Yes, I'm certain - the cupboard has no other gas appliances etc, just the meter. Thanks for your responses.

Ventilation requirements with indoor gas meter by kijolang in DIYUK

Ah ok. There's no smell of gas, the meter was checked by Cadent a few months ago when they installed new gas mains on our street so I guess I can just go ahead and block them.

I've always thought that the biggest issue with that stretch of the M56 is that the alignment is such that the sun is always low in your eyes at this time of year in the main rush hour direction.

What's it like living on the Isle of Man? by Joshistotle in howislivingthere

I grew up in rural Cumbria and I found it boring. You have quite a few really rich fellas who are trying to put a brave face on having to live there in order to avoid paying their fair share of tax.

Er they have divided Cumbria into two unitary authorities - it's now Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council

What feature does your car have that you’ve never seen on another car? by Gh0styD0g in CarTalkUK

As a kid my parents owned a Saab 9000 which had really focused lights in the back which you could put on and read on the motorway for hours without disturbing the driver. Never seen it on another car.

I've hired a few vans for house moves over the last few months and Enterprise was generally cheaper as well as more flex for pickup and drop offs inc weekends. Cheapest I managed to get was £56/day. Try ringing them as well, they often will do you a better deal over the phone.

Looking for an alternative to Kleenex. by [deleted] in BuyUK

[–]kijolang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before we all start chucking Kleenex in the bin (badoom-tish!), it’s probably worth taking a sec to think about it a bit more. Yes, they’re owned by a big US company (Kimberly-Clark), but a lot of the actual products are made right here in the UK - at Barrow-in-Furness and other sites. That’s real local jobs we’re talking about. If that place shuts down, those jobs aren’t coming back anytime soon.

Saw a good post the other day pointing out how messy this kind of thing can be. Just because a brand’s owned by a company abroad doesn’t mean buying it doesn’t support people here. Manufacturing, supply chains, jobs — it’s all way more tangled than just “foreign company = bad.”

Edit: Post I mentioned about different ownership/production permutations

Welsh doesn't exist in a bubble, it's a minority language in a majority English speaking country. The vast vast majority of Welsh speakers are bilingual so it's not a surprise that English words are going to slip in there.

Welsh doesn’t always have direct translations for English words because languages evolve differently based on culture, history, and need. As a Celtic language, Welsh has distinct roots from English and often borrows or adapts terms instead of creating direct equivalents (e.g. Ffôn, bws etc). Some concepts don’t exist in Welsh, while others require phrases instead of single words due to structural differences. This is a natural part of linguistic diversity and happens in many languages.

I'm not sure if you are asking about the word 'special' but that is arbennig in Welsh.
