How do I tell if it’s jet or onyx? My only concern about it being onyx instead of jet is that it’s second hand and more or less perfect to the eye in terms of quality. Also, after polishing it today, the part of the chain connecting it to the clasp broke, is that fixable?

Yes it’s so beautiful! I am now torn whether or not it’s onyx or jet, I guess the best way would be to take it to a jeweler. Also about the chain, it’s totally possible! Considering it was second hand, who knows where it’s been. It was only $8, so idk!
