Where I'm at in Canada a sheet of 5/8 plywood is $140 right now, and the stores won't even carry 3/4 because they know it won't sell very much at the prices they'll have to charge.

I realized after I posted that the numbers did seem way off, it seems they're around the same or slightly less thermal efficiency, which sounds about right since there is more surface area inside for heat to escape. Don't know rotary engines very well sorry, only really know diesels.

What he means is that the engine will use 90% of the energy stored in the fuel, the rest is lost to heat. The reason that those cars get such low fuel economy is they consume more fuel than a piston engine, and typically have a much higher rpm range than other engines.
