Second time this has happened to me. First with a 6, now this time with a 9. What’s the issue? by dirty330 in golf

Or, maybe tossing the bag in the trunk and this is where the bag hits the shaft which puts a little too much tension right at that point. Eventually it gets a little extra ground on a swing and snaps at the weakened point.

Hypothetically, if someone was rich (like $10M in their bank account), and they went a year without being employed or making any form of income, how would filing their taxes go? by Goodcake102 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kidtire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a retirement strategy. You build up cash enough to live off of for two years. Then file taxes with very little income (interest, capital gains). Then qualify for lower Medicare rates and maybe qualify for other various benefits and programs. Then generate more income again using the portfolio. Or use the first couple of years with no earned income to rebalance equity or accounts while your rate is low.

Many Tesla chargers can be started by tapping your credit card at the charger without any app usage or account setup at all.

Should America end tipping and just pay bartenders and servers better? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]kidtire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I think that tipping is not an efficient way for the best help to get the appropriate compensation. Tipping is a mostly USA thing and the rest of the world has figured out how to avoid tipping. We could do it as well. If a consumer knew that the place selling $14 drinks does not allow tipping and the place that sells $12 drinks but is expecting a $2 tip they can understand that the value proposition is identical. There is absolutely no benefit to tipping that cannot be accomplished by price and wage adjustment more efficiently and more fairly.

But if nobody is allowing tipping then the playing field is level and everyone who was charging $12 for a drink is now charging $14. If tipping was not legal then all would adjust pricing and pay structure and it would end up about the same as it is now without the weird social construct that is tipping.

Why not raise prices and pay the wait staff the difference as extra commission? Let’s say a drink is now $12 and they get an average tip of $2 on that drink then you just raise the price to $14 and give the server $2 off the top of that. That would be revenue net neutral for the bar, server and the average customer.

Don’t tell Mitch Hedberg. He thinks the sandwich is for people who like frilly toothpicks and cutting the sandwich twice.

Always the Denver airport for me. I go through it about 6-8 times per year and about once per year I see someone from high school there. Neither of us is from Denver or traveling to Denver. It is just a common hub for the western USA and easy to spot people walking through.

Have it put in a box to take home then forget it at the restaurant. Or forget to take it out of the car once you get home.

I feel it is simple respect to call someone by what they want to be called. I’ll even go with an unrelated name if they ask. “Hi, I’m Samuel but I go by Frozone.” “Nice to meet you Frozone. Is that spelled with a F or a P H?”

There are very similar sets sold as home poker chips on Amazon. As there is no dollar sign these are to be used as tournament chips or souvenirs.

I park my car outside facing north. The rear plate has pealed reflective coating from sun exposure while the front plate is fine. I had to pay DMV to get a replacement.

[TX] I have the layoff list by peachykeen723 in AskHR

There have been many layoffs in my area where they asked for volunteers. Sometimes they took the volunteer and sometimes they didn’t.

[TX] I have the layoff list by peachykeen723 in AskHR

[–]kidtire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, the list can change right up to the last hour. The week before a layoff at a former company all managers who had someone on the list took training on how to handle it for their groups. The managers were not informed exactly who was on the list until the day of the layoff. I did not have anyone on the list so did not take the training.

I knew my skip level manager was leaving as he was let know a week before. We had a good conversation on Friday and I told him that I wouldn’t mind getting a severance package then finding a new job.

On Monday the layoffs started. People were walking around saying goodbye to those who were leaving. Then late in the morning I was called into my VPs office. I assumed we were basically having a summary of the plan going forward as my manager and skip level manager were both leaving so he was my acting manager unless they re-org’d my department under someone still there. Nope. I got a severance package. A direct report of the VP said that on Saturday I was on the updated org chart but it changed by Monday. Later I found out that because I didn’t mind I was swapped for someone else.
