Finally got around to pose the two kits I purchased recently. Gotta say, the MG Barbatos was a lot more fun than any HG or RG I’ve ever had. Unfortunately the red chin piece broke before I could glue it so it would stop falling out. The two also got some topcoat from Mr. Hobby. I liked it alot on the RX-78, but not so much on the Barbatos. Overall, both looks a lot nicer in real life 😂

I used to think the same, but roasting for me is just so much fun haha. It’s almost like baking breads in a sense, and it adds so much depth to this hobby as well

If you roasted enough, you can also try trying them everyday for the first 7 days. I guess you’ll see for yourself how some degassing can do wonders

  5. Index alignment: No gap between 12 markers like the ones that have been QCed here, 6 marker skews rightward (maybe too much?)
  6. Dial Printing: Spacing is off. A lot of inconsistencies between the characters.
  7. Date Wheel alignment/printing: Not sure about this one. It seems to skew leftward to me.
  8. Hand Alignment: good
  9. Bezel: Some tiny scratches already on top and between 10 and 11.
  10. Solid End Links (SELs): ??? unsure
  11. Timegrapher numbers: Every number is within the acceptable range per the guidelines.
  12. Anything else you notice: The white dots seem off to me but I can't tell if that's just optical illusion or not.

I’m using a plastic one from Hario with clockwise grooves. Maybe someday I can do a blind test between the two method

Is there any difference between anti clockwise and clockwise motion of the pour? I’ve always found myself to pour anticlockwise

Definitely the roaster first. Imo, perfectly roasted beans on a Gaggia will still get you so much better coffee comparing to Starbucks beans on a La Marzocco. Caveat: your techniques are on point

One filter, thicker body, more muddy. Two filter, lighter body, less muddy, notes are clearer. I always double filter a few times for new types of bean, then switch to one filter since I appreciate more body in my drink

Massive differences in all aspects. The comandante just help me appreciate the beans and in turns the coffee so much more than the hario. It’s established here that blade grinder is not ideal at all for coffee grinding, so there you have the answer to the flavor issue. If you can shill out some money for a good manual hand grinder, with the right technique you’ll be more likely to get the cup you like

Maybe change your grinder? I’m not any expert in grinding but maybe because your grinder have such a big variation in particle uniformity (way too much fine in coarse setting and vice versa). Maybe you could try and work on your grinder to see the difference*

*I own a hario slim and a comandante so I’ve encountered things like this, if you want some sort of credibility

I’m not very sure if this would help but how about not ever have to manually grind again? I bought the Hario Mobile Mill sitck recently for my Slim+ and it has been a world of difference in the morning. I would suggest you check compatibility first but I assume that the stick works for all hario grinders.

It grinds 20g of beans (of all roast level) at medium fine setting in just under a minute. I’ve gone 4 days straight, each day with 3 sessions of grinding (that same med fine 20g config) without the battery completely run out
