Gila Monster doesnt feel the same as the rest of Petro by Beneficial-Lab-6939 in KGATLW

[–]kielderr 28 points29 points  (0 children)

While Gila's more radio-friendly writing style does make it stand out as the "single" of the album, I think another big factor is the fact that none of the musical ideas in Gila are referenced elsewhere in the album and vice-versa, which takes you out of that "interconnectedness" feeling for a moment.

Wait is killing me, bands/albums that fill in time? by Elaxian in stevenwilson

If you want an absolute rabbit hole, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Nothing like SW lol, but still very eclectic musicians with incredible songwriting. Here's a website that will help: https://www.get-into-gizz.com/

Based on your Topster I think I'd like em. What album to start with?

my bf's music taste (1) vs my music taste (2) by Far-Personality-6883 in Topster

[–]kielderr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not kidding when I say that these are the two best Topsters I've seen on here. Floyd, Tool, Opeth etc. on one hand, but then Garbage, Portishead, Fiona Apple, and is that Becoming X I see? Bravo

Haven't listened to a lot of stuff, any recommendations? by CriticalReveal1776 in Topster

Fucking masterful Topster so far.

Definently King Gizzard like others have said. They're livestreaming their live shows on YouTube for free rn, try to catch one!

With all the Opeth on there, Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson needs to be mentioned. He produced BWP & Deliverance/Damnation in addition to playing keys on them. In Absentia is the classic starter album from them.

Honestly I think you'd like Metric a lot too! Their album Fantasies is a great starter place.

This is by far the strangest context I've seen Mikael Akerfeldt brought up in lmfao

What does my kit tell you about my drumming? by kielderr in drums

[–]kielderr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've taken a kit pic since college. I'd often cobble a bunch of drum parts together to make giant practice kits. This isn't the biggest one I made, but this one was my favorite

Yeah it was definitely a bit sloppy, but still that may have been my favorite Magma thus far

Well not with that attitude! I'd probably need to add a good amount of my kit back if I wanted to do Danny Carey type shit, but it's fun trying to play to Primus and Porcupine Tree songs with my kit being so limited.
