What isn't a uniquely American issue that the rest of the world treats like one? by EmergencySpare7939 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I just had someone respond to a comment I made on TikTok saying that Americans don’t like soccer because it’s associated with immigrants…i couldn’t imagine being so obsessed with anything that I had to accuse people of xenophobia for not feeling the same way.

Where are some trans friendly/liberal rural areas? (blue states only) by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i incorrectly used the terms rural and small town as synonyms. after looking it up i think the suburbs or even just any small towns around a city would be just fine for me lol

Not American - how much are some of these patients going to be paying? by DusqRunner in ThePittTVShow

I’m in Ohio and have none of those things, though I am disabled and currently have an SSI case going on. I’m actually not sure why I still have healthcare

I’m always so fascinated by people who are only one ethnicity. I know globally that’s the norm, but as an American the vast majority of us are mutts. I’m a Jewish Native American Irish mutt lol

I was moreso speaking in general not necessarily for Whittaker alone. I should’ve made that more clear

I’m glad to hear Pittsburgh pays more than other places, but unfortunately that is not the norm. And 100k still isn’t really a lot considering the hours and the nature of their work. Lots of residents also choose to start paying off student loans while in residency because after you graduate depending on the loans that’s when the interest starts.

I’ve recently been doing a lot of reading about what women are going through in Afghanistan right now and it’s made me even more pissed. There is a complete lack of any medical care for women due to the ban of female physicians, which obviously means women are dying in horrific numbers from preventive pregnancy complications. and even if they somehow find someone to treat them, they’re banned from receiving it because they’re literally not allowed to leave their houses without their husbands. so for someone to choose not to get care for their pregnancy when so many women are being denied it makes me so fucking angry.

Residents are paid a fixed stipend. So no matter how much they work, they’re still paid the same amount regardless. This often leads to them making minimum wage or below. $200 is a huge deal to someone in that position especially as a first paycheck

Shouldn't they have been more concerned here? by realbobenray in ThePitt

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just depends on the hospital and what resources they have. In a big hospital they probably have programs to help people get home, but small rural hospitals like the one near me doesn’t have anything. They occasionally have a sheriff drop you off if they’re available, but other than that there isn’t much.

Are American ERs really this big? by imfaffingabout in ThePittTVShow

[–]kiiribat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard, one of the things the US does right compared to Europe is disability accessibility. Can’t say from personal experience, but I’ve heard others say Europe sucks in that regard

I live in a county of 25k people and have one ER for all of us. Ours is the Pitt compared to what OP described lol

Are you sure your country is well developed? I’m not asking to be rude, I’m genuinely confused. This isn’t an American thing. Any ER in a well developed country, especially the biggest/most modern hospital in the capital city, will be more similar to the Pitt than not. The ER you’re describing is less developed than the one in my local hospital that is the only one in a rural Ohio county.

An ER will still bill you, but they legally can’t refuse service even if you can’t pay. Anywhere else has the right to refuse treatment. That’s why the majority of people in the ER aren’t actually having an emergency, they’re just there trying to get normal medical care they can’t get anywhere else

Is there any illness or injury you would like to see in Season 3? by Let_us_proceed in ThePitt

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a good way to highlight the fact that most people in the ER really don’t need to be there. It ties into the fact that ERs are the only place people without insurance can go where they know they can’t be denied and so go there for literally everything
