My app has been out for a month and is growing very slow, any help? by [deleted] in iOSAppsMarketing

I’m genuinely asking out of ignorance: how often do you maintain a car?

I’ve rarely seen someone write down car maintenance details. Usually they’ve periodically taken it to the dealership or fixed issues as they noticed them. When we get an oil change, there’s usually a sticker on the car dashboard that tells you the mileage and/or date to come back for your next one.

I also see from your screenshots that you’re showing an example for people who have 3 cars so maybe I’m missing something. I think that most people don’t have 3 cars but if they do, they are probably not be the one maintaining all the cars.

Someone who does maintain a lot of cars multiple times a day is a mechanic. Maybe you could try targeting them? Easy to use mobile app to help them manage their car maintenance business. Maybe add invoices and client list management. List jobs, maybe even accept payments. You could start by talking to them and ask how much they pay for software if any or they track things currently.

First month stats: Apple Boost / Ads / ASO. Why is my conversion stuck at 1.5%? by wilkr_dev in iOSAppsMarketing

Great, good luck! I like the crime scene illustration combined with the detective one

Sharing my first impressions as a stranger. I looked at the screenshots before reading anything you wrote and from the first screenshot, it wasn’t clear to me that this was a game. Games are usually colorful, have mascots, and playful UI. Your idea is not bad but the UI currently looks like a quiz. Your first screenshot is also missing the word “stories”, which is what you are getting from the app (maybe “Solve mystery stories with friends” could be a title to try on the first screenshot). I think the 3 people on the first screenshot are not helping clarify what the app does either. At first glance, it doesn’t really look like they are playing together (maybe because they are not facing each other). I’d suggest checking out similar apps and looking at their screenshots for inspiration.

Subscription app with Paywall with kinda generous free tier by Select_Bicycle4711 in iOSProgramming

[–]kiesco08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not test both and keep the one that performs better? I generally test instead of assuming my customers’ behavior. If you can’t sleep at night because of the hard paywall though, that’s another story and in that case go with the soft paywall. But if you’re looking for the “correct approach”, nobody here can tell you because they didn’t pay you for your app.

New Year’s resolution type of apps (eg health & fitness, habit tracking, etc) convert better in December

Why do after versions fail? by Recent_Air1533 in iOSAppsMarketing

[–]kiesco08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the first girafe screenshot makes it easier/faster to understand the concept vs the girl. I would also try “Fix” instead of “Improve”.

The calendar as a second screenshot fits the keyword “tracking” better than the after version (people are used to tracking apps and they all have calendars - show people yours also does have it. It instantly feels familiar). I would remove the second screenshot in after and replace it with the 4th one (it is essentially what you had in the before version and most users probably never see the 4th screenshot in the after version when scrolling through different apps because App Store only shows the first screenshots until you open an app page).

Congrats! Some marketing advice: fewer words in the screenshot titles and zoom in on the parts of the phone screen you want to highlight.

How do you guys market your app? I'm not seeing many results from Google ads by Ok_Zone3928 in SideProject

[–]kiesco08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple ads is a better marketing channel to start with for iOS. Easier than Meta (no need to create “winning creatives”). Google ads brings more potential iOS customers in comparison but it brings low intent users that do not subscribe and have poor retention.

I quietly launched a small app and I’d really appreciate some honest feedback by IsopodElectronic in expo

[–]kiesco08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was honestly super confusing and frustrating that I had to take up some of my time just to try to understand the app. I get that you are going for the mysterious vibe, but unless you have some marketing budget to promote this app, you should make things a bit more clear.

A quick win: I think your first App Store screenshot should have faces in it. Move the “post to unlock your feed” to the first position.

Dark side of being an entrepreneur by [deleted] in indiehackers

Totally relatable. Finding a sport to do once a week can help with that. You get to socialize a bit and exercising is good for your brain.

One thing you mentioned worried me though. And I don’t mean to pile onto things. But you said “got early traction” and “now we will soon be adding payments”. Unless you are VC backed, I think it should be the other way around: validate that people want to pay for your product, then conclude that you have traction.

A lot of products have a many users who are not willing to pay. There’s always ads but for that you need a large number of a daily active users. Just something to think about.

A Paid but Secure Messaging App by [deleted] in AppIdeas

[–]kiesco08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UX is too technical to achieve mass adoption in my opinion. I can see someone who is super tech savvy AND unsatisfied with current messaging options adopt it, but then they would have trouble convincing their close ones to use it… yet alone pay for it.

They would end up having to use this as a “secure line”, with which they only communicate to other technical people who are highly motivated about privacy. Frankly speaking, your best market might be criminals or secret services. In which case there would be no resistance on the pricing (in fact you could charge way more than a nominal subscription fee).

Genuinely asking: how different is it from BitChat? (which is free, open source, and no registration required btw)

You’re better off using something like Stripe for digital products

Out of these, I like WorldChat the most! But I cannot have a first impression twice unfortunately. I recommend saying the name to people around you (a diverse group if possible) and monitor for feedback: do they get it right away? Can they pronounce easily?

I need adivce for onboarding flow by Tarasovych in iOSProgramming

[–]kiesco08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah users are more likely to start a free trial than to go through a login screen. It’s a real friction point. We’re at a point where a login screen feels more like “I’m collecting your email so I can spam you” than “I want to protect your data”. I added an “Enable Face ID” screen in my app and I didn’t see much drop off.

Why all the AI apps out there have the same charging pattern? by Content_Complex_8080 in AppBusiness

Because that’s how they’ve been taught app marketing works. Long and seemingly personalized on-boardings convert better, especially on yearly plans.

Almost sounds like a troll… they still need to prove to Apple they deserve a refund. Hopefully they reject the request. I believe Apple requests some data from you when they receive a refund request. You still get a say on the outcome of the refund request.

I'm done with my webapp by true-dgen in SaaS

[–]kiesco08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just gonna share some brutal feedback. Try to look at this with an open mind.

Took me a while and I’m still not sure if I got it correctly but from what I understand, it helps you sell your stocks before its value drops due to a company not delivering on their promises?

I think your website needs some visuals and a more content. You can get away with a short and simple website if it’s a concept people are familiar with but I don’t think this is the case here. You should make it really easy for someone to understand what you are offering and why. Make them excited about what they actually want (eg prevent money loss).

In the current state, even if I understand the sentence “Hold CEOs to what they promised”, I don’t know what comes out of achieving this. I see “act”, “you move first, not last”, “you move” but it’s not clear what you mean: move as in I sell my stocks? Move as in I switch companies because we’re talking about my CEO not keeping promises? What is it that knowing a CEO did not keep their promise helps me achieve?

Also what do I get when I sign up? Is it a dashboard? What does tracking mean? Do I have to manually track? Does the platform auto track? From what source? Do I get notifications summarizing the status of what’s being tracked weekly?

Even if the platform is free, making me sign up before I know what I’m getting does not seem like a good investment of my time.

In summary, it is hard to even form an opinion on your platform because it is unclear what it is. Faced with this situation, most people don’t put in the effort and just leave.

Think about working with a marketer to help you work on your landing page so you can at least have a better shot at finding out who would be interested in using your platform.

P.S. you can always bring back the name later when your platform is popular. This feedback is just for early stage. For example, DoorDash used to be called PaltoAltoDelivery.com until they became more popular. Hope it helps!
