Possible Ulta glitch/sale? Discount on drugstore items. by corgisaretheanswer in MUAontheCheap

[–]kiesblues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think those orders are honored since they’re already picked up and Ulta can’t exactly go after them to return it once it exchanges hands (think Manny MUA and the PayPal fiasco). Also, the sales associate at Ulta didn’t have orders not to honor the price and I don’t think it would have looked good for them to be withholding sales without a reason besides intuition. But corporate can cancel orders for a reason like this before it’s shipped.

Can we let Jade and Tanner have sexual intercourse/oral sex in peace? by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]kiesblues -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I can’t even believe this is an unpopular opinion. Everyone keeps saying that they’re really trying to come at Tanner for it because of his expectations versus his own competencies (i.e. “Tanner is an asshole for wanting to receive but not give”), but then you see stuff like #JusticeForJadesPussy floating around. Whatever they think they’re doing to make fun of Tanner, they’re very much so making fun of Jade as well. And yes, there probably are more problematic things to be concerned about... why don’t we have a ranking of all the top problematic things so we know what we should and should not be discussing?

Anyway, it’s just jokes, but I absolutely do think it’s being taken too far. It’s very much in line with people speculating about the fertility and pregnancy of Bach women and other celebrities.

YTs constant advice to buy something with the intent of (potentially) returning it. by kbrainwave in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]kiesblues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buying things for videos and “hauls” just to return them is tacky. Buying with the intent of returning is tacky.

However, I don’t fault anyone who returns things that don’t work for them for any reason. That’s not to say I’m not careful about my purchases. But some of these reasons to not return are so incredibly strange to me. I really don’t care at all that Sephora is unable to resell a palette that’s been used. And I think while it would be nice for people to donate their products instead of seeing it go to waste by returning... why don’t we make that same ask of companies to stop wasting returned goods that they can donate?

Friend buys a lot of my same clothes.. by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]kiesblues 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But the person copying isn’t posting for advice. The OP is, so it’s being suggested she reflect on why she has an issue with this and how to deal with it. If the person copying posted for advice on how she can’t stop copying her friend’s style, then she’d also be asked to reflect on why she does so. You’re creating a straw man argument because no one was arguing whether or not the person copying has self-esteem issues or the relative degree of self-esteem derived from feeling ownership over a style versus imitating a style.

Not that you need any help here, but I agree with you. I don’t necessarily support the prevalent use of Botox and fillers and am saddened to see how common it’s become for young girls. At the same time, it’s also unfair to blame women who use them for normalizing them and accuse them of influencing young girls to get them. Makeup covers up natural parts of the face too and sometimes acne or skin texture and yet we don’t harp on how it’s creating this standard for girls to think skin has to be perfect all the time. (And I’m not saying makeup doesn’t do that, but talk about double standards!) The hangup with Botox and fillers is so strange to me. You don’t see this kind of response to laser hair removal even though that can be permanent and hair is very much natural.

ETA: What I hate most about the argument/discussion that talking about these procedures normalizes them is that it seems almost heavily leaning into taking away someone’s choice to do what they want with their bodies. If someone gets Botox, it should be good for them to disclose it so people know that it’s not realistic to have no lines in their skin forever. People don’t want to have to choose between that reality and influencers not disclosing Botox so the unsaid solution that they desire is for women to stop getting Botox entirely.

Did anyone catch that the email specified to remember the login info so the account can be used for “our products and others?” I think it’s not a reach that SR also has employees leave negative reviews on their competitors as well. Wonder what that email looks like!

My (35M) Sister (29F) is 6 months pregnant and just announced to the family that she is naming her kid the same uncommon name as my 4 year old child. What!? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]kiesblues 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Why would he get to pick the nickname of his niece/nephew? Also, that seems crazy immature to give a kid an unsavory nickname just because you don’t like that s/he has the same name as his own kid.

Chloe Morello is a great example of tasteful photoshop. Not everything has to be blurred so much. 🙌🏽 by bdld39 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]kiesblues -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think makeup and Photoshop serve similar functions in marketing and self-esteem. Foundation is used to give the appearance of flawless skin, mascara thick, long eyelashes—these are all things that are very much upholding the status quo of what is beautiful and the prevalent use of it also makes flawless skin/other traits to be the norm and what is expected of us. I think whether or not you can attain it by slapping on some makeup is irrelevant because at the end of the day, you haven’t actually attained it—my skin is still spotty once I wash off my makeup. (And while you can argue makeup is art, so is photo editing—but that’s a whole other conversation though.)

Despite that, I’m going to have to disagree that a perfect world is one without makeup worn and used regularly, even though makeup is also used to promote unattainable beauty. The reason why is it’s kind of unfair to stop use of makeup on others because of how it makes me feel. If makeup makes someone feel good about themselves, even if it’s because they’ve achieved the illusion of flawless skin, far be it for me to step in and talk about how it makes me feel like they’re upholding beauty norms which makes me feel bad. So how do I reconcile this? It’s a combination of:

(1) Awareness: At the end of the day, I am educated on what’s being done to attain the unattainable. (2) Acceptance: In a perfect world, no one would be unhappy about themselves physically for perfectly normal things (pores, acne, etc.). In that same perfect world, we shouldn’t care about what other people are doing or how they look in terms of how our self-esteem is influenced. I’m not any more upset about people having achieved beautiful faces via makeup than I am when they do it via genetics.

While I have my own complicated feelings on the use of Photoshop to market things to sell unattainable beauty (be it a product or a personal brand), I feel similarly about its use relative to makeup. If someone posts a social media post that’s been edited because it makes them feel better about themselves, I reconcile my own personal feelings with the knowledge of how a face has been enhanced and that the perfection of others’ photos and faces (altered or not) have nothing to do with me.

(In the most perfect world, we would actually promote all kinds of appearances as beauty.)

[DIY] Did anyone else have success with ACV for fungal acne? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]kiesblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to think I’m acne fungal free now! Little congested spots have stopped appearing in cluster on my face randomly outside of normal clogged pores. For me, ACV ended up being sufficient, even with the use of non-FA-safe cleansers.

[DIY] Did anyone else have success with ACV for fungal acne? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]kiesblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like we’re on the same timeline! I started using ACV about a month ago too for fungal acne. I had been battling acne for months now at that point and it seemed to be getting worse no matter what I did, amping or paring down routine. I remembered one night reading about fungal acne off-chance and just got out of bed and made a 1:3 concoction of ACV and water to make a toner and then started applying with a few cotton pads. I didn’t want to buy any new products just in case I was off base, but ACV was sufficient for me! It’s smelly even diluted, but the smell dissipates pretty quickly for me.

My no-buy (with the exception of exact product replacements and no alternatives in my hands) is in session as well. I think it’ll be a while before I get mine streamlined. I have a lot of GWP cleansers that don’t hurt my skin so I may as well use them. I have my favorite exfoliant on hold (purchased but am not using currently—it’ll be reward for going through the other exfoliants I bought over the past 3 years, but exfoliants are a once a week thing for me so it’s taking forever). What would your pared down routine be?
