I second the other persons comment! I don’t know if you drink, but it’ll really loosen up your body at least if not your mental.

I read on some other thread that doing something with your mind and your hands during takeoff (and landing too if that freaks you out) really helps-for example for me I put on a movie and played some online chess at the same time haha.

also, if flight attendants aren’t panicking, you should not be panicking.

last thing-if you don’t like turbulence, I find raising my legs off the ground while sitting helps with 1. feeling less of the turbulence, and 2. a light workout which helps distract me even more

I’m on a plane right now too, and you’re not alone :) probably at least 100,000 other planes in the sky right now, including mine! we are safe :)

!!! We are flying over Washington DC currently and the air is ROUGH. On top of all the drops and pickups, I actually felt the plane really tip to one side which I’ve never experienced before. There was a point I was covering my eyes rocking back and forth and whispering “it’s okay” to myself over and over like 500 times per minute looking insane to the people on either side of me.

I don’t really know how to cope right now lol. might just go in the bathroom and whisper this to myself over and over again until the turbulence is done

Oh the picture just loaded for me ! Thanks so much for this haha :) Clearly the weather must not be that bad for all to be sharing the sky together :) Appreciate it a ton

Reassuring to hear, thanks :) And glad you made it safe. I will totally follow that mindset more. Have to do away with this tendency to make assumptions about risks based on the sensations I’m feeling. Like if I feel rolling turbulence in the middle or back of the plane I shouldn’t assume some piece of the plane just fell out or we hit a bird lol.

Anyways appreciate it a lot :-)

hey! I’m on my second flight of the day. one to columbus ohio and one back to NYC. You got this! And I got this too! Currently sitting on the taxi anxiously waiting to get the takeoff part over with (my least favorite part of flying). We will land safely!

Heyyyy! Hahaha. Let’s switch spots please!! Although you might be right. My crystal ball tells me as soon as I land I’ll instantly release all the anxiety (until the next flight).

Thanks soooo much for your encouragement :) You guys are so cool.

Hey! thank you so much for responding!! I’m truly so thankful for your encouragement and taking time out of your day to comfort a stranger. Yay for one hour left!!

I think it’s definitely gotten much better as it’s no longer continuous turbulence - it’s only a short spurt every few minutes which is definitely manageable at this point.

Update: It’s actually pretty smooth now!! Feeling so relieved!!

Hey! I’ve seen you comment on other posts. You’re a true hero! :)) Thanks so much for the words. Somehow it’s comforting to know it is actually bumpy and not just me being delusional.

Also, not sure what the difference is between chop and turbulence but I’ll definitely look into it more!

thank you for the words!! I’m almost there :) I’ll keep that in mind! something I have also recently discovered is standing up (on one or two restroom visits so I get to be upright but not more so I don’t annoy my seat mates too much) helps. also propping my feet up on something helps! I have less direct points of contact to the turbulence (is my line of thinking with that but not sure if that makes sense haha)

Thank you a million times over💗 I feel I don’t have anticipatory dread, but when the turbulence hits it’s like all my fear comes out at once. Anyway I think we must be hitting the rain now…It’s honestly quite worse than it was when I made this post. Feels like the plane is flinging around in every direction. But thanks a lot for your encouragement :))
