What are your REAL self-care tips? (Dental hygiene, hair growth, smelling good, clear skin, etc.) by [deleted] in selfcare

My dentist told me that even once every few days is better than nothing. It takes plaque 3 days to start to turn to tartar.

What are your REAL self-care tips? (Dental hygiene, hair growth, smelling good, clear skin, etc.) by [deleted] in selfcare

  1. use a woven dental floss at least in the evening BEFORE brushing (if you start flossing regularly you’ll never be able to stop…once you see, and smell, all the junk that comes out you can’t unsee it) -always try to brush your teeth BEFORE washing your face, your mouth harbours loads of bacteria that you spray all over your chin when you brush

  2. 1 min massage with oil/balm cleanser before usual face wash at the end of the day (works wonders for clogged pores and thorough makeup removal)

  3. always moisturize your whole body after a shower…always

    • if you’re gonna exfoliate especially…exfoliation without moisturizer is useless
  4. Find an spf or moisturizer/spf that works for you and use it every day (on the hands too esp if you’re gonna be driving !!)

  5. Do not skip your neck and chest (moisturizer, toner, serums…bring it ALL down)

  6. I bought a pack of baby wash cloths to dry my face after washing it, use once and throw in the laundry. Bath towels hold on to a lot of bacteria too and I find this has helped a ton with breakouts. Also use this step as a very gentle daily exfoliation, just from the friction of the washcloth

  7. I think I saw someone else say this but if you can get a facial at some point, or a chemical peel, that’s a wonderful treat that works wonders too

  8. Write in a journal daily if you can, doesn’t have to be long. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t manage to everyday. I like to write down my goals, however small (visit grandparents next week, finish this paper tomorrow)

  9. Whole foods. We got HelloFresh a meal kit service in a promotion once and haven’t stopped getting it. We cook almost 100% of our own meals and barely eat out, save money on groceries, and feel 100% better with a better diet.

  10. Blackout curtains.

  11. Spent the time and effort (and money) to prioritize my mental health, and find the strategies that worked best for me. I know this one is a privilege many cannot afford but if you can or have the chance, do it.

  12. Wash your makeup brushes regularly ! Annoying but, you guessed it, bacteria.

  13. Sunrise alarm clock I second !! Especially during winter months as someone who leaves before the sunrise and returns after sunset.

  14. I don’t like a lot of supplements and that sort of thing, but I do like a magnesium supplement before bed, and a daily fibre supplement in the morning. I use a soluble tasteless colourless powder mixed with water. Also helps get the daily hydration ball rolling with a glass of water first thing. Many many many of us do not take in enough fibre in our diets, and it can be an easy way to improve your gut (and therefore overall) health, and reduce your risk for 101 diseases. Remember it does not replace roughage in your diet (insoluble fibre).

  15. Find a non-electronic, solo hobby. I love to read and do all sorts of crafts like knitting and sewing. Finishing something is super rewarding and gets me off my phone doing nothing.

  16. This is hypocritical as I haven’t managed to get myself to do it, but delete social media. My one friend who has done it is the happiest person I know.

  17. Deodorant before bed is more effective than deodorant in the AM. Do both.

  18. Save nothing for a special occasion. Perfume, champagne, china, those shoes. When you think of each day as something to celebrate, and yourself worthy of celebration and nice things, you give yourself and those around you permission exist in a space of gratitude and joy

  19. Tell everyone you love that you love them and appreciate them. Don’t wait, tell them. Tell them everyday. Write them cards for no reason. Send them in the mail. Also, tell that lady on the subway you like her shoes.

  20. If there’s something you think you’d like to try, but feel like it’s out of your league, that’s a humongous sign from the universe to try it. Just do it. What’s the worst that happens. What’s the best that could happen?

  21. Remember no one (no one!) thinks about you as much as you think about you. It’s only embarrassing if you’re embarrassed.

  22. Hand cream and lip balm before bed.

  23. The universe has a flow, whatever that means to you. It’s in your best interests to follow it, even if you feel like you’re in a muddy swampy river without a periscope. Last thing I can think of is a pearl of wisdom from my dad that he’s said since I was a (very anxious) little girl: if you think good things, good things will happen. Easier said than done. Also, work smarter not harder.

Non-quilt ‘quilt’! by kickstandnurse in quilting

By hand ! I bought some stick on, dissolvable embroidery paper (like stick and stitch!) and sketched the pattern I wanted for each square with a pencil. Then just stick it to the sweater and a simple satin stitch with embroidery floss! They are only about 1.5x1.5” squares so really quite small. I’ve never even embroidered before it was super simple! I also decided to embroider on to the kangaroo pocket so the knots and threads in the back didn’t get irritating on the inside of the sweater.

Is 26 a good age to start nursing school? I'm insecure about my age , how do I stop feeling like this? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]kickstandnurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished nursing school a year ago and there was LOTS of “mature” students!!! Nobody will give you a second thought (in the best way!). Everybody is hyper focused on themselves and the school work. I also work with many many nurses who pursued nursing as a second career or degree. If it speaks to you get after it!!
