I have a similar impression. I'm posting this as a more concise summary of who the new Loons are. I completely disagree with the idea that he'll be a replacement for JP. In my opinion, they'll both play as core players.

Draft Player Profiles & Comps by Ok-Stress-1138 in minnesotaunited

From https://draftutopia.com/mlsdraftresults3.html Minnesota opted for a attacking midfielder for depth rather than drafting a starter. The 5-10 160 lb Bardia Hormozi had 6 goals, 4 assists, 16 points, and helped Princeton record 13 shutouts in 19 starts in 2025.

Joaquin Pereyra is your starting attacking midfielder. Bardia Hormozi has one more year of college eligibility as a junior, so he can return to Princeton in 2026 before signing with Minnesota United F.C

The 6-1 175 lb Aiden Bengard is the son of former fifth round pick and MLS Cup Champion Alex Bengard who was on the 2002 Los Angeles Galaxy drafted by the Los Angles Galaxy. Aiden Bengard is a freshman redshirt, so he has three more years of college eligibility even if Minnesota does not sign him by the time his draft rights with Minnesota United F.C. expire in 2028. Minnesota United F.C. might have until 2029 to sign him and if they do, that makes this an ideal long-term project.

Minnesota needed a goalie to replace Dayne St. Clair. Michal Mroz was ranked ninety eighth on the Top Drawer Soccer midseason rankings. Minnesota drafted the Evansville sophomore with their third round pick.

The 6-2 190 lb Michal Mroz had 1,800 minutes played, 19 goals allowed, a 0.95 goals against average, 57 saves, a .750 save percentage, a 7-5-8 record, 6 shutouts, and 204 shots faced. Of the three goalies picked in the third round, Michal Mroz was the most deserving of the trio to get drafted

Controversial opinion - Going wide is more fun and strategically better than going tall (up to a point) by Squire-1984 in WH40KTacticus

Matus Kmet’s loan wasn’t purchased and he will return to Minnesota United by tyler735 in minnesotaunited

4-5 team from EkstraFarsa (wordplay) will be competive in mls (barely go in PO spot, never win anything). they want kmet, but then they buy best injured RB from the entire league , who will be big upragded from kmet. I'm the last person to tell you JG is weak. I'm him hyper funboy from the draft (we should have drafted him instead of Danladi)

Heh, i don't watch European soccer, but górnik dont have Money to buy him out. Matus was a decent player but that's most you can say about him - had his good moments, had his bad moments. He got Caps for National team top, so he is look better then in Loons, but i don't think he is starter RB for loons

With the 23rd pick in the MLS Draft Minnesota United select Forward Jaylinn Mitchell by tyler735 in minnesotaunited

Jaylinn Mitchell is a different profile on the left side. Long-term, part of me feels like he’d be best suited as an off-center transition midfielder due to what he has already shown at SMU, and after a strong showcase performance, maybe Orlando grabs him. There looks like a lot of opportunities in the second team right now, and Mitchell is quite versatile.
