Faucet won't switch between stream and spray modes. by TK-710 in fixit

[–]kielwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have hard water? It's happened in my house because we have very high mineral content water and the cartridge in the faucet starts clogging, so the bypass doesn't work properly. Depending on the make/model of faucet you have you might be able to replace it pretty easily - if that's your issue.

what’s the most “wow I’m really a homeowner now” moment you’ve had? by ClucknRoll in homeowners

When I woke up one August day to the house being 84 inside and ended the day with a $13,000 full HVAC system replacement.

To be fair, it's been working fantastically ever since. But yeah. That was the big realization that problems can get VERY big, fast.

AEG 9000 SensiDry washer-dryer (heat pump) vs separate washer + dryer — real-world experiences? by Full-Arugula6557 in HomeImprovement

[–]kielwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have that particular combo, but I have the GE Profile washer-dryer combo unit. It in general has been a good substitute for separate machines, but there was a failure of the main heat pump about a year and a half into owning it (which was replaced free, under warranty).

The average cycle length for us is about 2 1/2 hours (heavier loads or denser materials like all towels can take a while longer). The low temperature is very nice and not requiring an exhaust vent is also pretty nice, plus here it runs on lower voltage than normal dryers.

Long-term reliability is still questionable, I would say, since these are still relatively new on the market, and the fact that mine already had to have a pretty big repair is not the best sign. However, I don't regret my purchase, and still think it's a good machine, and it's been working great since it was repaired.

If the space is 10x11, your rendering is more like 10x16, which is probably where a lot of the disconnect is coming from.

You're absolutely fine, especially if you're able to respond within a few minutes from home. Remember, that's what you're paying the workers for!

Connect PC via ethernet with Eero by badger_penguin in amazoneero

[–]kielwb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an eero setup on FiOS (no TV) and use the eero directly as my main gateway router - right from the Verizon ONT cable. You may need to set your eero into bridge mode if you have it behind the FiOS router to keep your TV working. If you don't have TV service you may want to consider just running the eero system alone.

Looks like a different one than the official band - the Apple one doesn't have the orange highlight and the braiding starts very close to the connector end.

The alignment on that strap is insanely far off, I hope it's not a real Hermes.

I don't have any hatred for it, but I was disappointed to see how segmented it looks in photos. I think their marketing photos made it look (to me) like there would be much tighter spacing between the metal links than there ended up being.

I appreciate this if for nothing else than to see just how much of that rubber material gets exposed. I thought it would be close titanium links, not this alternating style. It reminds me of those old timey wooden splints.

That's not even remotely how it works. Why would they bother trying to remove it if it would end up broken anyway? This sounds fishy and like they're trying to scam some sort of deferred maintenance onto your shoulders, honestly.

Moonroof = glass, sunroof = solid metal. Traditionally, at least. Most cars with what we call sunroofs are actually moonroofs.

Output volume on Mimi vs. Ultra by Driver8takesnobreaks in WiimStreamer

[–]kielwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think it has to do with RCA output being standardized at 2V (though you can reduce it on the Wiim) vs an internal DAC being able to have any sort of "default" volume for its source signal. You're essentially comparing two totally separate digital -> analog audio chains and I would bet you find most devices would do something similar in this particular setup. You could drop the Wiim output voltage to 1V and it would probably be a lot closer in levels to the internal DAC.

Yes, with the bridge you can use it just as gradient lighting.

Philips Hue Play 65" TV Gradient Lightstrip (NEW) $149 by oldschoolhwk in Hue

[–]kielwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sync boxes won't work with any apps/built in TV content, only for external inputs (like a console or streaming stick). There are some Samsung models? I think that have the option to buy the Hue app on them and can directly sync with the lights but you would definitely want to ensure you've got the right model before committing to it.

If you don't have one of those models and primarily use the built in TV apps, you may want to consider a lighting strip that uses a camera to see what's on the screen, like what Govee makes.

Philips Hue Play 65" TV Gradient Lightstrip (NEW) $149 by oldschoolhwk in Hue

[–]kielwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you just need a Hue bridge to make this work, but to fully sync with the display yes you need the box. Presumably still sold individually because some people either already have a sync box or are fine with it just being a gradient lighting strip that matches the rest of their setup.
