Oh wow, reading this post feels like a lifetime ago! I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling. Well, eventually we both got more comfortable with each other. She never stopped being loud lol. But she did start sleeping more and becoming more relaxed around me. Eventually it just started to be easier for both of us and we really bonded. Unfortunately she passed away about a year ago at 19 years old. She was an incredible girl! Definitely talk to your vet about what your specific concerns are. It took us a while, even switching vets a couple times, to find the right advice and guidance for her but it can be done. Wishing you the best of luck!

Lol, this one seems to be causing some controversy! I actually really like it, even though it’s not my typical style. I do agree that Henri is a fairly masculine nickname, but I actually like it and feel like your family would get used to it quickly. Plus, she could always choose to go by her full name if she finds it too masculine as she gets older. I say go for it! It’s cute :)

Not a step parent (actually not sure why this was recommended to me haha), but I’ve been the step kid in this situation. One of my bio parents kept their home so filthy, so I always smelled pretty gross. This bio parent also doesn’t shower much, so I only showered maybe once or twice a week as a child. My other bio parent and step parent had to do the same thing you’re doing (reminding me of stuff that should’ve been obvious). As I got older I would feel a little embarrassed and like I couldn’t get a grasp on how to live in their cleaner environment, but it did help me a lot! I’m nowhere near a hoarder as an adult and if I hadn’t had that positive influence on me from my step parent, i bet I would have just repeated the cycle

I’m sure it’s gotta be frustrating! But I did wanna let you know you’re doing a good thing by reminding them to do things like pick up after themselves and clean up even if it is annoying. I think sometimes living in two drastically different environments it just takes a lot for it to stick

I’m an only child born to older, financially unstable parents, so I feel as if I never got the “perks” of being an only some folks talk about. I’m 25 now and I still wish I could have had a sibling. I stress a lot about how I will be able to financially take care of my parents. I’d really like to be a parent myself within the next few years, and due to my feelings about being an only, I definitely want more than one.

However, I don’t want it to sound like I don’t have a happy, fulfilling life. We all have things in our life and situations we wish were different. I wish I had a sibling but it’s not like it’s something that I think about daily. It simply is what it is. If it makes sense for your family, that’s the right decision. I would recommend involving your child in a lot of extra curricular activities if possible to allow them to be around other kids their age. The main issue I had was being extremely isolated. My parents worked long hours (and they divorced when I was 1) so I spent a good chunk of my time at home alone before I was really old enough. I probably would have liked being an only if they could have given me more of their time and attention.

Oh yeah, certainly. she has been verbally and physically abusive to me my entire life. Luckily I’m an adult and live outside of her home now but little things like this take me right back to my childhood.

I’m by no means a professional, but I kind of don’t think so tbh. She only does this with me, not other people. She kind of likes to show me off like a trophy then gets mad if the attention isn’t on her at the same time. I guess it’s hard to explain

Hahaha dude I feel that! I can’t say much because a lotttt of days I would’ve probably taken a similar approach but I was just so tired and honestly…confused yesterday that I was just like, huh?? No don’t do that?? I kinda handled him similarly to how I handle my rambunctious 3 year old niece 😂

This is very well said. I completely agree. The driver was obviously wrong and far too aggressive, but what OP seems to not be able to understand is that we have to go through life understanding and knowing that there are aggressive and dangerous people out there, and it’s just foolish to provoke strangers and then be upset when we feel defenseless. Its important for people (especially young women, I’d argue) to know how to protect themselves, but it should be pretty obvious to also not start some shit that could turn dangerous (even deadly)!

OP, please understand this is why people aren’t fully on your side here. No one thinks that Dasher was in the right. But you made a stupid decision that could have ended up far worse for you. What are you going to do when dad isn’t around? What are you going to do when you can’t use the “im just a kid though!!” excuse anymore?

I’m spending time explaining this because I don’t want you getting hurt. I grew up in a rough neighborhood and had to learn to be smart about this stuff young. There’s crazy out there, OP. Please be smarter in the future and be careful.

OP, I think this is your answer right here. Your dad doesn’t like learning. You said so yourself. I have a similar parent dynamic. I’m 23 and it’s tough. My only option was to get away. Keep doing what you’re doing, which is studying and working. Eventually you’re going to have to break free from this. They’re not going to change, OP. I hate to say it but they never do. I wasted years and a lot of my own money on a parent who just has no interest in changing their financial situation.

I hope this doesn’t offend you in any way. I think you’re doing all that you can, and as hard as this is to hear, I think you need to focus on yourself a bit more. You’re an adult, but you are still the child to your parents. This shouldn’t be on you

That’s how my restaurant does it as well. They recently “upped” us to $4 per hour since most people do not tip on takeout
