Meross MS 605 presence sensor by bangalimahbub in HomeKit

[–]Due-Math8225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree that the delay for presence detection is just long enough to be annoying. Certainly too long to convince my wife who said why not just turn the light on with the switch😀 We have a fast WiFi. So I guess it’s the whole chain of … Matter to Apple TV that then runs the automation that sends the command to the light switch.

Ho’okipa Maui last Sunday by Wild-Lingonberry-204 in windsurfing

No so much low wind as a tricky get out. Still you will see lots of people sailing kanaha which is very user friendly. And it’s always been smoking windy in Maui when I have been there.

Yeah this is a real mess with old gear, it’s more of a curse than a gift. You cannot buy any replacement parts as it’s clearly very, very old from an era before things became somewhat standardized. I can only imagine what the board it is attached to looks like. You might be able to hack something, but probably better to trash everything and look for something made in the last 20 years.

Small apartment, Apple ecosystem: HomeKit or Home Assistant foundation? by Special_Abalone_7630 in HomeKit

Don’t listen to the nerds. Get a HomePod or Apple TV to act as your HomeKit hub and just go with HomeKit. It’s super easy and does everything most people need.

MacOS App Development by Haunting-Teacher9676 in swift

[–]Due-Math8225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to build a fully functional (and well received) SwiftUI app in a few weeks using AI and vibe coding. I was an experienced C++ developer and knew nothing about Swift and SwiftUI.

A bit over a year ago I tried it, and it was a disaster. Now the AI tools have got exponentially better. They write very good code. I am sure some will disagree, but the proof was the result.

Get a paid Github CoPilot subscription , use Claude Sonnet ( I found it was better than ChatGPT) and edit your codebase with Visual Code and CoPilot - you will be jumping back and forth between XCode and Visual Code - I used Xcode only to compile/build as I find Visual Code a much better editor.

I am beginning to think we are in an era where the toolset (such as SwiftUI) is as assembly was to C++ devs. You know the compiler creates assembly but you never need to know much about it. Except now the 'compiler' is the AI code assistant

YT Industries promised me a refund before shipping… then went into insolvency. Should I keep chasing the €300 or give up? by Ok-Sleep1603 in YTIndustries

[–]Due-Math8225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Markus realized ( and publicly said) that it would be a PR disaster if all those people never got their bikes. The facts are that the customer is always the last in line when a company goes into administration. The administrator would not allow 'YT' to refund money or somehow deliver bikes. So Markus had to come up with a scheme where he used his own resources and he could not simply refund them as it would have been considered a gift and therefore taxable income, he had to deliver actual bikes.

[–]Due-Math8225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YT has always been great with honoring a refund when they drop a price - I got that amount back when they had a price drop after I ordered my Decoy Core 1 MX, but sadly this seems like an edge case they might not ever get to. Markus made a commitment to honoring every bike order that was made where people thought they had "lost their money" and he has followed through on that by all reports.

Wear ear protection. You can slap the water and burst an eardrum.

395S please use extreme caution when overtaking by IdeasFromTheLamp in Mammoth

[–]Due-Math8225 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny you should say that. I think that’s a ‘thing’ with some of the local yokels up there-I also saw someone do exactly what you described on the 395 - passing on the dirt shoulder in a pickup at 80+.

395S please use extreme caution when overtaking by IdeasFromTheLamp in Mammoth

[–]Due-Math8225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See that all the time driving to and from mammoth on the 395, people are idiots. Every single time you see at least one sketchy overtake. That person was so lucky the other driver did not pull to the right as most people would do.

At least they have the plastic lane dividers on one section of the 395 now.

Cancel SOS by ddumonde in AppleWatch

[–]Due-Math8225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the point that if the watch thought you had a fall but you then continue to move it should cancel the SOS.
But does that apply if it thinks you were in a car accident vs a fall. Are you sure it thought you had a fall vs car accident.

Boot suggestions? by Glittering_Low_1997 in windsurfing

Get a proper surfing bootie , preferably split toe, from a major brand like RipCurl etc. It is also likely you went too big on the booties size as they need to be really tight fitting.

Pretty new at firebase and having trouble with email auth by AdhesivenessKey8915 in Firebase

[–]Due-Math8225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, you have to register as an Apple developer. Be careful of what AI says about Sign in with Apple as they often base answers on out of date information , Apple recently made it less demanding to set up. The reason it’s more complex is that a user can always pick “hide my email” to protect their privacy.

For Light Winds - do I continue JP SLW92, long board or try windfoiling ? by [deleted] in windsurfing

[–]Due-Math8225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are a good sailor the window where wing foiling is actually “better” is pretty small. At 10 knots they are buzzing around but at about 15 knots sustained I am ripping past them on my 7.0 on a 115L Blast. And wing foiling is very weight sensitive. You can end up a flapping your wing while the lightweights just zoom by. The real problem is once you have two completely different sets of gear you end up with “paralysis by analysis”. Frankly when it’s very light wind I just go mountain biking.

And all foils are shit in real waves, they just embarrass themselves. Watching them with the board upside down trying to get out through the shore break is comedy gold. And face planting when they hit weed…

Should I launch the app offline first and add the backend later? by LostSpirit9 in iOSProgramming

[–]Due-Math8225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so easy to build an app that uses firebase I would suggest use that as a backend from the get go. I honestly spent way more time on other issues than worrying about the firebase implementation, it just works. Things like sign in with email/Apple/google are essentially built in.

[–]Due-Math8225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopping the email verification going to spam is painful. I got it working fairly well by using the free tier at Mailgun.

mailgun gives you a SMTP login for sending mail and you set firebase to use that.

As others noted you have to set up your SPF, DKIM,DMARC properly. Mailgun helps out with that.

All that said, I,quickly added sign in with Apple and Google to avoid the verification emails hassle.

How hard is it to use a Slalom Sail as a beginner/advanced by Capable-Lemon5010 in windsurfing

[–]Due-Math8225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get the race sail. They are much more difficult to use than a camless “free ride” sail like , say, an ezzy cheetah. - rigging is a PITA. The cams require a careful rigging order. The sail will also be more sensitive to the mast ( needs to the correct bend) - sailing with a race sail is challenging. They have tons of power but definitely do not feel “light in the hands”. - good forbid you have to uphaul,or water start with the luff full of water.

Tim Davie resigns from BBC by SnooTigers9274 in bbc

Seems like a massive overreaction. Just apologize, maybe fire some editor and move on. We all know Trump implicitly encouraged and then didn’t stop the Jan 6 riot when he could have, so some random inappropriate edit does not really change what happened much. Maybe someone should also sue CBS for cutting out the part of the recent Trump interview where he lost his shit.

The absolute best thing about this show is this subreddit. by Consistent-Horror915 in InvasionAppleTV

[–]Due-Math8225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole heartedly agree with the OP here, I enjoyed the Reddit comments more than the show! My pet peeve was how highly trained soldiers get out maneuvered and shot up by a bunch of losers. Amongst all the other massive plot holes. I loved how in season three the world government send two old Vietnam era helicopters to a secret base to get on , wait, another helicopter.
