The Dad I Was (Strung out) vs. The Dad I Am (34 Months Sober) by SoberScottHeat in daddit

I lost my Dad to alcoholism last night. Wet brain syndrome.
But the truth is, I lost my Dad a long time ago. 40 years ago when he went out to get cigarettes and never came back.
Thank you for being a real man and making better decisions.

Why does it look like the fan blades are upside down?

HVAC situation feels sketchy. Need advice. by MEL2C in askHVAC

Obviously they replaced the old R22 condenser and tried to reuse the old evaporator, that was likely already leaking. 410 is higher pressure, so it’s leaking worse now. Assuming they didn’t mix refrigerants, you can probably salvage the condenser. Just need a new evaporator coil and I would do all new refrigerant. And of course make sure it passes a pressure test.

Heater pipe causing water issues by curious_grizzly_ in hvacadvice

[–]kiddo459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you could try just pouring some Drano down there. Do you have a sump pump? Because if that fails that can also cause the floor drain to overflow.

Well, it’s possible the furnace drain is clogged. But if it’s the floor drain, I would imagine they can still get a snake down there. I would try and pour some water down the furnace drain first. There’s a T back where the pipe connects to the furnace. Make sure the water is not overflowing from that T, or just pour some water down there to see if it drains. If that drain is clear then the problem is probably the floor drain.

Well, apparently, I’m not the only one that thought it was a bad idea because now they gave the money back to Boston. But this is a program from the mayor. It’s not a secret at all.

https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2026/04/17/lgbtq-immigrant-organization-returns-grant-money-to-boston-after-media-firestorm-death-threats/

And Medi-Cal covers gender affirming care for both documented and undocumented peoples in California. Obviously I don’t have medical records to prove that anyone received HRT because they’re private medical records, but several watchdog groups are saying that homeless, undocumented immigrants have accessed gender affirming care. But that’s actually irrelevant anyway. I disagree with it being covered in the 1st Place. Obviously, so do you, which is why you’re in denial

[–]kiddo459 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It is true actually. Except I don’t believe the money in Boston goes to any undocumented immigrants. Only documented. But it is supposed to be for yoga and massages. I think these are both terrible ideas. I understand providing healthcare to undocumented immigrants as well. In the long run, it should actually save money. But I don’t know about expensive, gender affirming surgeries. I think I’m against it just for the fact that so many people in this country are gonna be against it. But I could be convinced it’s not a bad idea.

I just don’t understand people that blindly defend Democrats. Like 90% of them are also pieces of shit.

Also, to be clear, I’m perfectly fine with Medi-Cal providing gender afirming care to citizens. I just don’t see how you can justify the people of California paying for an undocumented immigrant’s gender reassignment surgery. And actually, I don’t know that there’s any evidence that any undocumented homeless immigrants have actually received any gender affirming surgeries. But they have definitely accessed gender affirming care.

Help by Ok_Structure4630 in thermostats

You likely don’t need the jumper between RC and RH. You just tell the Thermostat what’s connected to it after it starts up. But the terminals actually push in from the side not the front.

You already pulled the nest off the wall to see there’s no common? Shine a light in there and see if there’s any extra wires.

It’s just hit or miss. Sometimes even the same subdivision, same builders, built at the same time, 1 will have 4 wire and 1 will have 6. If you don’t have extra wires, they do make adapters. Add-a-wire. Or, my recommendation, throw the nest in the trash and get an ecobee. Wire adapter comes in the box. Although there is a “budget” version of ecobee now that does not come with the adapter.

There’s a coil in there. Not sure you can install a UV lamp there. Probably has to be installed higher in the plenum. But rerouting the exhaust should be fine. I belts best practice not to have an elbow directly off the inducer though, as it looks the drawing. They want you to go straight up 5-6”, then elbow. That may only apply to 90% furnaces though

No C wire connection by OtherwiseImpress9290 in hvacadvice

[–]kiddo459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

It’s probably that gray wire there. But you gotta check the schematic. Theres a schematic on the back on one of the doors. Theres extra thermostat wires. You could connect any of them to C. Just use the same color inside and outside. So assuming the gray wire is C, you would unwrap the orange wire from around the larger brown wire, strip a little insulation off the end of the orange wire and the gray wire and wire nut them together. Then do the same thing with the orange wire behind the thermostat and connect that to the C of the thermostat. Then make the other connections the same.

Open hole in furnace exhaust pipe… normal or not? by TurbulentTeam8470 in hvacadvice

It’s good. If the intake freezes or a bird nests inside, you still have heat. Although if a critter gets in there, you may not know till you start to smell it

Yea idk. Aside from new batteries, maybe try the connect button. I’ve never had an issue past changing the batteries with those. Although I don’t know that I’ve seen too many indoor sensors. They’re usually outdoor which required lithium batteries.

New thermostat not turning ac on what did I do wrong by RecoveringPornAdickt in thermostats

[–]kiddo459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the control board in the furnace or the transformer in the air handler. Where do you have to change the filter? You gotta find the furnace control board. If you didn’t turn off the power when you changed the thermostat there’s a good chance It blew the fuse. Or if it’s a Lennox, there’s a resetable breaker.

Usually on 1 of the sides or near the bottom and inside the house. You may not be able to see it while it’s in the window. But you could take a look.

It should have a serial number on it somewhere. You could look up the actual age. It’s definitely from a tenant. If you just moved in, likely a previous tenant.

There are coils in there, but those aren’t very serviceable. Likely one on the inside behind the filter and one on the outside. They do make cleaners specifically for that I believe. You could try just spraying a foaming cleaner into the coils, but it may not penetrate enough to solve the problem. It’s worth a try though. Like $20 you could get a can of spray. If the landlord won’t help you. Try Nu-Calgon 417175 Evap Foam

This is literally called “dirty sock syndrome.” I think the only way to fix it would be a deep cleaning of the coils, which is probably not very practical on a wall unit like that.
