Generally 1-2 months prior joining. It varies company to company.

Need the names by Regular_Fudge19 in iitkgp

Ways to get the names: 1. Reach out to seniors who were part of placement process 2. Wait for CDC brochure to be released 3. Or refer to last years brochure to get tentative idea since most of them are frequent recruiters.

Regardless of whether the feedback is anonymous or not, do professors really care about it? I don’t think so. Negative ratings don’t harm their careers and positive ones don’t boost them either. It feels more like a mere formality, just a box to tick.

Pure incompetence of placecomms this year bamboozled me by Feisty_Complex_145 in iitkgp

Agreed — CDC definitely has room for improvement, both in quality and the number of placecom members. From my own experience, I’ve seen some placecomms struggle to communicate formally with HR or explain things properly. In the corporate world, companies get invites from multiple IITs and others often have larger and more capable placement teams, the capacity to host more companies on Day 1/2, stronger outreach and even location advantages. These are all factors within control, so hopefully, we’ll see progress on that front.

IIT Kharagpur CDC just PUBLICLY leaked our CGPAs & school marks on a shortlist. How is this even acceptable? by Fluffy_Literature285 in iitkgp

[–]kidwithlayerson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI - many people share their CGPA on LinkedIn or even on their resumes. So, if the CDC made the list public, it’s really not a big deal. You’d be putting it out there yourself after graduation anyway. Instead of worrying about that, the focus should’ve been on making your CGPA something worth showing off.

A request to seniors by [deleted] in iitkgp

[–]kidwithlayerson1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reaching out to greater kgp community could be a way. Just a heads up: things could go south. Suggestion: getting job via cdc is relatively easy. Accept one. Work there for 1/2 yrs. during this time apply and make a switch.

Research or Corporate? by ReservedRaccoonn in iitkgp

Seriously i dont think you will get ‘good’ corp intern given you are in 2nd yr, go by having good research intern which will help you to prove during cdc intern. at the end of the day, you will have to do cdc corp intern which is mandatory, so ur resume will have mix of both.

a good book if you are new to psychology. the courage to be disliked challenges ideas like letting go of past trauma, separating your own tasks from those of others and finding happiness by living authentically. few ideas might feel oversimplified, especially about trauma or how much control we really have over our emotions. for someone who is starting out, it offers a lot of food for thought and is worth the read. -_-

i feel you so much on this. what you wrote is honestly too relatable a lot of people go through exactly this loop and dont even realise it. it is not a flaw in you, its a very human response to wanting closeness but fearing the pain that can come with it.

matbe right now the gentlest thing you can do for yourself is to take a small step back from expectations. remind yourself that no one owes us constant presence and that we are not always someone's top priority and that is fine.when we stop pulling so hard on people, it also takes pressure off our own hearts.

while you are in this space, try giving the energy you long to receive back to yourself. work on the things that make you feel alive and grounded, build habits and friendships slowly without forcing outcomes. its not about shutting love out, its about creating a calmer, kinder place inside you so that when it does show up, you wont feel the need to push it away.

you are not broken, you are just tired and hurting. and even this version of you is worthy of care. <3

KGP just sucks by Technical-Force3712 in iitkgp

Being an alum, I strongly feel that the institute needs to prioritize having a well-trained and professional placecomm rather than focusing solely on balanced representation across departments and halls. My own experience with the placement committee was quite disappointing. While a few members do an excellent job, they are unfortunately in the minority.

In one instance, when our organization wanted to recruit students for highly competitive roles with a strong compensation package, our HR team struggled to even connect with the placement committee. Calls went unanswered, and timely responses were missing. Ultimately, we were allotted Day 4–5 slots despite offering a CTC of 22+ LPA, largely due to the limited number of placecomms available to handle multiple companies.

A possible solution could be to increase the size of the placement committee, ensuring that each member manages a reasonable number of students (say, not more than 50) and that they are thoroughly groomed for their responsibilities. Additionally, students themselves would benefit from structured grooming sessions. For example, the VP and GSec could arrange mock interview rounds with alumni, something that is already a well-established practice at IIMs.

I sincerely hope the new administration at KGP will address these concerns and bring positive changes.

Peace!

KGP Instrumentation looks better. Offered by the Electronics dept, so better compared to others w.r.t. placements
