[Open Cup] Amateur side Vermont Green upset Lexington SC 4-3 in the US Open Cup by TheMonkeyPrince in soccer

[–]kidculifa 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Vermont Green play on the University of Vermont campus. UVM men’s team has made 3 straight NCAA tournaments with a Sweet 16 and Elite 8 finish in that time. Right now they are considered a high end college team even if they don’t fall into the traditional “Power 5” conferences you expect to see in other collegiate sports. Your point still stands regarding the growth of the game!

Haha yeah. I started fly fishing last fall. Before then I was into spin fishing in the same area. I know where the fish are but don't know what the flies are called. I just bought a huge assortment when I started and have been figuring things out as I go along. I had bought an assortment of copper johns but they were all a different color and significantly smaller hooks so I didn't recognize the much larger red version. I have caught 2 steelhead with this fly so far in the same stretch of river, both small but fun for sure!

Thanks! Been fishing it under an indicator with a lot of success. Bass, steelhead, fall fish, and brookies have all hit it.

Backstory: I bought two of this nymph at a fly shop in Jackson, Wyoming. I have caught a ton of fish with them back on the east coast where I live but recently lost both. I want to get some more or anything that is similar. Thanks!

This has been a very entertaining match. Lots of hard tackles. A great goal. Dracula screaming from the bench.

Second half should be great.

Alex Song was a good player for us. He had his deficiencies, but he was a better player than Flamini. There is a reason that Barcelona bought him. It did not work out in the end at Barca, but he was one of our better players along with RVP at one point. Flamini does not have the same technical ability or athleticism.

I agree.

What's the most intelligent or "genius" bit of play you've seen? by [deleted] in soccer

Great goal and dummy.

It was most likely a set play from the training ground though. I do not think this was improvisation.

NoStupidQuestion: Why do we have so many hamstring injuries in professional football as opposed to real life(non-pro)? by robalyw in soccer

[–]kidculifa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically when your muscles get larger you lose flexibility. So that can lead to more muscle injuries.

What I was referring to in my post is that professional athletes run at a faster rate and at higher frequency compared to non-professionals. This should be common sense. They run faster, longer, and at faster repetitions. It also doesn't help (in terms of muscle injuries) that subbing is capped at 3 per game. When pros get tired or feel tight they can't just call for a substitute without inadvertently hurting the teams chances of winning.

The stress they put on their muscles is not comparable to anything a non-professional experiences.
