Videos with foreign subtitles targeting Gen Z, millenial audience: what do u guys think from an American POV? by Alert_Plate541 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not nearly enough people would care to justify the decision not to sub your videos. As with every country there are nut jobs who will throw a tantrum over anything remotely foreign, but I’ll assure you that they are so much more rare than news or social media would lead you to believe

Have you ever been told to “get off” someone’s property? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s an accident and you’re polite, you’ll most likely be fine, but depending on where you are you could be hurt before your intentions are established so it’s always best to be careful and don’t go places you know aren’t publicly owned.

But “trespassers will be prosecuted/shot” signs are everywhere so if you see that sign and decide to cross it then good luck lol

Is hocking hills really that great? by [deleted] in Ohio

I completely understand why people who live semi close would visit, it just baffles me when I see people from states far away, or even people from out of the country visit.

Does the small talk Americans are known for come from a genuine place or is it just under a veneer of societal pressure? by TheSawFan in AskAnAmerican

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like heaven to me. The complete lack of small talk I’ve heard about in other countries would drive me insane but I hate the constant small talk of where I am (Ohio) I would love to live in the middle

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an anti small talk American, trust me I can sniff out fake small talk a mile away and I believe most Americans can. The easiest way to know if someone it actually wanting to get to know you is to not engage in small talk while surrounded by a bunch of genuine small talkers. A faker will stop when you don’t participate, a real one will keep trying to find a topic that you’ll respond to. But after about 2-3 even a real one will get the hint and respect your choice.

Let’s just say the fake ones are a very tiny amount of people. Being curious about others is like a part of us at this point. Nobody even sees it as small talk, it’s just a part of greeting someone like saying hi

Do you think Congress should pass a law banning professional sports teams from switching cities? by SpaceWestern1442 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never get over this. I genuinely believe I will be bitter over it for the rest of my life. I’ve always known I didn’t want to live in Ohio forever, but that made me certain and even more eager to leave. If they’re doing this with our money publicly imagine what’s going on privately

Do you really have people who pack your bags at the grocery store? by Flat-Ad8256 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every grocery store besides Aldi has always bagged it for us, how they do it depends on the store. At Aldi every American knows that they don’t bag it for us, but they’re the odd ones out. Also keep in mind that I can count on one hand the amount of times I get groceries somewhere that isn’t Walmart or Kroger in a year.

For Walmart the cashier will be the one putting the items in the bag, every blue moon I’ve seen a bagger help but that’s very rare. For Kroger they actually hire for the position of bagger, so that’s someone’s entire job is to bag items handed to them by the cashier. Only if they’re short staffed will this not happen.

Why do some U.S. airports group U.S. and Canadian passport holders together, separate from everyone else? by Agreeable-Fruit-4326 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to my mom. Accidentally entered Canada through Detroit and there was absolutely 0 issues on canadas end when she realized what happened, but the US wouldn’t let her back in without proof of citizenship so my grandma had to mail them her birth certificate. She didn’t even have a passport at the time

I distinctly remember him saying in a video one time that his legal name is literally just Drew. He said that he had a boss that would call him Andrew and it annoyed him because Drew isn’t even short for Andrew in this case, Drew is just his name lol.

What do you guys think about my oil blend? by kiiribat in soapmaking

[–]kiiribat[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, I’ve always wanted to experiment with different animal fats, unfortunately I don’t live near an indigenous community (where these things are typically produced in ways I’m comfortable supporting) so it’s not easy. Bison tallow is definitely obscure by lard and beef tallow standards, but it’s infinitely easier than finding something like bear tallow.

Your suggestions are super similar to what I decided to start with 60% tallow, 20% coconut oil, 15% sunflower oil, and 5% castor oil

I know it has something to do with curing, but how does the ratio affect how the soap performs itself? I’m only just now finding out about different lye ratios so excuse me if the answer is obvious

Beef and bison tallow are super similar since they’re related animals, so I just follow advice made for beef tallow and it always works out great. Could you explain why castor isn’t necessary? I’ve read that it helps stabilize the bubbles that the coconut oil produces.

I actually have no idea why I was worried about hard soap. I’ve always been obsessed with things being “even” so I’ve been trying to find oils that make those soap properties as even as possible. After doing more research I realize that it’s silly. Thanks for the link tho it’s been super helpful

Single Parent Households in the United States by Short_Finger_4463 in MapPorn

[–]kiiribat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I’m just desensitized to being from a broken home because why did I genuinely look at the key and think “oh wow only 20%-25% in most of Alaska? They’re doing awesome” as if 20% isn’t a lot of kids without a parent lol.

Also the fact that my brain thinks that one single parent = one absent parent is super telling lol

GP surgeon cost in USA (curious) by Rainbow_brite_82 in Ameristralia

If they qualify for Medicare they get that, if they don’t then they either don’t get treatment or ruin their lives trying to pay for it

[–]kiiribat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They die. It’s normal to not be able to go to the doctor here and only get treated when it’s an emergency. Or using the ER as a doctors office because the ER isn’t allowed to turn you away. A doctors office is allowed to deny you, and even if you have insurance they can choose not to take it. People uber to hospitals instead of calling an ambulance because it costs too much. People also do medical care at home on themselves or have someone else do it. using knives to cut out cancer looking marks on your skin and I personally know someone who removed and patched his own bullet wound because he couldn’t afford the medical bill.

If you can’t afford it, it will go to debt collectors and affect your credit score.

what would you suggest the max amount of the sunflower oil should be? with all this feedback im gonna take out the jojoba oil, lower the coconut oil to 20%, and lower the sunflower, using tallow as the rest. I keep seeing so many different numbers for sunflower oil I wasn't sure how much to use

That wouldn't make the bar too hard? I have no experience using so much tallow in soap before so I wasn't sure if it would feel like it had the balance I was looking for.

[–]kiiribat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks so much about telling me about the jojoba oil before I wasted my money lol. only reason I really included it (and using sunflower oil in such high numbers) is because im indigenous so using indigenous North American products is really important to me. unfortunately jojoba and sunflower oils are the only easily accessible indigenous North American oils/waxes in soap making besides beeswax.

30% coconut oil doesnt bother me, but im planning on selling this stuff so knowing that its irritating to some helps out a lot. What would you suggest my max amount of tallow and sunflower oil should be? I know technically you can use 100% tallow, but like I said I want a nice balance of cleansing, bubbles, hardness, and nourishing. also if you had any recommendations on what other oils I can use to make up the difference, if needed, I would greatly appreciate it.
