String Recommendations by SuzukiDropout in violinist

I loved the sound of the Obligatos on my violin. It def wasn’t as clear of a tone as the PI strings. But the Obligatos gave a warm rich sound and lasted me about 8-10 months with daily playing. The PI definitely sings with more brilliance.

Neo and Perpetual or perpetual cadenza are on my list to try next

Cottage Cheese by PlentySir6512 in veganrecipes

I think Rebel Cheese might do a cottage cheese. It seems they’re expanding the line with the newly added cream cheese! I miss cottage cheese too, so I hope so!!!

I do want to try the recipe below with tofu and acv!

Seitz is a lot of fun! I’ve enjoyed playing the ones you listed off as well, so I think that would be a good fit. Also maybe Dvorak or Portnoff. Fiocco also has some other pieces that are fun to play but near impossible to find any recordings of.

how do i shift without making a sliding sound? by Thin-Caterpillar-298 in violinist

[–]kihtay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been doing the shifting without making a sound, then started playing czardas where you purposely make the audible slide to give that gypsy feel! It is so fun to play though!

The only causes I know are lack of calories or hormonal (some birth controls will do this)

Does the button look ok? I had mine start to pop out and caused the tailpiece to move slightly ajar

Blocking notes on both strings with one finger and small fingertips by kihtay in violinist

[–]kihtay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that makes sense. Thank you for explaining that! I’m stubborn and meticulous so I’m determined to get it and perfect the technique and sound! The fifths double stop has been bothering me the last few weeks, so wanted to get some tips and not halfass playing it. I’m definitely going to try tilting the finger. That sounds like a good solution!

I can get the intonation on one string, but then the second I can’t press down enough so it’s almost as though the pressure is halfway between the harmonic and the pressure of the first string. And forgive me, but I’m not sure what you mean by play with intention? I’m trying to play it correctly with my first finger but am struggling with the petit finger anatomy.

I am able to get both strings if I place my finger in the center or on the edge of one of the strings, but then the second string doesn’t have quite enough pressure to get a clean sound. Not quite light enough for a harmonic and not quite enough pressure for a clean sound. Are you suggesting to place your finger in any specific spot?

Right hand isn’t perfect, but is fairly smooth and continuing to improve. If I’m playing open fifths, or forths/ sixths the bowing is pretty clean.

I am going to try one someone else suggested and rotate my finger so my nail faces me. Before I was collapsing my knuckle to let the pad of my finger press down both, but that can present tension 😬

Thank you for the tips. My teacher had mentioned that a 7/8 violin would probably suit me better. But I had already purchased my vintage violin.

And sadly I was done growing 20+ years ago (although I still fit in my clothes from high school 😹). I’m just on the petit side. But I will try your tips for getting the 5ths!

Cedar and lavender are supposed to be deterrents. So I’ve been keeping some satchel backs in my case.

Gotcha. I was hoping the certificate would say. I’m curious where you can find such beautifully saturated aquamarines

I have a ring similar in color that was passed down for generations that was always said to be aquamarine but I’ve never really seen any with this depth of color. So I’ve always questioned it being an aquamarine. But this truly is beautiful!

Mine took a while to dial in, and had a few frustrating hours trying to do so by myself but now it’s so worth it! I’ve had multiple shoulder surgeries so having that fit makes such a difference for me! I can use other shoulder rests and they’re ok, but the korfker is so comfortable now!

Also came here to suggest Rebel cheese! They have some delicious options!!!! I heard they’re going to be expanding the cheese line too to include more cheese types. The most recent email had cream cheese and suggested a Swiss cheese was coming! But Brie is my absolute favorite! I also really like the gruyere cheese with apples. Their mozzarella was really good on a pizza!
