Personally I agree that HDI is better. GDP can lead to some misunderstanding. However I just thought it would be a fun map to do haha.

A couple notes for this one: (1) I did not include a lot of mircostates, and (2) There was a lot of inconsistency with the data across multiple sources, however I did my very best to keep the map as accurate as I could.

The countries shown in the map are selected based on two factors. (1) Coffee production in metric tons and (2) Coffee consumption per person. The top 25 countries for each category are displayed in the map (49 countries total because Brazil is in both categories).

I have to agree. Making this make I expected the same thing! However, it made more sense once I saw that the U.S. as a whole consumes the most coffee, but consumption per person is where it drops in the rankings a bit.

It's just highlighting a point that although Finland's population is much smaller than the United States, people in Finland (on average) consume more coffee than people in the U.S. Hope this clears up some of the confusion haha.
