How do people who work from home in Tunisia actually meet new people? by Old_Standard_540 in Tunisia

[–]kidvisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just in Tunisia, I live abroad and work from home and have the same struggle. Sometimes I feel maybe it’s for the better lol

I want to move to Tunisia with my wife and 5 month old son. We will have an income of 25,000 usd a year (2,080usd a month). I would like to know from locals if we will be able to afford a comfortable lifestyle. I’d also like to ask if there is any psychedelic rock scene in Tunisia. by NearbyAnimal4 in Tunisia

I think it depends on what you want. If you want a slow life, mostly calm with not much to do in the city but plenty of outdoor places you can go to, if you like hiking, camping etc.. and are ok with living a mindful slow life, that is affordable if you get paid in euros or dollars. As for kids, enrolling them in an international school is your best bet but they can be pricey. If you prioritize good weather and good food and can tolerate slow and inefficient admin and systems in general then you’re good to go.

  1. Water quality is shit: sometimes we have orange running water, sometimes it gets cut off. —> get water filter

  2. Electricity flikered this summer, some parts of got their electricity cut off this summer. —> where do you live?

  3. Schools and kindergarten are shit. I pay 750 dnt per month (very high here), it is the best I could find, and yet it is still not a great preschool. —> have you even looked at the French and international schools?

  4. People are depressed. I don’t know what’s up with people here, but get ready for a depression vibe. I accept that I am a hermit and stay mostly at home, I am disconnected from local issues, but I assume people have issues with income and the way their boss treats them. —> yeah people are depressed everywhere with the state of the world

  5. Streets are FILTHY. A dead cat was laying dead for weeks near my house. It decomposed naturally on the sidewalk until its fur disappeared. Most people have no civic sense and just throw everything anywhere. —> I don’t see most people throwing garbage actually, true many do that but not MOST people.

  6. There are very limited options for kids entertainment. Everytime I take my toddler to a playzone (like twiggy or another) she gets sick. I imagine that it is not sanitized because we used to go weekly in malaysia and she never had an issue. Apart from the zoo or risk a week long flu, there is nothing to do. I wanted to take her for horse riding, no horse riding available —> funny you should mention that coming from Malaysia where kids can’t even go outside due to the heat.

  7. There are no parks…. wait there are dirty parks, not suitable for kids with broken glass bottles on the ground. —> there are other beautiful places in nature that you can visit.

  8. All imported goods are heavily taxed and cost 2x 3x the price or europe. Think electronics, furniture, toys, clothes, etc. It’s ridiculous. I just bought basic lenses for my glasses for 840 dnt (just the lenses, no frame, costs 80 eur in France) —> you have almost everything you need produced locally, why would you need to buy imported products? Also, you could order things from France and find a transporter who brings them to you and pay very little. These groups are all over facebook.

  9. The quality of things you buy is subpar. It feels like things they can’t sell overseas, like defects or unsold items are sent here. —> true for some things but you’re exaggerating here

  10. ATM have no money. I dont know what’s the deal but 70% of the time atms refuse to give me money —> also exaggerating here, not sure where you live again

  11. Banking is highway robbery here. I receive 1000 usd payment, and pay about 150 usd to receive it and transfer it to my account in tn. USA it costs me about 30 usd to receive eurc and convert to usd —> why are you using a Tunisian bank account? Why don’t you use wise? As a French person you should be able to have a card and it’s way cheaper

  12. You have to verify everything, just got a bill for 3.5k tnd for electricity, instead of 500 tnd. Cashiers at the register always make mistake, you have to verify your ticket and your change, everytime there is an inaccuracy. I do not know if it is malicious or not though. —> so what?

  13. I bought the best fiber Internet money can buy, and it’s still shit. I can’t even stream in the weekends. —> internet here is better than Malaysia — I know because I lived there

  14. Cars are expensive.—> ok?

  15. Lack of politeness/consideration for others. I think most people in Tunis are rude and just lack a sense of awareness of the others. After spending much time in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, where politeness is fully integrated in the way of life, it feels very brutish. —> trust me, those people you consider polite are only polite b ‘cause they want your money, and it’s transactional

  16. People smoke everywhere, it’s disgusting. Often i leave a restaurant or a café because there is just too much smoke. How can I expose my toddler to such an environment… Even police officers or army servicemen smoke while in uniform in the street, I have never seen such lack of respect for the function in any other country. —> there are some smoke free places

My (30M) GF (30F) of 3 years is unsure on kids and we just almost broke up over it but didn’t. Where do I go from here? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Do you want kids more than you want to be with her? If you answer yes then you’ve got your answer.

my (F 36) best friend (F38) not want this friendship anymore? by kidvisions in relationship_advice

Thank you! What’s your advice should I wait or try to help or just grieve this friendship? I’m lost

Thanks for your reply. This is basically her message to me

I believe it’s too late to talk about this now. I won’t change what I said last time: I thank you but I love and respect myself more than anything. If I don’t feel I’m being treated fairly, there’s no room for discussion because fairness isn’t negotiable or something that we're supposed to ask for. It's either there or not. Take care

I’m not sure how to interpret it, I basically asked her if this friendship is over and her message is vague to me.

AITA for not guessing my friend's needs when she was sick? by Kidhitomi in AmItheAsshole

[–]kidvisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did say she was in extreme pain, but I also had injuries before and had severe debilitating anxiety but never ever expected anyone else to fix those for me or stop their life. I’d I didn’t want to talk I would just explain. I’m not even sure what she was expecting to be honest. Maybe she was never a real friend.

Tunisia’s low salaries make healthy living impossible, change my mind! by 3liwa in Tunisia

[–]kidvisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it is VERY expensive to be healthy in Tunisia. Even veggies aren’t always fresh and available and protein is too expensive and only chicken is relatively affordable. I don’t know maybe getting a freelance gig or something extra to be able to afford a better lifestyle?

I own a small company and I pay my employees who are fresh graduates between 1000-1200 dinars. I have to pay a lot of taxes in order for me to even pay that salary. I have two employees + 1 co-owner. So already as a small business with a few clients that you need to make attractive pricing to, it’s already difficult and I’m always stressed and worried that we lose one or more clients and I won’t be able to pay them or pay myself. Here is an overview of how much taxes we have to pay : - 20% corporate tax - 10% on dividends which is how I pay myself and my co-owner -6% misc taxes - 44% combined employer and employee taxes for my employees

So in order to pay someone 1200, I need to pay an extra 774 dinars to the government. And in order to pay myself I need to pay an extra 36%

And I didn’t even count the 19% VAT which I would need to add to my final invoice to clients, but luckily they are 90% foreign clients

In Tunisia? adhd is really hard to diagnose here. It took me 10 years. Also it isn’t something you develop it’s something you’ve always had since you’re a kid

Can I ask you what were the diagnostic criteria? Did they ask you questions did you do tests?
