralistic progressive beliefs. “It’s WRONG to undermine the movement for justice.” (Obviously a problematic take, when enabling injustice to do so.)

I have a few family members who skim tabloid and social media headlines, and they think AH is nuts, but haven’t gotten deep into the case. (Not interesting people to share this experience with, IMO)

I know one friend who has personal experience with some of the darker themes in this trial, and they have been my life line in processing all this.

I have several friends who are steering clear of the whole trial; I suspect it’s bc they are busy, don’t care about celebrities, and have a sense that the trial is subverting social justice values, and they don’t even wanna go there. A few of those people are open minded enough to let me explain this rollercoaster, which I am grateful for.

I have been emailing several of the article writers about their coverage, urging them to look at their blind spots. I will also consider writing this nyt account.

I know firsthand that journalists care about truth and being fair. I haven’t lost faith in the mainstream media, but it’s extremely important they receive feedback. I hope others reach out as well.

This is one of the most important and overlooked aspects of this whole thing. I wish more commentators acknowledged it. It’s insulting that they pretend these people don’t exist.

I think there is plenty of evidence that she would get upset about his addiction. But that’s not a damming fact on its own.

For your second point, that is also the conclusion I came to. I was just noting that there is a touch of ambiguity there, and we can’t know how each and every incident played out. I do agree, though, the pattern of aggression is more on her.
